Today's Commentary --- CONFIRMED: Steele "dossier" plot -- Comment of the day -- Asking for a friend -- The West Hollywood Walk Of LAME -- Democrat plans leaked -- RIP Paul Laxalt -- Evening Edition - Daily Verse
As recently noted, the purpose of both the FBI investigation and the special counsel probe always was and still is to GET RID OF TRUMP. Now, it turns out that everything we’ve suspected about the anti-Trump connections between FBI investigators and top Obama DOJ officials such as deputy Attorney General Sally Yates and former associate deputy AG Bruce Ohr –- married to Nellie Ohr, who worked for Fusion GPS, who hired (through Hillary Clinton, the DNC and law firm Perkins Coie) the anti-Trump British ex-spy Christopher Steele to write the unsubstantiated “dossier” –- has just been shown to be true. The story emerges in hundreds of previously unreported emails and memos that show Ohr’s close association with those who were clearly out to get Trump, both inside the government (the FBI and Obama’s DOJ) and outside (Hillary and the DNC).
These documents show a friendly relationship among people who met often. Notably, Ohr and Steele met at the Mayflower Hotel on July 30, 2016, the very day before FBI counterintelligence official Peter Strzok opened the FBI investigation into “Russia” and Trump.
Comment of the day
By Mike Huckabee
From David Berry on 8/7, in response to “If they don’t get rid of Trump, it’s all for nothing”: “You are gifted with the art of clarification. I really hope Pres Trump reads and heeds your wise counsels. Much thanks.”
I pass this along not just because of the compliment (thanks!), but because I really do hope the President is reading my commentaries on this matter. His lawyers will advise him, of course, but in the end, the decisions are his to make. I wonder what it would take to get THE HUCKABEE REPORT delivered to him every morning, right along with the President’s Daily Schedule.
If President Trump is indeed reading this, here’s what I respectfully say to him:
1. DO NOT SIT DOWN WITH ROBERT MUELLER.
2. KEEP DOING WHAT YOU’RE DOING TO MAKE THE ECONOMY ROAR, FIX BORDER PROBLEMS AND WIN NEGOTIATIONS AROUND THE WORLD.
3. DO NOT TWEET. SERIOUSLY, JUST DO NOT DO IT.
4. DO NOT SIT DOWN WITH ROBERT MUELLER.
Thanks for reading, David. And let’s hope the President is reading, too!
Asking for a friend

How come it’s so important to liberals to keep religion out of politics if it involves Conservative Christians but when a Muslim woman wins a race in MI the biggest thing they tout is that she is a Muslim immigrant from Palestine? Asking for a friend.
The West Hollywood Walk Of LAME
By Mike Huckabee
Warning: this story is so dumb you might not believe it until you see it’s from California.
The West Hollywood City Council has unanimously resolved to ask the Hollywood Chamber Of Commerce to remove the Donald Trump star from the Hollywood Walk Of Fame –- not, they insist, because of the recurring vandalism but because of “his disturbing treatment of women and other actions that do not meet the shared values of the city of West Hollywood, the region, state and country.”
Never mind that the Hollywood Walk Of Fame isn’t even in West Hollywood. (If it were, it would likely be called the WEST Hollywood Walk Of Fame, duh.) It’s in Hollywood, which is part of Los Angeles.
“Earning a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame is an honor,” said West Hollywood Mayor John Duran. “When one battles and attacks minorities, immigrants, Muslims, people with disabilities or women, the honor no longer exists.” Never mind that the President has not attacked minorities or immigrants, only illegal immigrants and others who have broken the law; that he has nothing against Muslims per se, only Muslim terrorists and supporters of terrorism; that the alleged incident of Trump making fun of a disabled man was debunked; and that as President, he’s hired more women to high positions than any previous President and has behaved in a professional manner. (You can be sure we would have heard if he hadn’t.) I can think of a few former Presidents who fail spectacularly to meet that standard.
(Also worth noting, as Mayor Duran lays his claim to West Hollywood as America’s beacon of morality: last May, shortly after he declared “Stormy Daniels Day” and gave a porn star the key to the city, it was revealed that he’d cost taxpayers $500,000 in legal settlements to hush up a male aide who accused him of sexual harassment when he was a councilman.)
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the staff report for the Trump star resolution includes “numerous reasons for the matter, including the separation of children from their parents at the border, the denial of impacts of climate change on the world, Trump’s treatment of transgendered individuals and the denial of findings from the intelligence community of Russian interference in the 2016 election, among others.”
So, although the mayor denies it, they obviously want to remove the star for political reasons. Never mind that children being separated from their parents –- or other custodial adults who may have been traffickers –- happened under Obama, that manmade “climate change” is a highly-politicized theory, that transgendered individuals possess the same rights as non-transgendered individuals, and that the intelligence community has gone far beyond its purported mandate of investigating Russian interference.
As for “disturbing treatment of women,” it’s easy to go to Wikipedia and see the list of everyone who has a star on the Hollywood Hall Of Fame. Know who has one? Bill Cosby. Know who else has one? Virtually every huge star, going back to the silent days, who established a reputation for going through Hollywood starlets (and young male actors) like Kleenex. Industry insiders and historians more familiar than I with all the Hollywood “casting couch” stories could certainly find numerous producers and directors on that list who did the same. Even so, the Walk Of Fame has never had a star removed; Cosby, Kevin Spacey, Michael Jackson, even Hugh Hefner (!) and others remain enshrined there because it’s a registered historic landmark --- and should remain so. It honors people who made a big mark in show business, like Donald Trump, who was the star of one of NBC’s hottest shows for years.
The Walk itself doesn’t have a pristine history. Though it’s currently in pretty nice shape, there were seedier decades in which it was nothing to be proud of. Tourists would go there thinking it was going to be glamorous but would encounter trash, syringes, and dispensers of the worst pornography, including shocking child porn. In some ways it was as rough as certain streets in San Francisco and (increasingly, since Democrats took the Mayor’s office back) Manhattan are today. But I digress. At least we should credit Hollywood with cleaning THAT up.
For the Donald Trump star, it’s just been one indignity after another since he ran for President. It’s been demolished with a pickaxe (twice), urinated on and sledgehammered. It’s been disrespected with various forms of performance art. It’s no doubt been stomped on and spit on thousands of times over the past few years. It’s seen vandalism worthy of the seedier days endured by the Walk Of Fame, and that makes me think that even with the #MeToo movement, Hollywood’s trashy, sexist past is still very much alive, masked by political correctness in an act worthy of an Academy Award.
Democrat plans leaked
By Mike Huckabee
All you young Americans who were raised on Internet free speech but think you’re “Democratic” socialists, take a gander at this: some Senate Democrats seem to think the government needs to take over the Internet, monitor what you do there and tell you what you are and aren’t allowed to say. Big government still sound better than free market capitalism?
RIP Paul Laxalt
By Mike Huckabee
My condolences also to the family of conservative elder statesman Paul Laxalt, who has died in Virginia at 96. I’d urge you to click on the link and read his full obituary, which is one of the great American rise-from-humble-beginnings stories of all time. In his memoir, “Sweet Promised Land,” Laxalt told of his father, a Basque who left the Pyrenees in 1906 to herd sheep in the American West. After surviving horrific combat in the Philippines in World War II, Laxalt went to law school, then into politics, eventually becoming a US Senator, Governor of Nevada and trusted adviser to President Reagan. As he said, "Not bad for a Basque sheepherder's kid."
Laxalt even ran for President himself in 1987, an experience he later described as “the four most miserable months of my life.” But if you want to know all the inside dirt, sorry: he was too much of a gentlemen ever to cash in by writing a tell-all book. There aren’t many like him in politics today, sadly for us all.
