Our Daily Verse...

--------------------------

With all the news regarding investigations on both sides of the aisle, it’s hard to know where to start today. But let’s kick off with the idiocy that was the John Dean testimony before Jerry Nadler’s House Judiciary Committee, just to get it out of the way. The afternoon hearing, which Democrats actually called “Lessons From the Mueller Report,” got pre-empted on live TV by Monday’s helicopter crash in Manhattan –- which, sadly, killed the pilot and jolted the city that suffered through 9/11 –- but CNN and MSNBC will surely do what they can to milk Dean’s testimony for all it’s worth in the days ahead, using strategically edited clips to try to make this dumb hearing look like “Watergate II.”

They should just let this embarrassment drop, but they’ll likely produce hour-long specials as well to run over the weekend, conveniently leaving out sharp questioning by Republicans on the committee such as Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, who devastated Dean as a witness and made it clear we know exactly what this is all about. That is to say, Democrats are trying to have it both ways --- they’re impeaching the President, but they aren’t, but they are! But they aren’t. Are. Aren’t. And Gaetz called him what he was: “a prop.”

FEATURED STORIES

What a new law in Maine says about the motives of the pro-abortion crowd

By Mike Huckabee

As the media go ape over every state law that restricts abortion, they are noticeably quiet about new laws in blue states that loosen abortion restrictions to the point of endangering women’s health.  Like this new law, just signed by the Governor of Maine.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/maine-pro-choice-abortion-non-doctors

This one allows abortions to be performed by people who aren’t even doctors, such as nurse practitioners, physician assistants and certified nurse-midwives. If this is the direction that the pro-abortion lobby wants to go, then could we at least drop the charade that they defend abortion rights in the name of “protecting women’s health”?

Allowing infanticide on a post-birth baby is not “protecting the mother’s health,” and letting people who aren’t even doctors perform potentially dangerous surgical procedures on women is not “protecting women’s health.”  Such practices are either irrelevant or downright detrimental to the pregnant woman’s health.  They serve one purpose only: promoting the widespread normalization of the killing of children, either in or out of the womb, in order to exalt the value of convenience over human life.

Please stop insulting our intelligence by claiming you’re protecting “women’s health” when you’re legalizing letting people who aren't even doctors perform surgery on women.

Ginsburg praises Kavanaugh

By Mike Huckabee

For the first time in history, female law clerks for the Supreme Court outnumber male clerks.  That’s because the newest Justice, Brett Kavanaugh, kept his promise to encourage women in law by hiring only female clerks.  That earned him praise from, of all people, liberal icon Ruth Bader Ginsberg – who, as Deanna Fisher at the Victory Girls blog notes, could have hired female clerks herself at any time over her career on the court, but didn’t.

Personally, I think you could argue either way that this is a great step forward for women or discrimination against men.  But one thing that’s indisputable is that it’s hypocritical to celebrate it as a long-overdue victory for women when you could have remedied it yourself at any point in the past 26 years.

House Democrats walk away from the cliff

By Mike Huckabee

Monday, House Democrats suddenly ended their push for a $4500 raise.  They say Congressional salaries have been frozen at $174,000 since 2009, so they’re overdue for this much-needed cost-of-living adjustment.  I’m sure that blue collar workers nationwide are playing tiny violins for them.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/dems-lawmakers-pay-increase-contempt-votes-funding

The push was killed by Democrats in swing districts who realized that giving Congress critters a raise right now would rank in popularity right up there with giving the Boston Marathon bomber voting rights (another bright idea of certain Democratic leaders.)  Most Americans who work their tails off to make a median household income of less than $60,000 probably think Congress members are already overpaid, especially considering the fact that the current House Dems haven’t accomplished anything other than attacking Trump.  It would be like having an office full of useless middle managers who do nothing all day but scheme to get the boss fired, and they think they deserve a raise.

Interestingly, one member still defending the pay raise is that scourge of rich capitalists, “Democratic” socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.  She insisted that “It’s not even like a raise,” it’s just a cost-of-living adjustment, and she compared it to her push for a $15-an-hour minimum wage.

Okay, I’ll surprise her by agreeing with her.  I am willing to pay House Democrats $15 an hour.  But like other minimum wage workers who are paid only for the hours when they actually do some work, so far, that would total up to an annual salary of…zero.

"Compassion" in California

By Mike Huckabee

It’s bad enough that California taxpayers have to worry about getting stuck by discarded drug needles.  Now, Gov. Gavin Newsom and Democrats in the state legislature want to stick them with the cost of having California become the first state to provide free government health care to tens of thousands of illegal immigrants.  Under the deal (which has yet to pass, but undoubtedly will), illegal residents age 19 to 25 would be allowed to enroll in Medi-Cal, the state’s version of Medicaid.

The cost is estimated at $98 million.  But if I were a betting man, I’d bet the farm that it will be far more than that, with far more demand for care than anticipated, far more illegal residents claiming to be in the eligible age group than estimated, and free health care proving to be a giant magnet to attract more illegal immigrants who will come pouring in.

Other news you might have missed...

In what was taken as a back-handed slap at socialist media darling Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently said that in some districts in New York, a glass of water with a (D) after its name could get elected.

In that case, one has to wonder why AOC would be so afraid of a debate invitation from a Republican capitalist challenger for her seat that she reportedly turned into running water?

There are certain times when politics should be set aside, and this is one of those times.  It was announced that Hillary Clinton’s youngest brother, Tony Rodham, died Friday at 71.  He is survived by his wife and three children.  My staff and I extend our sincere condolences and prayers to all his family members on the tragic loss of their husband, father and brother.

One of the compendium of Democratic Presidential candidates who hasn’t even reached the “blip” level in the polls has apparently decided that the key to getting attention is to say something stupider that any of them has said yet.  Granted, that’s not easy, but I’d say that comparing the use of taxpayer money for abortions to paying our troops ranks as a darn good attempt.

This is a very interesting story by Christopher Ruddy, recounting what his driver in Great Britain, who had once worked for Donald Trump in the US, had to say about his former boss.  Spoiler alert: he liked him, and he recalled that the other lower-level staffers liked him, too. You can read why at the link.

https://www.newsmax.com/ruddy/london-donald-trump-visit-christopher-ruddy/2019/06/09/id/919559/

This doesn’t surprise me at all.  As I recounted recently on my TV show, when I was campaigning with Trump in 2016 and we stopped at his Florida resort Doral, I noticed that he immediately went around and talked to everyone in the lobby, calling them by first name like old friends, from the desk clerk to the guy vacuuming the carpet.  I’ve often said that if Trump intends to be a Mueller-obstructing, press-censoring dictator, then he sure is lousy at it. In the same way, if he’s an arrogant, greedy billionaire who doesn’t really care about working people, as the left claims, then he has a very strange way of showing it.

It's said that character is what you reveal by the way you act when you think nobody’s looking.  Ask any of the military guards who had to protect Hillary Clinton how she treated them behind the walls of the White House, and compare that to how Trump treats his guards or the hired help at his hotels and resorts, including long before he ever went into politics. Then tell me which one really cares about the working class and which one epitomizes the old saying about hypocritical aristocrats: that they “weep for the masses while kicking the dog.”
