Friday, in one of the most outrageous and infuriating decisions yet out of a California court (and that’s really saying something), a state appeals court threw out the one and only conviction against Jose Garcia-Zarate, who fired the gun that killed Kate Steinle on San Francisco’s Pier 14.
Garcia-Zarate was an illegal immigrant with seven felony convictions who had been deported six times, but because of San Francisco’s “sanctuary city” policies, the police refused to hold him for ICE to pick up and let him out onto the street. Despite him admitting that he handled the gun that killed Kate Steinle (he claimed it went off accidentally), a California jury refused to convict him of first- or second-degree murder or even manslaughter. Instead, they convicted him on only one charge of illegal weapons possession.
And now, the appeals court has thrown out even that minor conviction on a technicality, ruling that the original judge “apparently did not instruct the jury to consider whether Garcia-Zarate may have been unaware that he was even holding a gun when it ‘just went off.’”
There are a lot of things I could say about the sheer insanity of California’s law, and how its officials seem to be fixated on protecting illegal alien criminals while not caring in the least about the citizens they prey on. But Harmeet K. Dhillon at Fox News has already done a great job of saying it. So I hope you will click on the link to read it, and then join me in saying a prayer for comfort for Kate Steinle’s family who have been cruelly denied justice and for a return of sanity to California, if it’s not too late.

I recently wrote about how the pro-gun control movement might be more convincing if its proponents would stop proving they know nothing about guns every time they open their mouths.
On Saturday in Odessa, Texas, a man who had just been fired from his job and who had a history of being violent and aggressive and frightening his neighbors (and had previously failed a gun buyer background check), went on a shooting spree after being stopped by the police. He killed seven people and wounded 25 more.
But before anyone could even say a prayer for them, some politicians were already trying to exploit their deaths to promote their agendas, chief among them, of course, being “Beto” O’Rourke, who has made ranting the F-word about guns into his Presidential election strategy. I suspect he repeats the F-word so many times because whenever he uses other words, he reveals that he knows nothing about this subject.
For instance, he declared that if elected, he would institute a mandatory “buyback” of all “assault weapons.” This glosses over the fact that the President doesn’t have that power, or the money, and the government can’t “buy back” what it never owned: those guns are the owners’ personal property. He also declared that he would confiscate all “semi-automatic firearms,” which would not only be unconstitutional, but as I’ve pointed out before, it would mean confiscating virtually every gun made since the late 1800s.

But even that pales in ignorance compared to Joe Biden’s proclamation that if elected, he would ban “magazines that can hold multiple bullets in them.”
Since a magazine is a piece of equipment that holds multiple bullets, this apparently means he would only allow magazines that hold one bullet. We could call them “Barney Fife Magazines.”
I’m more than willing to listen to any proposal that would actually help prevent mass shootings, but if you want to be taken seriously, then please do some research first so you don’t sound like everything you know about guns you learned from MAD magazine.

What does it mean when you see TV news commentators become very agitated about an unsourced and already-denied claim that President Trump asked if a nuclear bomb could be used to disrupt a hurricane over the ocean, and then claim that it’s proof he’s racist, even though no minorities live in the middle of the ocean and hurricanes have no race? It means that either you are having hallucinations, or you’re watching CNN.

Elizabeth Warren bashed the “obscene” practice of profiting off college students, but failed to mention that she wrote a textbook that sells for $258.97. Extra helping of irony: it’s a textbook called “The Law of Debtors and Creditors.” Lesson one: Buy this book, and you will be the former.
