Evening Edition - January 17

As for the GAO claiming that Trump violated the law by withholding funds from Ukraine to advance his personal policy agenda (funds that were delivered within Congressional deadline, and that Ukraine wasn’t even aware were on hold), that has more holes than a truckload of Swiss cheese.

https://canadafreepress.com/article/no-deadline-existed-in-trumps-brief-delay-of-ukraine-funds

The GAO is under the oversight of Congress and led by an Obama appointee. The Office of Management and Budget, which is under the executive branch, disagrees with the GAO’s opinion, which seems to be based on the GAO's psychic ability to divine Trump’s motives as other than what he’s publicly stated and what he said in his call to the Ukrainian President.  That was to insure that American tax money wasn’t being given to corrupt politicians who would steal it – which is his responsibility under a treaty with Ukraine signed by Bill Clinton in 1998.

https://www.lenconnect.com/news/20191027/letter-trump-was-lawful-when-unearthing-ukraine-corruption

Here’s a little history of the law Trump allegedly broke; and how the law or the idea behind it was opposed by Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, JFK, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

https://warroom.org/jfk-clinton-and-obama-wanted-impoundment-control/

Incidentally, the GAO found that Obama broke the law in the same way on more than one occasion, but the Democrats made zero calls for his impeachment over it.

https://pjmedia.com/trending/the-gao-ruled-obama-broke-the-law-but-no-one-called-for-his-impeachment/

When you take all of this – the “impeachment articles” that cite made-up, non-impeachable offenses (“obstruction of Congress”) based on third-hand hearsay contradicted by facts; handwritten scratch-pad notes passed off as documentary evidence; the GAO and others claiming their disagreement with how the President uses executive power is proof of illegality; laughably unsupported claims from a dodgy source on a discredited partisan cable show – and add it all up, what does it amount to?

It strikes me as a perfect illustration of a well-known logical fallacy: that if you have a weak and unconvincing argument, bolstering it with more weak and unconvincing arguments will somehow make it more believable just from the sheer quantity of weak and circumstantial evidence.

It’s nothing new in politics, although it does take it further than ever before. Back in 1990, there was a patently ridiculous claim that George Bush flew to Paris in 1980 to secretly meet with Iranians to convince them to hold the hostages until the election to help Reagan defeat Jimmy Carter – you know, because Iran really wanted to deal with Reagan instead of Carter. Then-Democratic House Speaker Tom Foley gave a famous quote that’s since apparently become the motto of his Party:

"Even though there is no evidence, the seriousness of the charge is what matters. The seriousness of the charge mandates that we investigate this."

Well, to quote Yogi Berra, “It’s déjà vu all over again.”

Victor Davis Hanson at National Review gives us a chilling look at what our political world will be like from now on, not because (as we’re constantly told) Donald Trump is a danger to our Constitution, but because his political opponents are so frenzied with hatred for him that they tossed the Constitution, the law and over two centuries of American democratic traditions and practices into a wood chipper.

For those who would read this and scoff that this bleak, post-Constitutional future can’t possibly happen, please note that everything he describes has already happened and is continuing to worsen even as I type this.

Meanwhile, back in Realityville…On Thursday, the Senate voted overwhelmingly to approve the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement to replace NAFTA. Among its provisions: prohibiting currency manipulation, protecting intellectual property rights, requiring that 75% of parts in cars assembled in member countries be made in North America, and opening up more of Canada’s agricultural market to US farmers.

Only 10 Senators voted against it, nine of them Democrats, including Bernie Sanders, who opposed it because it doesn’t address climate change – a priority that Iowans might remember as they gather for the Democratic Caucuses.

Thursday was National Religious Freedom Day.  President Trump observed it with an Oval Office ceremony in which he signed an executive order protecting the right of individuals to pray in schools and rolling back federal regulations that discriminate against people of faith.  He was surrounded by Christian, Jewish and Muslim students who had all faced discrimination because of their religious beliefs.

https://www.christianpost.com/news/trump-announces-school-prayer-guidance-9-agencies-draft-religious-freedom-rules.html

Trump said, "In public schools around the country, authorities are stopping students and teachers from praying, sharing their faith or following their religious beliefs. It is totally unacceptable. You see it on the football field, you see it so many times where they are stopped from praying. We are doing something to stop that."  He added that "there is a cultural war" and a "totalitarian impulse on the far-left that seeks to punish, restrict and even prohibit religious expression."

Trump also unveiled new proposed rules to protect staffers at medical facilities from being forced to participate in procedures such as abortions and gender reassignment surgeries that conflict with their religious faith. LGBTQ activists claimed that this would endanger the lives of women, gay and transgender people, a claim that defenders of religious freedom dismissed as nonsense.

Here’s more analysis of Trump’s executive order from Focus on the Family’s Jim Daly, about how it actually benefits all Americans by protecting First Amendment rights and reestablishing the principle that all forms of discrimination and intolerance are wrong.

A reminder to our pompous overlords in Washington of just how important they really are to most Americans:  On a taping of “Jeopardy!” the category was “U.S. Representatives.”  The answer: “One-fifty-third of California’s House delegation is this House Intelligence Committee chairman.”  The contestants even got to see his photo.

Not a single one of them recognized Adam Schiff.

https://www.westernjournal.com/adam-schiffs-moment-jeopardy-spotlight-turns-embarrassment/

But really, why should they?  As “Jeopardy!” noted, he’s 1/53rd of the Representatives from just one of 435 Representatives of 50 states, so why should he think he’s more important than the President?  And why should most Americans need to have any idea of who he is?

Incidentally, most Americans also have no idea how lucky they are to have jobs that allow them never to have heard of Adam Schiff or seen his face.

Rand Paul is threatening to teach his fellow Senators a new meaning of the term “nuclear option” if they agree to start calling more witnesses for the impeachment trial.

Arizona Sen. Martha McSally responded to a question from CNN’s Manu Raju with a reply that has the media up in arms, and that I predict will result in a big boost to donations to her reelection campaign.  I detect the welcome, rising influence of Ricky Gervais.

Virginia now has pompous overlords in Richmond. Despite VA HB20, 3012, prohibiting anyone restricting citizen right to carry when government calls a state of emergency Dims are prohibiting citizens 2A rights on grounds of a state of emergency. We need coverage on the violations underway now against VA law abiding citizens experiencing real tyranny this weekend.

Once again, Mike, you've covered topics of dire importance to the people of this great nation. I honestly don't know how our citizens can see any good in what the Democrats are proposing. Keep up the great work and God Bless You! Respectfully, Coco (H. Collette)

GAO shows clearly how oathetic the left is. Someone need to be slapped...hard. maybe it'll wake up the brain. Rand Paul likely NEEDS to give the senate a lesson in the nuclear option. I am sure he is about 200 miles beyond fed up with what has been going on thes last 4-5 months. yes it needs to be used and harshly, that the left will understand.

Mc Sally, simply told the truth and CNN KNOWS it so their ire is laughable. Especially in light of Jeff Zucker's fixation on impeachment. She likely encuornters fake news on a weekly basis and sees CNN clearnly for what they are. Good for her. More GOP need to follow her lead. DT is making it cler that the left is NOT going to limit our religious freedom as Northam wants to do. yeah once he takes away 2nd amendment rights what's next? He needs clear and harsh treatment for who he professes to be. The fact that Mike Bloomberg and Bernie were there is proof enough. GW said very clearly " When government takes away citizen's right to bear arms, it becomes citizen's duty to take away government's right to govern." We need to HEED his words. notice he didn't say how, he said "Take away". Is this what we are left with? Where is the DOJ, the FBI?

    Gov. Huckabee,
It came to me this morning that like the City of Chicago going after repayment from Jussie Smollett for expenses of a fake investigation, why can't the people of this nation demand repayment for the expenses of all the fake investigations against our President? I can see the Clintons, DNC, Obamas, Comey and all the others having their assets seized to repay the expense of their fake investigations. This should be law, whether it be by individuals or government entities, you make false claims -you pay the price. Just wondering about a nationwide petition for just such actions. Your Opinion? Thank you, Governor.

Upon reading your statement about Victor Davis Hanson's "chilling look at what our POLITICAL world will be like from now on" I would like to add that the change in the POLITICAL world does not leave OUR world unscathed because what you state, AFTER you make this statement: "not because (as we’re constantly told) Donald Trump is a danger to our Constitution, but because his political opponents are so FRENZIED WITH HATRED for him THAT THEY TOSSED THE CONSTITUTION, the law and over two centuries of American democratic traditions and practices INTO A WOOD CHOPPER."

I will keep stating that our world....here in the United States...is so "FRENZIED WITH HATRED" that it continues to intensify and pervade more and more of our daily lives ....to the degree that NO PLACE is safe FROM this hatred that expresses itself in gun violence.....that has taken the lives of Americans who were attending church, a concert, were out shopping, stopped at a traffic light...(and the list of what used to be normal safe daily activities that became a blood bath, in these past years, is endless)....Not to mention the kids who were sent to school in the morning and never returned back home because they were shot, and killed, AT school!

YOU EXPRESS THE HEIGHT OF HYPOCRISY WHEN YOU STATE THAT the "frenzied hatred" that AUTHORED the Democrats' UNRIGHTEOUS motive for wanting to impeach their President for having VIOLATED the constitution , IN THE PROCESS, served to toss the very Constitution itself into a wood chopper.....BECAUSE....IN REALITY, their evil UNRIGHTEOUS motive makes a mockery of the very RIGHTEOUS motive that authored the very Constitution itself!......which is WHY...

I have stated, in my previous comments, that even if President Trump WAS guilty of violating the Constitutional "law" , the Democrats would STILL be guilty of a graver violation ( "sin") because, not only are they guilty of violating God's law of love VIA their hatred for their President, but, also, if President Trump WAS guilty of violating Constitutional law, he would only be guilty of violating the Constitution's LETTER of its law, whereas the Democrats would be guilty of violating the Constitution's SPIRIT of its law.....which is WHY....Christians who understand this hypocrisy...FROM God's perspective...MUST start uniting to make their voices heard...because the cry OF their voices...AGAINST this hypocrisy...will, in reality, be HIS cry.....AGAINST this hypocrisy!.. BECAUSE WE CANNOT LET HATRED WIN OVER HIS LOVE....SINCE ONLY HIS LOVE WILL STOP THE BLOODSHED ...of gun violence.....THAT IS BEING AUTHORED BY HATRED!!!!!

Governor Huckabee: The Senate defenders of President Trump must use the law, rely on the law over and over again in their defense of Trump because as you have made evident many times the law is on the side of the President, the law protects the President. It was a disappointment that as good as House republicans were in the impeachment hearings, and they were good, they did not use the law efficiently. Instead, they let Pelosi get away with falsely using the Constitutional over and over as a reason to impeach, a lie and misuse of the Constitution that has brought the country to this disgraceful, stomach wrenching, sham, bogus impeachment. Let us not do this again in the Senate. Governor, please continue to quote the Constitution and the laws that protect our President and his actions.

In regard to the democrats and the impeachment fiasco, after Trump is found not guilty, after witnesses and facts find out about the Biden corruption, and maybe after Trump's reelection, the democrats are going to file another law suit against Trump. Just like they did to Sarah Palin; one unsubstantiated charge after another until they were happy she left the Governor's position. This is the democrats M.O. So, what legal tool can President Trump throw to the dems?

As I was trying to find my AM bank of stations on my car radio (old car, old radio, no light) I was briefly on someone on an FM station who was commenting about the USMCA and said President Trump's first version was "weak on trade." As I was looking USMCA on google, the first entry says--it's not as good as NAFTA. Really. But, further down is an entry that tells why it's better than NAFTA. At least it finally passed, even in the midst of all the pomp and circumstances of marching "the articles" to the Senate.

Regarding religion in schools. I had read reports of mandatory arabic instruction or teachings on the muslim religion in (some) schools. I tried to check this out, but it gets confusing as to the veracity. I know it's not nationwide, but might be in some school districts? It just seems to me that, with all the screaming about prayers at school or school functions, preventing student groups that meet at the school with religion as part of their meetings, that the ACLU and FFRF should be as outraged about teaching about muslim as any other religion.

I realize there are a lot of things I don't know or understand, so maybe I am missing something here. On the subject of the dimwitocrat Senators, or even Pelosi's Tot Parade thinking they have the sole right to call witnesses for this impeachment trial is way beyond my scope of understanding.
The Senate is controlled by Republicans and they should be in control of who is called. IMHO they should call in witnesses who can fill in the huge gaps in the lack of evidence created by Pelosi's circus.
Get It Done. Get It Over. To heck with what any democrat says.

    Mr.Huckabee,
Please note that the lack of ‘first hand info’ about the President’s action is entirely due to the executive privilege being exercised by the President. I realize that this could be addressed in the courts but it should not be cited as if there were no such actions taken. The testimony of John Bolton in the Senate trial would be and should be a vital source of such ‘first hand’ info
