--------------------------

I told you Tuesday about the New York Times reporter who lifted President Trump’s words of context (“Try getting it yourselves”) to make it appear that he told state Governors that they were on their own when it came to obtaining medical equipment to deal with the COVID-19 virus. Here is what he actually said:

“We are backing you in terms of equipment and getting what you need. Also, though, respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment, try getting it yourselves. We will be backing you, but try getting it yourselves. Point-of-sale is much better, much more direct if you can get it yourselves.”

Trump himself seems to be so fed up with the media’s endless attempts to undermine, attack, second-guess, badmouth and misquote everything he’s says and does to keep Americans safe that he used part of his coronavirus update press conference yesterday to call out the Times for its deliberately misleading story, which he quite accurately described as “false,” “bad journalism” and “totally disgraceful.”

FEATURED COMMENTARY

Answer to reader on anti-viral drug research

By Mike Huckabee

After seeing a discussion on Laura Ingraham’s Monday show about existing antiviral drugs such as chloroquine, reader “Dru” wrote to ask me what I thought about the promise of these drugs to treat novel coronavirus. Now, I am not a scientist and don’t even play one on TV, but I can offer you some background. In fact, in yesterday’s Evening Edition, I linked to a story out of Australia about the good results obtained with existing antiviral drugs. Calling this treatment a “cure,” as the headline does, seems premature; however, they are ready to move on to a widespread human trial on what they call “this first wave of patients.” Here it that story if you didn’t see it last night.

https://www.thechronicle.com.au/news/cure-found-for-coronavirus-in-australia/3973564/

Chloroquine is already widely used as an antimalarial drug and an anti-inflammatory agent, and it also has shown anti-viral activity against several other similar viruses, such as Zika. So it would certainly make sense to test it against the novel coronavirus. There’s a lot of misinformation going around online right now –- “Yes, it's a cure!!! No, it’s a scam!!!” –- but here’s a published study that might help put the issue in perspective. It was done in 2009 in response to the SARS epidemic, which showed for the first time that coronaviruses were capable of causing serious respiratory illness.

I wanted to make sure you also read these comments:

Dr. Anthony Fauci, who is fast becoming the voice of the fight against COVID-19, said Tuesday that it may be several weeks before we know how successful the effort to stem the spread has been. He also urged younger people not to assume that because they’re at the lowest risk of suffering too much from contracting the disease that they can ignore the warnings about prevention, because even if they don’t get very sick, they’ll help spread it to people who are at high risk from it.

Dr. Fauci also said there are many things we just still don’t know about how contagious it is or how it spreads, although we are learning more every day. There was a report that one of the first patients in the US, a woman who returned from China with it, was found to have had contact with 372 people before being isolated, and out of all those, the only one who also contracted it was her husband. That’s at least encouraging that it seems unlikely you would catch it from being in the near proximity of a carrier. However, we’re still not certain how it spreads, and in too many cases, it’s spread without detection, so it’s still best to keep up that “social distancing” and stay home if you can.

A lot of people are saying that the world will not be the same after the pandemic scare is over. Some say this will plunge us into a recession or depression, while some on the left think it will help them finally get government-run health care in America.

But in today’s MUST-READ article, Michael Walsh at the Epoch Times predicts that there will actually be some major positive changes that were long overdue, and some of them might surprise you.

Reminder: Many small businesses and entrepreneurs are being hurt by all the coronavirus shutdowns. If you’d like to help your local businesses survive, remember that many of them have online stores where you can purchase products for delivery. Or you can buy gift cards from local businesses and restaurants now and use them once this is over.

Bible Verse of the Day (KJV)

"But they that wait upon the Lord
shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint."

- Isaiah 40:31

    From one retired Health care worker's opinion:
    In response to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the little man with a raspy voice, who has been giving his opinions on the coronavirus outbreak needs to lighten up a bit. He needs to heed what our President and Vice President are dealing with in these news conferences.
    They are trying to give us pertinent information with hope not panic.
    Dr. Fauci in my opinion is a "naysayer" and what we would call a "Debbie-Downer".
    Of course this virus is serious and we should be cautious and take strong precautions to prevent getting it, but come on little man doc.
    Whenever someone else in these conferences points out something positive or lets us know it's not as dire a situation as it can be...he shoots that down quickly.
    I understand he is seeing everything in a negative light because he is a medical scientist and most do not believe in possibilities.
    I have worked with many doctors in my career and for the most part that's the grid they viewed from on every patient and their symptoms.
    The most recent was Dr. Fauci's strong negative protest about possibly using on a trial basis the drug that has been used with good success...Chloroquine.
    I quote from this newsletter: "Chloroquine is already widely used as an antimalarial drug and an anti-inflammatory agent, and it also has shown anti-viral activity against several other similar viruses, such as Zika."
    I don't think I will sit through one more government health crisis update if the little negative man Dr. Fauci is speaking.
    At the very least, I will mute him.
    God is in control, Dr. Fauci is not.

    Good morning, Gov. Huckabee, There is something people need to know about the Wuhan virus and the city of Wuhan. On a recent prayer podcast from Intercessors for America and Secure America Now, they informed us that the city of Wuhan has been manufacturing vaccines using ABORTED BABY PARTS! They told of an aborted baby girl whose lungs were used to create vaccines, emphasizing that it's no coincidence that an innocent baby's lungs were used, and from the same city comes a horrible disease that attacks peoples' lungs! The Bible repeatedly describes God's judgment against nations and peoples who shed innocent blood. Psalm 106:37-43 says, "They even sacrificed their sons and daughters to demons and shed innocent blood.. and the land was polluted/desecrated with the blood..." Would you consider reporting this in your newsletter and encouraging people to pray, repenting of allowing this holocaust for all these years, crying out for God's mercy and becoming more united and strong in fighting to stop abortion worldwide? If we would pray, unite and act, there is a lot we can do. We have all been too complacent. More verses about shedding innocent blood: Exod 23:7, Ps 94:21, Prov 6:16-19, Rev 6:20 to name a few. Please consider sharing this info also with our President. Thank you! I would love to hear your comments on this.

    Michael Walsh's article. I take exception to his use of the word "Opportunistically" in this quote from his article: "Whether it turns out to be the dire event some fear, or just a bad sort of virus that opportunistically kills the elderly and those with compromised immune systems". It makes it seem that he is saying the world would be better off if all the elderly people died!

    I just shopped at my local “Three Bears Alaska” grocery and general merchandise store this morning. They are having special hours (7 to 9am Monday through Friday) for senior citizens. They even have a person at the entrance to check ID if deemed necessary. Great Alaska style attitude and practical attitude.

    Governor,
    Please let your readers know that in July 2009 the WHO announced a level 6 warning, its highest level, for influenza type A (H1N1). Nearly 100MM US residents contracted that virus. Hundreds of schools closed and a struggling economy suffered another hit.

    According to the World Population Clock, as of the year 2020, there are 7.8 billion people on this planet. According to the statistics on the corona virus cases, there are 200,000 people worldwide who have it.

    Just curious, does a state (governor) or the federal government (president, etc) have the authority or power to order private businesses to close? Does it simply require declaring a "state of emergency"?

    Mike: I get so frustrated when one of my Democrat friends keeps saying that Pres. Trump is not doing enough. Today that person said to me "A few weeks ago, Trump said all this was a hoax." I wonder if this is true. I doubt it, but what recourse do we have. Gov. Cuoumo aggregate the you know what out of me when he says the Federal Govt is not doing enough. If the President took over everything; mandated closings, isolation, etc, etc., I am sure these Dems would soon be saying he is a dictator. Are we ever going to win???? Thx for letting me erupt.
