The investigation into the mass shooting in Las Vegas has so far produced mostly frustration and confusion, complete with shifting timelines and still no clear motivation for shooter Stephen Paddock’s heinous actions. But as long as we are still stuck in speculation mode, here’s a viewpoint that we haven’t heard.
A Christian author who grew up in Las Vegas says that Paddock’s reported life of isolation and disconnection sounds eerily similar to other people she saw all too often in Las Vegas: not the happy vacationers who leave in a week, but the ones who live there and become immersed in a 24/7 atmosphere of gambling, sin, desperation, despair and spiritual emptiness. They are the ones who’ve given Vegas the highest suicide rate in America. Even if we learn Paddock did have other motivations, this is worth reading because there are still too many lonely and desperate people like him who need help before it’s too late.
