In the calm before the storm that is the release of the Mueller report (at this writing, we’re still waiting), it’s been interesting to compare and contrast various media reports and musings. A relatively straightforward news account from THE WALL STREET JOURNAL ends with this:

“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) has made clear that barring a bombshell revelation in the Mueller report, she doesn’t expect her caucus to launch impeachment proceedings. ‘Impeachment is divisive for the country,’ Mrs. Pelosi said in an interview last week. ‘I set a very high bar to cross that threshold because, really, people want us to address their financial securities or insecurities, and that’s our responsibility.’"

Setting aside the question of whether we want the Democrats in Congress addressing anything about our financial lives (short answer: OH DEAR, NO!), let’s contrast this passage with the ending of a REUTERS piece (thankfully identified up front as “Analysis,” but still) on the same subject:

With gratitude,

Tax Day

By Mike Huckabee

Reminder: Today is April 15th, income tax deadline day.  Before you fall for the lie that you’re paying more under Trump and that only millionaires and billionaires and “trillionaires” (yes, Bernie Sanders thinks there are such things) got a tax cut, here are a few facts about the new tax law that should cheer you up.

Meanwhile, if you put it off till the last minute and are still running around getting those forms filled out and mailed, then here are some tips to help, plus some Tax Day discount deals from some of your favorite restaurants.  Think of it as taking depreciation on your waistline.

Story correction

By Mike Huckabee

Correction to a story from last week: the substance that a loud leftist protester squirted at conservative speaker Michael Knowles at the University of Missouri-Kansas City was not bleach, as first reported.  It’s assumed that the assailant must have known that a bleach attack would be a serious violation, so the substance used was a mixture of lavender oil and other nontoxic household liquids meant to resemble bleach.  He’s still facing charges, though, which is good.

Also, good for the college for taking free speech seriously and providing security officers who did their job.  It’s a shame they had to ruin it by issuing a statement condemning violent, censorious protesters that spent more time attacking the speaker for his conservative beliefs than it did condemning violent, censorious protesters.

Those pesky, totally nonpartisan Internet algorithms!  What mischief will they think up next?

On Google, people searching for the new movie “Unplanned” were surprised to see that it had been officially classified as “Drama/Propaganda.”  A few searches revealed that Michael Moore movies that offer a one-sided, far-left interpretation of what George W. Bush, Donald Trump or the NRA think were classified as “Documentaries.”  But a movie about what happens inside a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic, as told by a woman who managed one for eight years and was named PP’s “Employee of the Year,” is “Propaganda.”

After getting complaints, Google removed the “propaganda” label and offered an explanation that, naturally, had nothing to do with the particular viewpoint expressed in the film -- just as the tech snafus on Twitter that blocked the film’s account and erased its followers were also purely random algorithmic bugaboos.

You know, that would be easier to swallow if those random glitches ever negatively impacted anyone or anything on the left.  But currently, the rate at which they impact conservative messages looks about as random as flipping a coin 5,000 times and each time having it land on its edge.

A Salon thing

By Mike Huckabee

I already wrote about the spectrum of bias in press coverage of the Mueller report.  But of course, that’s hardly the only story for which you have to “consider the source” before believing it.

For instance, a story about the Administration’s environmental policies appeared in (which I would never mistake for a legitimate, unbiased news source) with a provocative headline claiming that a Trump official declared that “Science is a Democrat thing.”  It’s such a load of garbage (complete with quotes from a group that poses as a nonpartisan pro-science organization but isn’t) that I’m not going to increase their click count by linking to it.  But here’s a sample:

“Rep. Alan Lowenthal, D-Calif., citing the inspector general's report into the matter, said that a Trump appointee named Landon ‘Tucker’ Davis had offered a likelier explanation for why a study that was more than halfway done was abruptly shut down: In Davis' words, ‘Science was a Democrat thing.’"

Salon didn’t bother to explain what position of influence Davis might hold, or why they would not only use such a questionable quote from a partisan, third-hand source, but treat it as headline news.  There was a link in that paragraph that readers who didn’t follow it might assume points to more information verifying the quote.  Instead, it was a link to a typically dry letter from a deputy inspector general, saying that Trump officials explained that the study was canceled because after spending more than half of the million-dollar-plus budget, they felt it hadn’t produced results that were likely to justify further costs. The “Science is a Democrat thing” quote didn’t appear in it at all.

So I guess “journalism” isn’t a Salon thing.

I also think that after hearing that people can change genders just by deciding to, that there’s no biological difference between men and women, and that fetuses only become babies 15 to 20 minutes after they’re born, we can agree that science isn’t a Democrat thing, either.

Instead of linking to Salon, I think I’ll link you to this article by a science writer who is hardly a Trump supporter, but who is honest enough to realize what damage is done by partisan “journalists” who claim that Trump is “at war with science,” when that’s not true and it misleads the public.  There are some areas in which Trump has increased funding, and others in which cutbacks are just part of a general reduction in non-defense spending and staffing.  Meanwhile, Obama defunded science projects and suppressed access to scientific information, and the press painted him as a champion of science.

But then, truth just isn’t a modern journalism thing.

A round-up of offensive idiocy

By Mike Huckabee

I try not to fall into the trap of commenting on every outrageous thing said or tweeted by Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, the Moe, Larry and Curly of leftism.  But since I do want to help keep you informed, here’s the latest round-up of offensive idiocy, just from the past 48 hours…

I think this stuff is so self-evidently outrageous, offensive and beneath contempt that I will show restraint and make just two observations:

1.  Friday, the Democratic House majority celebrated their 100th day in office by hobnobbing with liberal celebrities at a posh retreat in Virginia, having passed no legislation to help Americans in general.  But between the three newbies mentioned above and veterans such as Adam “Russian collusion is real!” Schiff, Jerry “Subpoena everyone while slandering Candace Owens” Nadler and Maxine “Didn’t know the government took over student loans in 2010” Waters, their signature accomplishment has been to prove that having the IQ of a house plant is no longer an impediment to serving in the United States Congress.

2.  You may be numbed to this level of offensive and defensive stupidity by 2020, but it’s never too early to mark your calendars for Election Day of that year, as a reminder to take time off work and go stand in line to correct the Great Mistake of 2018.

Quotes from American History

"I have always done my duty. I am ready to die. My only regret is for the friends I leave behind me."

- Zachary Taylor

Democrats in denial

By Mike Huckabee

The same liberal politicians and media figures who told us Trump was crazy when he said he’d win the Presidential race (he did), and that he was crazy when he said Trump Tower was wiretapped (it was), and that he was lying about not colluding with Russia (he didn’t) are now claiming that Attorney General Barr is crazy for saying it’s possible that “spying did occur” on the Trump campaign during the 2016 election.

I’ve written about the hysterical “methinks they doth protest too much” responses from several anti-Trump stalwarts such as Chuck Schumer, Jerry Nadler and James Clapper elsewhere today, but here’s a late entry into the Denial Sweepstakes:

Sleazy lawyer Michael Avenatti

By Mike Huckabee

Michael Avenatti might not have liked it when I began routinely identifying him as “sleazy lawyer Michael Avenatti,” but it now appears that I may owe an apology…to sleazy lawyers.  I don’t want them to sue me for defamation for associating them with Michael Avenatti.

Even with the herculean effort required to grant him a presumption of innocence, it’s getting harder with each passing day to keep a straight face when he claims he’s a victim of politicized prosecutors out to get him for attacking President Trump.  If so, there must be a lot of Trump-voting prosecutors in unlikely places.  First, Avanatti was indicted in New York for allegedly trying to extort $25 million from Nike.  Then he was indicted in California on wire and bank fraud charges for allegedly misappropriating a client’s legal settlement for himself.

TAX DAY for CONGRESS (Senate and House)
As we listen to the "begging for transparency from podiums" ... A RESOLUTION EASILY PASSED.
WE DEMAND POTUS TRUMP direct the IRS to AUDIT ALL of us.
    (a) all tax returns (previous 7 years) of all Congress and Senate to be audited.
    (b) if tax returns were filed separate (not married joint), the spouse will also be audited.
... Adult children included (Hunter Biden, Chelsea Clinton, ...)
    (c) all IRS audits will follow approved regulations. Penalties and fines will be assessed, and paid within 10 days.
    (d) all audits allow for the taxpayer to challenge (with tax attorney or other representative) findings.
    (e) all audits will be completed BEFORE the executive branch experiences the same.

Same process for federal appointed judges, including SCOTUS

All current and former appointees, Cabinet, former Presidents and families ...
Then I woke up, still in Babylon West ...

Tax Day 4-15 should be Holiday: NOT for Federal workers save DoD veterans.
USPS, IRS, Treasury remain Open & Congress & Senate.
    Holiday for the Voters nationwide.
Replace Labor Day for 4-15?? or Labor Day in name only.
