Today's Commentary:  Reviewing Hillary's book -- ESPN accused of racism -- China honors Trump request  --Opioid crisis growing -- Comey's reputation -- News Bits

Happy Friday America!

I hate to give HuffPo clicks, and I certainly don’t agree with this author’s opinion of Trump or his political bent in general. But this review of Hillary Clinton’s new book by Sam Kass is undeniably one of the best-written, most insightful and flat-out entertaining book reviews of the year. If Hillary could write like this, she might actually be worth the obscene advances publishers give her.

ESPN accused of racism

By Mike Huckabee

ESPN has discovered what a lot of institutions are learning that have jumped on the PC bandwagon: 1. It drives away your customers. 2. It comes back to bite you because nobody can live up to the impossible standards imposed by the left, including the left.

And so, ESPN now finds itself accused of racism by one of the very conservatives they fired. And you know what? He makes a darn good case. And extra points for the “Harry Potter” reference.

China honors Trump request

By Mike Huckabee

Hey, wait: according to the mainstream media, President Trump is an illegitimate, bombastic buffoon who will never persuade other nations to follow his lead. Apparently, that narrative hasn’t been translated into Chinese yet, because it took all of one hour after Trump imposed new banking sanctions on North Korea before China announced it will honor them.

Wow, it’s almost as if what he’s exhibiting is…leadership. Maybe it’s just been so long since we’ve seen it from an American President at the UN that the media didn’t recognize it.

Opioid crisis growing

By Mike Huckabee

Doctors have been trying to draw attention to the widespread opioid addiction crisis, but it’s hard to get anyone’s attention with so much other news breaking constantly.

But consider this: abuse of opioids, both prescription drugs and illicit drugs like heroin, has now reversed the long rise in US life expectancy by 2.5 months, and they’re killing as many people each year as seventeen 9/11 attacks. Did that get your attention?

Comey's reputation

By Mike Huckabee

Some Senate Democrats are threatening my daughter Sarah with an indictment for stating something about James Comey that’s long been a matter of public record. They claim she’s trying to poison Comey’s reputation with grand jurors. I can see why he might be worried about what grand jurors think of him, but it’s hardly her fault.

I would point out that it’s the things we all already know that Comey has done that have poisoned his own reputation. This isn’t the first time Democrats have tried to make a legal case against Republicans for stating either known facts or an honest personal opinion based on known facts. But then, having lost the House, Senate and White House, one of the few weapons Democrats have left is abuse of the legal system, via overblown ethics charges, lawsuits and partisan judges. That’s why we’re seeing Trump sued over every action he takes. Democrats may have few elected offices, but they have an overabundance of lawyers.

Claiming that it’s somehow scandalous to say Comey might have broken the law by leaking sensitive documents created as part of his duties at the FBI to the media (something he admitted to under oath) is like claiming you’re spreading rumors by calling him “tall.”

It reminds me of JFK’s favorite joke: Did you hear about the Russian who got 25 years in prison for standing in front of the Kremlin and yelling, “Khrushchev is an idiot!?” He got 5 years for insulting Khrushchev and 20 years for revealing state secrets.

News Bits

First Lady Melania Trump spoke at the UN about combating cyberbullying, a topic upon which you’d think liberals would agree with her. But most didn’t hear what she said about cyberbullying because they were too busy saying really nasty things on the Internet about what she was wearing. Do they even know what the word “cyberbullying” means?

I love your daughter, Sarah, Mike. I love watching her. She doesn't take any guff off of anybody and can put people in their place with grace. I admire her for the way she can stand up to the media, and always, she has President Trumps back. She seems to take after her daddy. She says what she means and means what she says. I also love reading your letters, as well. Quick to the point and humoress. You and your wife are so blessed.

Good morning Gov Huckabee. First I want to say how much I admire your daughter. She is not only smart and speaks well, but she is able to put up with the media with grace. Personally, in her place I'd be tempted to bring in a tractor and mow them all down. About the pain pill crisis. I was on them for about 2 yrs. Didn't think I had any way of getting off. But, where I had been against cannabis, I later found out why it has been vilified. The drug companies did that so they could push their chemical pills on us! It's time the feds understood that cannabis is fantastic used medically! Where it hurts young brains, it repairs brains in older people and/or people with serious health problems. The states have figured this out, time for the feds to come in. I know Big Pharma will fight tooth and nail, but it needs to be. You cannot over dose on cannibis. I have recently learned a lot! It started with a really bad shoulder, very painful, that there is no way to fix. I take CBD at night, so now I can sleep, before, I was unable to get to sleep for a long time, and when I finally did drop off, was up again in a couple hours. Which just seemed to make the pain worse as I was tired all the time. And that is minor, cannibis can cure or manage many things. Thanks for listening. I read every word of your newsletter and find them very enlightening and things put in a way that makes them interesting.
