"Compassion" in California

It’s bad enough that California taxpayers have to worry about getting stuck by discarded drug needles.  Now, Gov. Gavin Newsom and Democrats in the state legislature want to stick them with the cost of having California become the first state to provide free government health care to tens of thousands of illegal immigrants.  Under the deal (which has yet to pass, but undoubtedly will), illegal residents age 19 to 25 would be allowed to enroll in Medi-Cal, the state’s version of Medicaid. 

 

The cost is estimated at $98 million.  But if I were a betting man, I’d bet the farm that it will be far more than that, with far more demand for care than anticipated, far more illegal residents claiming to be in the eligible age group than estimated, and free health care proving to be a giant magnet to attract more illegal immigrants who will come pouring in.

And how will this be paid for?  By resurrecting the most onerous aspect of Obamacare, the one the Republican Congress got rid of: the tax on people who don’t have health insurance.  That’s right, if you can’t afford health insurance, the state will take away even more of your money to provide free health insurance to illegal immigrants while you still go without, only you'll have even less money to pay your doctor bills out of pocket.  That’s called “compassion,” California liberal-style.

 

California leftists like to brag that big social movements start in California and move east.  Let’s hope this idea remains quarantined in California along with the typhus, although I imagine it is going to result in even more California taxpayers moving east.

    Mike, since the California people love paying high taxes or high everything there. Can we ask Nancy to pass a bill to build a wall around California so none of the voters can escape and bring their liberal voting records to any, especially GA, of the Republican run states.

    There is not much more can be said from those who made a comment on those clowns destroying Ca. I can say this much, we moved to Ca. in the early 70', and i moved out in the mid. 80'. I did not like living in Ca. then and the more I hear about Good ole Ca. the more happier that i no longer live in that state! If the rest of the country has any sense they would not what to be like Ca. and look at how bad it is in New York!

    That is a bunch of Bull. j They have always given illegal immigrants health care and food stamps and everything else. All they have to do is go to the welfare office and show their birth certificate and no questions asked. I worked in Monterey county and had a friend that worked in the welfare program. She said they weren't allowed to ask if they were here legally. Go figure that idiot makes it seem lilke he is doing somethin great.

    While this is total ridiculousness, I say the rest of the country should just kick back, make the popcorn and watch CA destroy itself as a state and laugh at them when they start begging for bail outs and hand outs. The clowns are running the show out there.

    I was on top of this story and wrote a letter that I haven't sent yet. My friends loved my opening question; Do you understand the word Compassion? I need to rewrite it and was thinking of asking Laura's help. I have one ready for our women senators---Missy Crazy and Missy Fruit loop and Governor Mr. Incapable. However Jennifer Van Laar Deputy Managing editor of Red State wrote an open letter to our Governor on Facebook May 20th 2019 and it is a classic. I agree with her totally and she has saved me some time.

    My husband and I took our 11 year old granddaughter on a visit to Sacramento. As we approached our state capitol building, she said, “Oh what a beautiful building! What do they do here?” Grandpa and I burst out laughing. But seriously folks, let’s not give up on California! There are a whole lot of sane and kind people. But we need more conservatives to move here and help us vote for good things. Remember it is only the drama that makes it onto the news.

    Governor, I had to pay the Obama Care penalty for a number of years. I felt this was stealing my money. During this same time period I could not get insurance because of the cost. I lost my job in 2008 after 34.5 years of service. As I was already 60 years of age -- I could not find another job. I initially signed up for Cobra insurance since I had been let go from my job, but I had to cancel it almost immediately because I could not afford the $900 per month that it was costing me. My wife and I are now over 65 years of age and we are both on Medicare. I feel for people having to pay a penalty for not having insurance because they cannot afford it. I looked at it as though I was paying money out so others could have insurance that I could not have. I felt that I could have used the penalty money toward my own medical expenses. I went without insurance for approximately 8 years, but still had to pay the penalty as well as all medical expenses for my wife and I. Additionally, my wife only recently became eligible for Medicare so there was a number of years where I had to pay the penalty for both of us even though I began receiving Medicare 5 years before she became eligible. I did not receive any relief from the penalty even when I began receiving Medicare. I had to pay the full penalty for both of us even though I was on Medicare five years prior to her eligibility. Needless to say -- I am totally against the penalty in order to give others illegals or anyone else insurance.

    What about 3rd parties, if they don't believe Republicans are good? Just referring to the blue state expats and any other people cited to not vote D. If they can't go to the Republicans, how about Libertarian, Constitution, Conservative if the state has that party, all of which are Republican alternatives or even Reform, which is said to be moderate?

    Mike, can you imagine how the law abiding, hard working taxpayers who have been working and paying extremely high health insurance prices actually feel about this giveaway? Oh, not to mention the legal immigrants who went thru all of the right processes, and never had any "free"
    insurance allowed to them? This is so completely out of control , and so UNFAIR to everyone else. Every day I am mortified, at what is being allowed to happen in our own United States of America. This is not what the majority of Americans believe in.

    I think it's about time for CA to be taken over either by the feds or the military. Insanity rules. the state is now a sewer in LA and SF. It is apparentl democrats can't rule and don't WANT to rule. Maybe a team from Northern CA needs to come in and rule those two hell holes. Liberal insanity is spreading like the diseases they are bringing in the state. I have a cure for the "homeless" but no one would like it. Except maybe those who live in LA and SF permanently

    Governor Huckabee,

    First I want to say thank you for all you do for conservatives! We need more people like you that will speak out.

    I heard the disturbing news about providing free healthcare to illegal aliens 19 to 25 yesterday morning. I knew it was coming and it is all about votes for the Democrat party.

    I was born, raised and still live in California. It is a beautiful state with so many great people but we are run by loons.

    The Republican Party abandon this state years ago and that includes President Trump. I had blind hope he would make a difference here but he's only been here a few times. His regulation cuts and tax bill have made a big difference here but he is not getting any credit here.

    The make-up of this state has changed dramatically in the last 20 years especially in So. California and not for the better.

    Maybe one day the party of two former Presidents from CA will make this state a priority to win here again. It is so long overdue!!!

    Our daughter got married this weekend, so we were not as focused on the news as we usually are. I'm catching up on the columns I missed right now.
    I am INCENSED that these Leftists care far more for ILLEGALS than for their AMERICAN voters. My husband and I talk about this all the time. When did illegal immigrants become so much more important than us? We, who worked hard and played by the rules all of our lives.........My husband is a Veteran...I chose to teach Special Educations students all my life. We were doing jobs to help better our country, our neighbors, our friends. our fellow man...............Doesn't that count for anything with these Leftists? I'm thoroughly disgusted!
    And, feeling helpless as we watch this get worse daily!
    Thanks for letting me get this off my chest!

    You can be sure these emigrants will take advantage if possible because they have limited healthcare in their home country. Also I bet many maternity cases will be in this age group.

    Let Jimmie Kimmel pay for the needs of the illegals. Pelosi too. Can't believe how stupid these people are. Sanctuary cities and states...I live in Il. and we are so declared...I think all the people need to vote if they want to be a Sanctuary city or state. Immigration reform is needed. A baby who is born to an illegal SHOULD NOT AUTOMATICALLY BECOME A CITIZEN. NEED THAT WALL.

    Why in hell do DimDumDems want to give so much money to so many people who shouldn't even be here? Do they think it makes them look "caring"? Wouldn't it be more convincing of their "care" if they used their own money instead of giving away other people's money? Guess they aren't smart enough to figure that one out!!!!! Maybe they'd even win more elections if they really did care about other people instead of pretending by giving away other people's money.

    Having lived 70 years in this ONCE beautiful state, I pray that our citizens realize the need for Conservative leadership. I fear for our grandchildren, they will never know what it is like to live in the way we were brought up. Everywhere you travel in this state you see homelessness, filth, needles. I remember when they closed all the mental health facilities (Republicans) way back when. Juan Williams pointed that out on The Five....well TWO WRONGS don’t make a right! We need to reopen mental health facilities, NOT distribute needles. Help people who want to get and stay clean, rehabilitate them and support families who really need the help. This governor we have now is WORSE than Brown, which I didn’t think would ever be possible!!
    I am wondering if citizens of California can get a class action to sue him and the state for the destruction they are doing with OUR tax dollars! Conservatives have to speak up, we cannot allow the demented, delusional left to continue this states destruction. WHAT WE PERMIT, WE PROMOTE! STOP THIS INSANITY!

    That infuriates me!!! I have compassion for those who want to better their lives by coming to America, but, do it LEGALLY!!! Handing out incentives like this is a big draw. It infuriates me because I worked all my life trying to have the American dream until 2010 when my health stopped me in my tracks. Thankfully I only had a 3 month waiting period for my disability. But, because I live in Oklahoma and am under the age of 65, I can't get a supplemental insurance policy with my Medicare. So, I don't go for healthcare as often as I should because of the cost. I draw too much for Medicaid. I do qualify for $15 in food stamps a month!!! I think giving free healthcare to those that don't pay taxes is the most moronic thing I have ever heard!!!!

    There are tens of thousands of homeless people in this state (California) who are beginning to cause a major health crisis in Los Angeles and Goofy Gavin wants to give free health care to illegal immigrants? We are stuck here in, thank God , a city that is fighting the sanctuary state law! I wish the federal government would start prosecuting the governors and mayors who are giving sanctuary to the poor illegal criminals...something has to give here!

    I cannot understand giving illegal immigrants free healthcare when Americans cannot afford the coverage offered to us not to mention the expensive out of pocket costs that go along with the high monthly costs. Take care of Americans first.

    I can't believe what is happening to our great country. People are leaving California like rats
    from a sinking ship. Why do they want to ruin us??? I live here and am stuck due to financial
    reasons. I am in my mid 80s and used to love California. Not anymore.
