The "Protecting Our Democracy" Act

September 25, 2020 |

Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats unveiled proposed legislation called the “Protecting Our Democracy Act,” which would severely curtail Presidential powers. Of course, they made no secret of the fact that it’s aimed specifically at President Trump, because long-term thinking is not their strong suit.

Boy, where to begin? First, the USA isn’t a democracy, it’s a representative republic, so they don’t even know what kind of government they’re a part of running. And I’ve always assumed they don’t know what the Constitution is, but it provides for three co-equal branches of the government. Congress doesn't have the power to limit the President’s powers, and if they try, he’ll either ignore them or take them to the Supreme Court, and guess how that will work out, especially a couple of months from now.

At least it’s a relief to know that for all the public gasbagging they did about this, they’re not actually dumb enough to vote on it and send it to the Senate, which they know would stomp it like a cockroach. Like virtually everything else the Democrats have done since taking over the House in 2018, it’s an empty piece of political theater designed solely to smear President Trump. Wouldn’t it have been nice if they’d taken the time and energy they wasted on this political mudball and instead put it into working with Trump and the Senate to pass another coronavirus relief bill? This is what Americans who are hurting from the shutdowns get for Halloween instead: a trick instead of a treat.

    Governor,
In stead of the speaker's power grab Democrats should support HR8285, a bipartisan bill authored by Rep Gabbard and Rep Davis. The Election Fraud Prevention Act bans ballot harvesting.

Frankly, I think members of government in positions of power should have to be checked medically, both physical and mental capabilities. If they're not healthy they shouldn't be allowed to run for political office. This includes a check for alcohol and drug use. How many times has Speaker Pelosi been filmed while drunk?

I also think their ethics should be checked annually. Perhaps given sodium pentathol and questioned, by 2 third party professionals chosen at random from an approved pool.

I don't think congress members should be paid when not working for We the people. We don't benefit when they're off on witch hunts to cover their corrupt tracks. Nor should their family members be allowed to benefit in any way. Think Hunter Biden.

They should be schooled in civility. Obviously many are lacking. This is not a game. The Pelosis, Waters, Clintons, Bidens, Obamas, Schumers, Schiffs, and Romneys, et al, are the worst.

Last, political contributions need to be limited to those registered to vote. The contributions by Soros, Bloomberg, Steyer, et al, are so wrong. Companies are not individuals and should not be allowed to contribute. Our system is broken.

It truly amazes me how uncaring these people are. They want to change the rules everytime it doesn't suit them. It is ridiculous. So many of them should be behind bars right now. I'm sure they all knew what was going on on 2016!!

Would someone please try to explain to this idiot that we don't have a democracy. One would think someone in her position would know that. What? Do you just have to be an idiot to get elected to Congress?!

Barbara Shannon, in her comment spelled out the process for limiting the Presidential powers--something pelosi and friends should read and study. By the time all the steps would be accomplished, it would be after Jan 20, 2025 and wouldn't affect Donald Trump's Presidency. And if, God forbid, the democrats would get a President at any time after that, you know they'd have to go through the process to get things changed back.

I think she should do like ol' joe is doing. Go to her basement, stay away from cameras and microphones, have someone routinely bring her a bowl of her ice cream. Maybe, with her hunkered in at home, the rest of the House can get on with business.

They are just pandering. If I remember correctly, the Presidential powers are delineated in the Constitution. So, in order to limit or change those powers, Democrats would need to propose an amendment to the Constitution which would need approval by 2/3 majority of the House and Senate and then approved by 3/4 of the States. Seems to me they would have difficulty accomplishing the first step.
