So, the Democrats refuse to vote for “Trump’s wall.”  Caravans didn’t change that.  A break before Congress reconvened didn’t change that.  A meeting between congressional leaders and President Trump on Wednesday didn’t change it.  More violent and heartbreaking deaths caused by criminals here illegally didn't change it, either.  Democrats say their opposition is because a wall is expensive (I’ll pause for your helpless, uncontrollable laughter), but we all know that’s not really why they’re fighting it.  The Democrats have never cared how much anything cost.

Bulletin from the “Dog Bites Man” News File

By Mike Huckabee

Brace yourselves, the New York Times is biased against Donald Trump!

Normally, that would carry the same news value as hearing that Michael Avenatti likes the sound of his own voice, but the interesting part is the source of that observation. No, it’s not Captain Obvious. It’s in a new book by former New York Times editor Jill Abramson. She’s also a former Times Washington bureau chief and Wall Street Journal investigative reporter. And she admits that the Times is “unmistakably anti-Trump.”

Mitt Romney's op-ed

By Mike Huckabee

You’ve probably heard about incoming Utah Sen. Mitt Romney’s op-ed criticizing President Trump, and Trump’s response to it.  I don’t want to get in the middle of this, but I’d like to remind all members of the Republican Party that it’s a bad idea to form circular firing squads.  When I ran for President in 2016, there were many attempts by the media to get me to attack Trump.  I refused because I knew exactly what was behind them.  I reminded everyone then that our fire should be aimed at the other party’s policies, not at our own candidates.

Incidentally, when Mr. Romney writes that he will speak out against any Trump “statements or actions that are divisive, racist, sexist, anti-immigrant, dishonest or destructive to democratic institutions," he should first make sure that’s true and not merely described as such by the media.  This, after all, is the same honest, objective media that depicted Mitt Romney as a sexist for saying he had “binders full of women” (simply meaning he had a lot of resumes of women he wanted to appoint), as a cold-hearted plutocrat personally responsible for the cancer death of the wife of a former employee, and as a monster who was cruel to his own dog.  He should remember to take their descriptions of the character and motives of Republicans with a large shaker of salt.

A fun New Year’s list

By Mike Huckabee

Roger Stone continues the tradition of the late Mr. Blackwell’s “Best and Worst-Dressed List.”  I pass this along mostly because his best-dressed includes the most obvious choice of all: First Lady Melania Trump. As contributing writer Laura Ainsworth has noted, if women’s fashion magazines weren’t all run by bubble-dwelling leftists with the fairness and maturity of a gaggle of 16-year-old high school “mean girls,” Melania would be on the cover of every issue and they’d worship her like a goddess.

Ray Sawyer RIP

By Pat Reeder

From “Huckabee’s” pop culture guru, Pat Reeder (http://www.facebook.com/hollywoodhifibook)...

I’m sad to report that Ray Sawyer has died in Daytona Beach at 81.  Sawyer was one of the most recognizable frontmen in country-rock history, with his droopy mustache, cowboy hat and eyepatch, the result of losing an eye in a bad car wreck.  It earned him the nickname “Dr. Hook,” after the pirate Captain Hook in “Peter Pan,” and inspired the name of his band, “Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show,” later just Dr. Hook.

The struggling bar band was plucked from obscurity to be the vehicle for songwriter Shel Silverstein’s crazier tunes, such as the tearjerker parody “Sylvia’s Mother” and their breakthrough, “The Cover of Rolling Stone,” which actually won them the cover of Rolling Stone. Silverstein must’ve recognized them as kindred spirits due to their bizarre sense of humor, such as dressing up in psychedelic outfits and performing as their own opening act under an alias.

After streamlining their name and sound, Dr. Hook went on to have a number of slick chart hits, including “Sexy Eyes,” “A Little Bit More,” “Sharing the Night Together” and “When You’re In Love With A Beautiful Woman.”  Sawyer didn’t like the commercial turn and left the band in 1983, although he occasionally toured as “Ray Sawyer of Dr. Hook” and put out a solo album.  The “Dr. Hook” name is owned by co-lead singer Dennis Locorriere, who is reportedly planning a 50th anniversary Dr. Hook tour this year.

For a little nostalgic wallow in Ray’s honor, click the link to his obit, which contains videos for five Dr. Hook hits across the spectrum of their career.

CNN fails big

By Mike Huckabee

CNN was lucky this year, and not just because they didn’t have Kathy Griffin as part of their New Year’s Eve show.  NBC’s coverage of New Year’s Eve in Times Square was so bad (they earned the unique distinction of having dropped the ball by not showing the dropping of the ball), the chatter over it mostly overshadowed any talk about CNN’s coverage.

For those who enjoy train wrecks, here’s a recap of the evening, from the anchors’ drinking to the inappropriate topics of conversation, down to the lowest point of all, when original “Saturday Night Live” cast member Jane Curtin proved that she’s still not ready for prime time by declaring that her New Year’s resolution was “to make sure the Republican Party dies.”

I guess by this point, CNN figures that committing genocide against the 24% of the US population who are registered Republicans probably wouldn’t make a dent in their ratings, so they were okay with it. Either that, or their censor was drunk, too.  Still, it’s hardly the type of thing a rational adult says, much less says on a major news channel (well, okay, CNN.)

Meanwhile, Republicans can take solace in knowing that their chances of being offed en masse by Jane Curtin are pretty slim.  She couldn’t even keep subdue John Belushi, and that was 40 years ago.

Great moments in journalism

By Mike Huckabee

MSNBC blamed President Trump and his enforcement of immigration laws (reminder: that’s his job) for “forcing” foreigners to take dangerous routes to evade capture when they enter the US illegally. You know, the same way banks force people to rob them by refusing to hand out money for free.

Perhaps instead of building a wall, we should just build a giant, one-way moving sidewalk from Central America to San Diego.  I bet Pelosi and Schumer would fund that.  But I’d better stop before I give them any more ideas…

The Red State Model

By Mike Huckabee

A new report from the Census Bureau shows that in the competition between the liberal “blue state” model and the conservative “red state” model, red states are winning big among people voting with their feet.

Over the past year, the biggest population losses were in blue states, led by New York and Illinois, and the biggest gains were in red states, led by Texas and Florida.  As one former Illinois resident explained, “It’s taxes.  It’s corruption.  It’s politics.”

This is no surprise, and nothing recent.  Years ago on my radio show, I started judging the popularity of California’s far-left government by comparing the cost to rent a U-Haul truck from L.A. or San Francisco to Dallas or Houston, and vice versa.  U-Haul provides a substantial discount to anyone who will drive one of its trucks back from Texas to California, since there are so few customers willing to move in that direction.  (FYI: the current rate for a 15-foot truck for six days from L.A. to Dallas is $1895; for Dallas to L.A., $910.)  It was a metric that I believe our show did first, but I see it in many places these days.

Of course, the biggest downside is people from failing blue states moving to successful red states, then voting for the same kind of liberal politicians and policies that caused their last state of residence to fail.  I second the long-standing proposal by Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit that red states establish a “welcome wagon” service for new arrivals fleeing from blue states, to explain to them exactly why the last state in which they lived made them want to move here, so please don’t vote to turn here into there.

And here’s why the “red state” model works so well:  A new study by the Competitive Enterprise Institute found that in President Trump’s second year in office, the executive branch issued the second-fewest government regulations in history.  The fewest were issued during his first year in office.

I am for anything that will keep our borders secure. I wall, fence, increase military, drones, land mines, auto fire weapons. well last two a bit drastic but the border need to be secure. I have not been a fan of Romney and along with Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell These are people who will switch sides, or do what ever will help their political well being. They are not for God and Country in my eyes.

The proverb “Good fences make good neighbors” has been around for a couple of centuries in different forms. From Poor Richard’s Almanack by Benjamin Franklin. His version is: “Love your neighbor; yet don’t pull down your hedge.” Also Robert Frost's poem https://www.mamalisa.com/blog/robert-frosts-proverb-good-fences-make-good-neighbors/ . Be sure to read the comments, too. The logic of a fence and it's representation was not lost by Franklin ( didn't he have something to do with the Constitution), nor Frost...nor did most of the comments. A fence/wall/barrier is a physical structure to represent the trust and respect of neighbors, and fortifies their responsibility to protect not only their own domains, but the domains of the neighbors as well...as in cooperation to maintain the fence in good repair together, at all times.

In 2013, Janet Napolitano, Sec DHS, made an addition to the Patriot Act. She drew a 100 mile perimeter around the USA calling it a Constitution Free Zone. POTUS can use this statute put in by a DEM. Illegals will have no rights and there can be no DACA babies in this zone.
Please get to POTUS. What a bargaining chip. No more phony US citizens. Thanks. Karen 954-864-0530
