As expected, President Trump has rescinded Obama’s letter of guidance threatening schools with a loss of federal funds if they didn’t let self-declared transgender students use whichever bathrooms or locker rooms they wanted. It’s being treated by the left as a horrific blow to civil rights, but like so much of what Trump has been doing that’s been painted as dragging America to the far right, it just returns us to the center, where we were for decades before Obama tried to drag America far to the left.

Trump’s change just puts the issue back under state and local control. If schools in places like San Francisco believe that boys who claim to feel like girls should be able to use the girls’ bathroom, then that’s between them and the students’ parents. Spokesman Sean Spicer said Trump sees this as a state’s rights issue. It will be fun to see how liberals attack that rationale, after they’ve spent the past three months as born-again states’ rights advocates, arguing for the states' rights to negate the Electoral College, defy immigration laws and executive orders, and even secede from the union.

In one heartening sign that Trump Derangement Syndrome might finally be wearing thin, even the Trump-baiting Washington Post (New motto: “Democracy Dies In Darkness”) has a piece admitting that Obama’s transgender bathroom move was “on shaky ground from the get-go.” If he wanted “sex discrimination” under Title IX redefined to include “gender identity,” he should have lobbied Congress, because only they have the power to rewrite laws. Instead, he tried to do an end-run around the Constitution, using a “guidance letter” and a threat to take away schools’ funding to force an unpopular massive social change onto parents and school children. State officials called it “blackmail” and launched 23 lawsuits to stop it.

As WaPo notes, their own blogger Ed Rogers was prescient when he wrote at the time, “This is exactly the type of rule-by-fiat approach that has given rise to the frustration that has now produced Donald Trump.” And now that Trump is President, Obama’s go-it-alone-with-the-stroke-of-a-pen approach has made it extremely easy for Trump to reverse the policy all by himself, with just the stroke of a pen. Or more accurately, an eraser.

Praying for you and others who have TRUMPS ears.

Hi Governor! Another Arkansan here! I don't believe it is right to give rights to one group by infringing on the rights of others! As a woman I don't wish to be in any bathroom with a gender confused person! Don't I have rights too? Or do mine not matter anymore in the PC culture we live in! Go Trump!!

I have always felt that if you have the genitals you should use that particular bathroom or dressing room. I have 4 granddaughters 6 and under and I would not want want them to share a bathroom with a man who thinks he's a woman!

Very astute. I was always shocked that the president would stoop to address bathroom issues when there were things of far greater importance that his time should have been spent on. If I had a little girl, I would never want her (or myself for that matter) to use a restroom that transgender men would use.

Thank you for being a strong advocate for the president, and our country. I've always valued your opinion. I sure wish I could make that trip to Israel too. It's a bit out of my budget. I've died and met the Lord, so a trip to his land is a dream of mine.

I am so happy to have a President in the White House with a common sense conservative initiative. As a Caucasian southern conservative female, I completely felt left out and bullied during the last 8 years of the Obama administration. So many liberal ideas, such as the bathrooms, were forced down my throat and my concerns/rejections were only viewed as bias/racist and were deemed unimportant.. As a "deplorable", I almost feel giddy again and definitely relieved to know that I matter, my values matter and I can voice my option without being beat up... well, we are still working on that..., But I have a renew sense of optimism. Thank you Donald Trump & all Republican leaders

Has anyone noticed that the proponents of this legislation are all males. Can't even find one far left woman to support this. And, 99% pedophiles are men. Can anyone see the connection besides me? Brings into question the private lives of those proponents. This Canadian thanks you Mike for standing up for righteousness.

Well.... Uncle Betsy has been coming into the women's room since the beginning of time... you just didn't know why she looked like a man in some way. Uncle Bob on the other hand with his straggly beard that likes to wear his wife's moomoo, is NOT allowed in 'my' public bathroom. (i WILL mace him)
Where this gets dicey is with the K-12 kids sharing a bathroom or locker room. If any of us remember Jr High ... well, i see no positive outcome. I, personally, am really glad that i won't now end up in jail because some young man has decided that he was a girl for the day and accosted my grand daughter in the locker room.

I'm all for it. Simple genetics. If you're XX, you are a female. You use the woman's restroom. If you are XY, you are a male. You use the men's restroom. There is no such thing as "transgender", you are what you're born as. If you feel otherwise, you have a mental disorder.

Enough of his "self-identifying"! Until there is a definitive way to ascertain who and what a transgender is, I consider anyone that has an XX chromosome a female and anyone with an XY chromosome a male and should use the appropriate bathroom. God made them male and female regardless of how they "self-identify".

Concerning the transgender restroom controversy. I think it should be a state decision, however personally, I think that the use of a restroom should be determined by the state of genitalia. If a man has been changed to female genitalia, then she can use the ladies room...and vice versa. If they have not had the surgery, then they should use the restrooms they have always used.

I do not want a male over than 5 yrs. of age in a female bathrooms, shower room or dressing room! If I saw a person wallowing with pigs because they identified as a pig, I would call the police. Why? Because they obviously are having an identity crisis and need psychiatric counseling! The same applies to transexuals/transgender so. I believe .hey need psychiatric help...and prayer!

I think this whole issue is craziness. There have been transgender people forever, they have used bathrooms forever (of their own choice), and did we even know it? Of course not, an appropriately dressed transgender person would walk into a lady's room, let's say, or men's room, and who really even looked or knew if it was a real man or woman, or even cared. Today has become an issue because a big burly man, unshaven can walk in to any ladie's room and say but I identify as a woman. Most people were always smart enough to not do this. The Caitlin's of this world need to shut the heck up. The law is the law. President Trump has erased Obama's "law" and we are back to where we should be, dead center. Stop your whining.

In June of last year I was unsure if I would vote for Trump. I was going to vote 3rd party. But then Obama pulled this stunt of threating schools and that was it for me, right then Trump got my vote. I sat and looked at my 3 little children, my eldest about to start kindergarten, and I wanted that action erased.

The more President Trump does to undo the Obama disasters the better our country will be. The crybaby Liberals will fight for the next 8 years when they don't stop to realize Mr Trump is taking care of them too. Of course there will always be those who don't want to do anything but ride the coattails of the working people, they will never change. "Thank you for your valuable insight , Mr Huckabee!

I think this is such a small population of people and should be dealt with on a State and local level. I personally think mental disorders need to be handled by a medical doctor and not burden the majority with the dangers of identifying as something other than what reality reflects. It creates unnecessary fear and confusion by young people and think we need to stop embracing such controversial behavior as "normal".

    Dear Mike,

I'm a democrati-turned republican. I support President Trump. And I believe in goodness. My thoughts about the transgender bathroom is this. There should only be a male and female bathrooms. If a transgender woman had corrected herself through sex-reassignment surgery, she should have all the right to enter the female bathroom; however, if she still has the male reproductive organ. She should not go to a female's bathroom.

A perfect way for President Trump to rescind the Obama bathroom edict that he proclaimed across the land with the threat to remove funding to schools who failed to implement. God bless President Trump for removing the Federal Government and sending it to the individual states to make the decision on the state level! ????MAGA????

Hi Gov. Huckabee! I'm so glad the Pres did that. At 1st I thought maybe he should have waited awhile, but might as well get all of the hullabaloo out of the way at once. I'm glad he's moving so fast, but I'm concerned about my family's safety as white people, so I hope that these violent and/or paid protesters are dealt with speedily. Also, I'm embarrassed to say that I live in N. California- the majority here voted Trump- & boy do we feel unrepresented & kind of threatened. If we open our conservative mouths, it's likely someone's going to get aggressive. Please help!!!

I always believed the "Bathroom issue" was a purposeful distraction to draw our attention away from Hillary's many scandals. Mr. Obama was acting like an insane king instead of a president! I hope that after these initial erasures, Mr. Trump will not bypass Congress to abuse his E.O. power as his predecessor did.

Mr. Huckabee, I'm in total agreement that we need to return to pre-Obama. For generations there have been Womens and Men's bathrooms. Governor McCrory will forever be a champion to me for not buckling under pressure with this ridiculous issue. I pray for President Trump to remain strong and on course to restore America to the great nation she once was. Thank you for keeping us informed thru your posts. Together we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. God bless you.

I'm not sure why we have to indulge children's chromosomal delusions. In trying to make selected bathrooms available to a few, we make them inaccessible to the majority who do not want to perform private bodily functions in front of strangers of the opposite sex who wish they were something they aren't. More importantly, I don't think this is a government matter at all. Let private businesses install the bathrooms they want. If I were in their shoes, I'd close them all down rather than capitulate to government intrusion.

This was the correct thing to do as this was putting people (especially women and young girls) in danger in a place that should be a safe place (school). That being said, people that have felt that their biological sex was not who they really are and people that have actually had sex reassignment surgery have been quietly using whatever restroom they have wanted to for years so this move towards pushing this agenda on everyone else and making them accept what they are doing and saying has some larger overall end game in mind....time will tell what that is whether it's marginalizing Christians, destroying the traditional family unit or something else we can't see right now.

This whole "gender identity" lunacy is just another fantasy promulgated by liberals to get the liberal base riled up against normal people who understand basic biology. Most people know how to tell if they are a male or a female. Those who don't know can easily find out by looking between their legs. It's not rocket science. As it has been since the inception of public restrooms and locker rooms, you use the restroom/locker room that corresponds to your actual gender, not your imagined gender.

Next, we need to look into those same individuals who hide behind ADA laws, criss-crossing the state (in our case, Florida) deliberately looking for small businesses to take (advantage) to court over minor infractions, which had never been a source of an issues by anyone. "Pay us $5,000 or we will take you to court" is their motto.

Way I see it, President Trump undoing this legislation by Obama is a wise choice in giving power to the states regarding an issue too sensitive for the federal government to handle. Kinda brings to mind the Tenth Amendment.

I hope many people read your post. It's the clearest most concise explanation I've read. Obama did the country great disservice with this and many other orders, trying to steal our country from us. It's an on going fight but at least we are on to it. Most Democrats are not.
