Very Sad News
By Mike Huckabee
We are shocked and saddened to report that Louisiana Republican Luke Letlow, who was just elected to the House last month, has died before having the chance to take office due to complications from COVID-19. He was only 41.
Letlow announced that he’d tested positive on December 18th. He quarantined at home, but was soon hospitalized, then moved to the ICU, where he died Tuesday night. A hospital spokesman said he was showing signs of improvement when he suffered a cardiac event. It’s a tragic reminder that while we now have more treatments for the coronavirus and even a vaccine, there are still people who are uniquely vulnerable to it for one reason or another, and it remains a deadly threat.
Please join us in remembering Rep. Letlow and his wife Julia and their two children in your prayers.
Stimulus checks
By Mike Huckabee
The $600 coronavirus stimulus checks that have already been approved should be showing up in your bank accounts (if you have direct deposit) or mailboxes within the next two weeks. Check your balance online, since it might already be there. Here’s some more information on what to look for and when.
The Senate is wrangling over President Trump’s demand for additional $2000 coronavirus aid/stimulus checks for Americans. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked two Democrat maneuvers to fast-track it.
He wants it tied to two other provisions: repeal of Section 230 protections of Big Tech/social media outlets from lawsuits (since they’re behaving like politically-biased publishers rather than neutral speech platforms) and establishing a committee to examine 2020 election irregularities. Democrats are calling those items “poison pills” to keep them from voting for it. It’s rather telling that they consider free speech and election integrity to be “poison.”
Democrats are using the delay as a club to whack Republicans in Georgia, where they’re telling voters that electing them will put the Senate into Democrat hands and they’ll get their $2000 faster. That’s about the worst deal anyone’s been offered since Adam and Eve traded Paradise for a bite of apple. Long after the money is spent, you’ll be stuck with an all-Democrat federal government which, trust me, will cost you far more than two grand.
Besides, the two Georgia Republican Senators also back the $2000 checks, so that will most likely pass either way. Don't fall for it, Georgia voters.
Federal Judge Rejects Request
By Mike Huckabee
A federal judge in Georgia rejected a request by election boards in two counties to make over 4,000 voters whose ballots have been challenged prove that they are actual legal residents. The judge ruled that denying so many voters access to the ballot so close to an election would likely violate the National Voter Registration Act. The conservative group True The Vote has challenged more than 364,000 ballots statewide, citing US Post Office change of address records, but several counties have refused to accept the challenges.
If you think that’s hardly going to restore Americans’ confidence in the integrity of the voting process in Georgia, then try this: the judge who ruled against True The Vote is the sister of Stacey Abrams, the face of the state Democratic Senate push and the Democrats’ most prominent exponent of counting any scrap of paper with a “D” on it as a Democrat vote. She also refused a request to recuse herself from this case to avoid the appearance of impropriety.
At this point, I'd suggest “The Appearance of Impropriety” as the new motto of the Georgia Democratic Party.
Look Who Got the Vaccine
By Mike Huckabee
While the media were mocking President Trump for saying a coronavirus vaccine would be available before the end of the year, Sen. Kamala Harris was cynically spreading distrust in it.
She tacitly discouraged Americans from getting vaccinated against a deadly disease by telling CNN that taking it under Trump’s watch was “an issue” for her because “I would not trust Donald Trump and it would have to be a credible source of information that talks about the efficacy and the reliability of whatever he’s talking about.” She also suggested that he would muzzle and suppress health experts’ concerns about its safety “because he’s looking at an election coming up in less than 60 days and he’s grasping to get whatever he can to pretend he has been a leader on this issue when he is not.”
But hey, kids! Look who just became one of the first Americans to get the new COVID-19 vaccine, developed in record time thanks to Trump’s Operation Warp Speed!
After getting the shot, Harris said, “That was easy, I barely felt it. I want to encourage everyone to get the vaccine. It is relatively painless. It happens really quickly. It is safe.”
She later tweeted, “Today I got the COVID-19 vaccine. I am incredibly grateful to our frontline health care workers, scientists, and researchers who made this moment possible. When you’re able to take the vaccine, get it. This is about saving lives.”
All well and good, but here are a few words that I notice she did not say:
“Thank you, President Trump. You also were instrumental in making this possible. This vaccine probably wouldn’t exist for years if it weren’t for your efforts that I cynically denigrated for political purposes. I was wrong, and I apologize.”
The vaccine is reportedly up to 95% effective at preventing COVID-19, but it obviously does not cure hypocrisy or ingratitude.
