As it turns out, the explosive New York Times article about “Crossfire Hurricane,” the FBI’s investigation of the Trump campaign, appeared just prior to the release (at last) of Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report, and that is no accident. What looked like a blockbuster expose was nothing of the kind –- it was obviously intended as a way to help those top-level players at the FBI stay ahead of some potentially catastrophic revelations. Stunning news about “national security letters” used to put a spy (or spies) undercover and surveil multiple members of the campaign was casually buried deep within the 4,100-word article. Their hope is that when you and I finally see the IG report --- a few weeks from now, I’m sorry to say, as the DOJ gets to have a look first and respond --- the worst of it will have blown over.

Nice try, New York Times, but it won’t work. This is not going away.

As I mentioned when first talking about the article, Andrew C. McCarthy came up with a sharp observation about the sneaky thing the FBI did: Since they wanted to investigate where there was no underlying crime, they opened a counterintelligence, rather than a criminal, investigation, in the hope of UNCOVERING a crime. McCarthy has an insightful new column in which he builds on this idea. He sees it as the most important point to be made.

According to McCarthy, using counterintelligence powers, such as spying and electronic surveillance, to conduct a criminal investigation is an abuse of power. And that’s just what they did.

The NYT piece tries to equate the Clinton and Trump investigations to further the Democratic Party narrative that being public about hers and quiet about his ended up hurting her and helping him win. McCarthy calls that “bunk.” These were two very different cases; the investigation into Hillary was indeed a criminal probe, based on tons of evidence of numerous big-time felonies, while Trump’s was based on essentially nothing, just having some business associates who happened to be Russian, and that is no crime. And since the one on Trump had to be a counterintelligence investigation, that meant it was classified and couldn’t have been made public.

McCarthy acknowledges that Comey shouldn’t have overstepped his bounds as FBI director and gone public with a sampling of the wrongdoings with which Hillary wasn’t going to be charged. But the real fault, he points out, was in not charging her! “She likes to blame Comey for her defeat,” he says, “but she had a chance to win only because the Obama Justice Department and the FBI tanked the case against her –- in exactly the manner President Obama encouraged them to do in public commentary.” I would add that this is why Hillary should stop talking about “what happened” and just be glad she’s not behind bars. What SHOULD have happened was the hoosegow. Not the Oval Office, but the Rectangular Cell. That’s what a regular person would’ve gotten.

The real scandal here is that Jim Comey’s FBI –- in collaboration with John Brennan’s CIA –- lacking the evidence of a crime needed to open a criminal investigation against Trump and his campaign, opened a counterintelligence investigation instead, apparently with a complicit Obama White House and Lynch DOJ, and spied on political adversaries in the months leading up to a presidential election. If they were really so concerned about Russia-Russia-Russia, they could have just opened an investigation into Russia. But, no, that obviously wasn’t their goal. And to this day, there is no evidence of Trump’s participation in a crime.

The real crime is what the government did.

Mr. Huckabee - One possible answer to my question shown earlier today is that maybe Jeff Sessions has been persuaded by Rosenstein that Trump truly is guilty of "collusion" and that the Mueller investigation is going to result in his removal from office. If Sessions believes this to be the case, then his actions make sense. If Sessions does not believe that Trump is guilty, then the actions that Sessions has taken to protect Rosenstein and the other conspirators make no sense to me. Can you please comment upon Jeff Sessions and your perception of why he has acted so weakly in this case of FBI spying upon Trump and his campaign team?

THANK YOU MR. HUCKABEE FOR GIVING US THE PURE TRUTH. YOU ARE ONE OF THE VERY FEW RESOURCES WHERE WE HAVE THE, ABILITY TO RECEIVE THE WHOLE TRUTH. I THINK OF THE QUOTE OF JFK. ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU, BUT ASK WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY...... NO TRUER WORDS WERE EVER SPOKEN. WHAT CAN WE THE PEOPLE DO TO BRING THIS ABSURD FIASCO TO AN END AND HAVE THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN PROVEN TO BE THE GUILTY PARTIES TO BE BROUGHT TO JUSTICE. SUCH AS, (HILLARY, COMEY, OBAMA AND ALL OTHER GUILTY PARTIES. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS TODAY AND FOREVER

Why can’t the President do a recorded deposition? Isn’t that what Clinton did during his Monica/treason scandal before the Independent Council?

I find it extremely sad that this county (and formerly respectable forums such as NYT) have descended into such tepid circumstance as to credit evil people good and at the same time, credit honest men with the most sordid of actions -- such as the Scurrilous Hillary Clinton and company.. Our National Media has descended into these depths with a total abandonment of truth and in utter glee, have endorsed Satans purposes (to his glee it must be) with no regard as to the damage they are bringing upon the profession and to our proud nation. God help us -- we seem not to be able to do so!!!!
Thank you President Donald J. Trump and friends.

Are we ever going to get the so-called swamp drained? And, the many criminals put on trial? Strikes me we have complicit people as heads of various organizations who are stonewalling! can anyone be trusted?

    Mike,
I expect the treasonous actions and sedition of the Obama administration to be fully prosecuted and that several people need to be hung until dead. This is not over, it will not be over, and God help them all if justice is not done. This was a planned, coordinated and approved effort and implemented to undermine the will of the citizens of the USA and unseat a duly elected President and therefore his administration.

The corruption is so massive. Why is GOP leadership so passive and silent on the matter? Their silence is as corrupt as the FBI and CIA! Are they ALL in this together? If so, we are doomed, except if God chooses to expose them all.
I continue to pray for President Trump. Thank you, Gov. Huckabee for all you do. I wish I could help more.

    Governor,
Why can't this end? Mueller has no case against the President. The FBI/DOJ needs to have is house cleaner out starting with Strozk, think Page already resigned. The Nunes and his team needs to go after them all on the abuse of power and the FICA court debacle along with finishing the Hillary computer scandal along with the dossier etc. And Mueller still wants to sit down with Trump, I don't think so! It's a trap!
Our country has gone to you know what in a hand basket and it is very disturbing as to why we can clean it up!
    Take care
    hugs

These people must be held accountable or these agencies will continue breaking the laws of this nation! We the People haven’t changed our minds. The Clintons are guilty of many crimes. Obama and his handlers at the FBI, CIA, DOJ, etc., are Criminals, too! We want this stopped and the Constitution upheld!

    Mr. Mike,
Sir, agree completely with your synopsis but you are deficient in scope.
Remember initially Hillary & the DNC basically cheated Bernie both in finances & methods at the ballot box.
Afterwards, this "investigation" into Trump was made planting a Spy (s) into the campaign with the full realization that Hillary was a virtual guaranteed winner. Thus this makes the spying & investigation not an attempt to contain, arrest a criminal endeavor or Russian election intervention but rather as a method of influencing not only a campaign by reporting upon the inner workings giving Hillary a strategic advantage but of an attempt to increase the probability of success for the Clinton campaign.
The criminal element was the Obama administrations active involvement which equals political corruption. Obama will be proven to be a directory source eventually & Comey, Brennen, Lynch were all active participants & lapdogs to the Head of the Snake.
The recently revealed "Codename" is never previously mentioned in any form of communication even in the texts of Peter Strozk & Lisa Page. What this amounts to now is a quasi-legality supposedly of a joint FBI/DOJ/CIA operation when it truth the endeavor was an active attempt by Rogue Upper Echelon to guarantee an election then when that failed to attempt a soft Coup. "Hurricane Whatever" is total B/S a complete recent fabrication coverup of a top level criminal conspiracy amounting to Treason.
Why is the most important aspect.
Uranium One achieved $$'s millions in direct payments to the Clinton Sham Charity. How exactly were these $$millions dispersed into how many hands ? Next is the Iran deal where Obama flew $$'s over a Billion worth of CASH money to Iran. Iran has recently uttered a direct threat as to it will reveal the bribes paid & to whom. Consider plane-loads of cash & the potential of a few pallets of cash diverted into politicians pockets. Other endeavors with the probability of $$'s millions of illegal gains are the resources from Libya as in Gaddafi gold & the Haiti fiasco where a nice hotel was built & not much else.
It was essential that Trump be defeated then later when that failed to be removed from office prior to the revelations of criminal conduct & illegal wealth be discovered then worse Judges appointed who were not in the pocket so to speak while previous Department Heads could retire in luxury safe from investigations which would never be allowed to occur.
    Best laid plans fell asunder.

Information like this continues to surface, get the OMG how could this happen, be discussed on conservative radio and tv, only to fade away with no one getting fired, prosecuted or sent to jail, with a few resignations and early retirements, or maybe the occasional demotion or reassignment. While normal citizens are sent to jail left and right for lesser crimes, when will the system, and the law begin to apply equal justice to everyone, including those in government and in power?

Thank you for the insight. But you know perfectly well that no major player will ever, ever be held accountable. After all this time, Sessions has made certain any evidence against his buddies and masters has been destroyed or "massaged." I understand your optimism, Mr. Huckabee. I even campaign for you during your first run. But you know how this corrupt game is going to play-out. None of the "big fish" are going to see justice until Judgment Day. On that Great Day, The Almighty will settle all accounts, and for these criminals, there will be no escape. In the mean time, expecting Satan's Children to suddenly "do justice" is a forlorn hope.

I just can't wrap my mind around how corrupt our Govt has gotten in the past decade. I'm saddened that it got to this state, but heartened that there are steps being taken to clean it up and bring it back to where it should be. We used to be admired, but now we are the punch line of late night comedians.

So, when does the general, we the people, public, get to seen charges brought up against Hitlery, those FBI cronies, the reigning DOJ at the time and possibly Osama Obama? Never...did I hear that right? Trump touted this from the beginning and we have WASTED so much of our taxpayer $$$'s on NOTHING! It's amazing this country sustain itself when the corruption went ALL the way to the TOP during the Osama Obama Adm and now they won't take a breath to let we the people get on with our lives (that are better now that Osama is out)
