As John Solomon points out in his latest report on the FBI, Congress created the Federal Bureau of Investigation to “investigate crimes and stop foreign intelligence and terrorism threats.”  It was never intended, by any stretch of the imagination, to be a power broker for our elections or, heaven help us, to strategize an execution of the 25th Amendment to depose a sitting President.  But, according to new testimony from then-FBI general counsel James Baker, that seems to have been exactly what was going on.

Baker, as the FBI’s top attorney at the time, would presumably have been involved in the FISA application and three subsequent renewals for the surveillance of one-time Trump campaign associate Carter Page.  So his testimony would be central to investigating the allegations concerning the abuse of this process.  It was believed by those questioning him that he could shed light on why the political origin and inherent bias of the Steele “dossier” was withheld from the FISA court (as if we didn’t know).

Commentary continues below advertisement

News of Baker’s testimony before the House has been dripping out for the past week.  According to FOX News’ Catherine Herridge in her report right after the closed-door hearing, he gave “explosive” testimony about the FBI’s handling of the Trump/Russia probe.  Her sources at that time were House members present for the testimony; North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows said he told them that “things were done in an abnormal fashion,” noting (in a fine example of understatement) that it was “a reflection of inherent bias that seemed to be present in certain circles.”

At the time of Herridge’s initial report, Baker refused to answer her questions about his handling of the dossier or his advice, if any, to deputy Attorney General Rosenstein before Rosenstein signed the final surveillance warrant  (too bad---good question!).  Likewise, lawmakers offered few details about his testimony, citing a confidentiality agreement with Baker and his attorneys.  But they described it as “forthcoming, deliberate and sober.”  Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan said Baker had told them there was another source offering information to the FBI, and it was the name of this source that they found “pretty explosive.”

It’s been a week since Baker’s testimony, and stunning new details have just emerged.  In Solomon’s report, he reveals Baker believed that the talk of secretly recording President Trump and going before the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment was absolutely serious.  He wasn’t in the particular meeting with Rosenstein that Rosenstein has characterized as “joking” in its references to wearing a wire, but he said he did have conversations with then-deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe and his legal assistant, compulsive texter Lisa Page, that revealed the talk had been quite serious.  And Herridge can now report that, based on what McCabe and Page told Baker immediately after that particular meeting, he believed that Rosenstein, after Comey’s firing, was working with two people inside the administration to invoke the 25th Amendment against Trump.

“As far as Baker was concerned, this was a real plan being discussed,” Solomon heard from one of his sources.  “It was no laughing matter for the FBI.”  These discussions, Baker recalled, took place right around the time then-Director James Comey was fired by Trump.  Keep in mind, the 25th Amendment is the prescription for replacing the President or Vice President “in the event of death, removal, resignation or incapacitation.”  It was passed in the aftermath of the John F. Kennedy assassination and was first applied in the 1970s with the Watergate scandal.  Section 4 of the amendment deals with incapacitation, meaning when the President “is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”

The President was hardly incapacitated.  As Solomon puts it, “He was fully exercising his powers --- but in a way the FBI leadership did not like.”  In other words, if they were talking seriously about doing this, they were discussing carrying out what’s known as a “bloodless coup.”

Another source told Solomon, “You walk away from the Baker interview with little doubt that the FBI leadership in that 2017-2018 time frame saw itself as much more than a neutral investigative agency but actually as a force to stop Trump’s election before it happened and then maybe reversing it after the election was over.”

Another thing Baker’s testimony confirms:  various versions of that Steele dossier were flying around in the fall of 2016, in a concerted attempt to get it into the hands of the FBI.  In addition to Christopher Steele, John McCain and Glenn Simpson, we can add David Corn of Mother Jones magazine to those who approached FBI officials.  Corn gave one version of it to Baker in November of 2016, right after Trump won the election.  By then, Steele had been fired by the FBI and was no longer supposed to be used as a source, so Corn served as a “back door” to keep the information flowing.

This is one more example of someone in the media being used as an investigative source when all they were really doing was supplying politically-motivated smears to add to the FISA application.

Rosenstein’s office put out a statement back on September 21, saying, “I never pursued or authorized recording the President and any suggestion that I have ever advocated for the removal of the President is absolutely false.”  Enough with the prepared statements; Rosenstein needs to be sworn in and directly questioned for the record, particularly about the identity of the two “inside” people Baker said he was working with on that 25th Amendment plan.  He is scheduled to appear to testify on Capitol Hill this Thursday, but Herridge reports that committee members are not in agreement as to whether it will be transcribed testimony or just a briefing (not transcribed).

Folks, we are getting down to something that is way too important to allow for imprecision.  Two words to committee members:  TRANSCRIBE IT.  That is, if Rosenstein shows up and doesn’t invoke the “5th Amendment plan.”

The President said after his talk with Rosenstein that the deputy attorney general would be keeping his job.  Given all the circumstances, we know that this has to be mostly about politics and timing.  Rosenstein has conflicts of interest that are supposed to prevent him from overseeing the investigation of Trump, and Trump knows that.  I believe the President trusts that the truth of what was happening inside the FBI will unfold as Congress investigates, and he’s willing to sit back, pop some popcorn and watch the show.

As for my readers, I know many of you have given up and think there will be no accountability.  But we’re getting really close here.  Know who else would like to see accountability?  The rank-and-file at the FBI, who must be mortified.  With Baker’s testimony, we can confirm that FBI officials were using sources that were purely political (including so-called journalists, who shouldn’t be political but are), that they ignored subpoenas and used heavy redaction to try to hide this, and that they were having serious conversations about wearing a wire and trying to get the President removed from office.  If these things happened, we have to keep digging, find the truth and demand accountability.

Short of talking about an outright assassination plot, it doesn’t get much worse than this.

I'm glad you said that we are getting close to having some accountability; I've been wondering if that would ever happen, in spite of some Republicans (like yourself) bringing up issues.
When Rosenstein was answering questions quite a while ago, previous to the 'recording Trump' situation, he was smiling and smirking. My opinion of him went down at that time. To the American people the questions and the whole process were serious, and it was upsetting to see him treating the whole process like a joke. He evidently felt that nothing would ever come out to show his, and the Democrats', wrongdoing.

    Dear Mr. Huckabee,
While everyone seems to be obsessed with the Kavanaugh confirmation, I am shocked that absolutely no one is talking about this situation! It appears that there definitely was an assasination plot & I find that very disturbing. To dislike someone to the point of hating them so much that you are willing to go to these lengths is beyond reprehensible!! I hope & pray there will be accountability for these actions... I feel quite sure there will be some other circus in town flooding Facebook folks to distract the country from this story & I find that not only sad, but scary. Thank you for your continued loyalty to finding the truth & revealing it in the precise & truthful way that you do. God Bless...

You are correct when stating Mike that we are about to give up about anything ever being done. If nothing is done then that means they are all in this together both Dems and Repubs. Night after night, day after day we keep hearing more and more. Why cant something be done? Lastly, whatever happened to the un-redacted material that was supposed to come out? Given to the IG, What!!

I fully believe Rosenstein was serious and should be fired and imprisoned, along with the other traitors to our country. We have seen what evil the Democrats are capable of recently and now the so called Republicans. Clean house!

So, here we go again. I guess if you are rosenstein, or even Dr Ford, you get to sit down and negotiate the terms of your testimony? And, if your terms aren't met, you don't have to? Or, if you are lerner or other high democrat officials, you can get by with refusing to testify via pleading the 5th and there are no repercussions? And, a paid vacay while awaiting the outcome with a transfer to another position with at least the same salary isn't exactly what us mere mortals could expect, so, those weren't repercussions. Just more of, if you have the finances or the backing or are employed in the US gov't--you aren't held to the same standards as we the people. I can't imagine that, if there were an investigation into say, my former employer, that they would get away with determining what documents that are demanded would actually get turned over, or with redacting any information in those documents. Give me a break on the "oh, national security"--when it seems even the FBI wasn't concerned with lack of national security in hilary's escapades. The only "security" the documents that have been supoenaed would endanger is the security of the wrong-doers.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this baffling situation. Rosenstein has his dirty fingers in so many lurid and treasonous plots to submarine a duly elected president and his administration, it makes your head spin. This Howdy-Doody lookalike needs to pay the price behind bars for the abject misery he has personally foisted on the American people.

POTUS seems to be subscribing to the theory that one should keep friends close and enemies closer. He is a master tactician so I am supposing that he knows exactly what he is doing and how to let this thing play out. He is a good man who doesn’t want to do to Rosenstein what the democrats did to Kavanaugh. He’s taking the high road and giving him the benefit of the doubt, unless and until PROOF is tweezed out. He knows this is a very serious game that they have played and the punishment will be great so making SURE about who did what is important to DJT. It’s very sad for them and for this country. We’ve never had a case where so many people have acted in such a traitorous way. He probably hates to see them be punished because he’s such a loving man. It’s so sad actually.

I just heard on Brett Baer that due to the volume of statements against Justice Kavanaugh for impeachment, Justice Roberts is now looking into the truthfulness of his answers to the Senate. The fact that Ford’s family house was initially foreclosed on by Justice Kavanaugh’s mother has never been presented to the Senate is unfathomable. The family was able to reverse the foreclosure with the mortgage company so the case was dismissed. Had the press done their job, this would have been exposed. They’re too busy being dishonest. It’s so sad what’s going on in this country. I credit all of this divide to Obama. He was a disgrace.

How do we demand Rosenstine's testimony is transcribed? If it's not, we will get the usual... the left's version and the right's version!! How do we demand accountability? Has there been anyone held accountable? Obama sent unmarked money to Iran, donated money to Palestine, Benghazi... left Americans out there to die, Lois Lerner...IRS, Eric Holder... Fast & Furious and of course Hillary's gross negligence of classified material plus the Clinton Foundation pay for play.. I can't believe that the American landscape could have turned into a sink hole. It's really sad and scary..

    Received yesterday:
I am forwarding this because it confirms my suspicions also! I felt like they figured she would be safe from purgative charges as long as she could not remember the time or the place the claimed event took place. Also don’t believe she and her co-conspirators considered that someone would ask her who drove her 6 miles home? And there is more:

Subject: Dr. Ford an EYE OPENER

Begin forwarded message: I hate to keep “whipping a dead horse” and hope this is the last we will hear of this fiasco. A sham, just like the Russia collusion garbage.

Subject: RE: Dr. Ford an EYE OPENER
If you think this chick wouldn’t lie about Kavenaugh to protect Roe v Wade, you are living in another universe…
“Corcept Therapeutics ( manufacturers and markets an abortion pill drug called mifepristone, and Christine Blasey Ford is a co-author of at least eight published scientific papers produced by the pharmaceutical giant to promote its pills. You can see Blasey’s name listed on several publications at this web page detailing their research papers.”
You ask why Dr. Christine Blasey-Ford would do this? I’ll give you 4 reasons:

    1) she owns a major portion of the company that makes the morning after abortion pill and she is
afraid Kavanaugh will overturn Roe v Wade, therefore making her million
    dollar empire go caput.

    2) She’s a professor at the same college (Palo Alto
    U) where Diane Feinstein’s husband, Richard Blum, is on the board of
directors, she has worked with Blum on the “resist Trump” movement for two

    3) Dr. Blasey-Ford’s brother, Tom Blasey, is business partners with
Peter Strzok’s cousin Jill Strzok for a company called Exelis Inc. enough
    said there.

    4) Feinstein and Chuck Schumer appointed lawyers set up three
GoFundMe pages for her the week BEFORE she testified, which are currently up
to over a million dollars for her to keep as payment for her testimony. I
can go on if you would like... Don’t believe for one minute this “professor”
    came out of nowhere.

I've commented before about the Swamp in DC (District of Corruption). At the risk of plagiarizing from Tucker Carlson's book, America is a ship whose crew is well established with longevity and power and a new Captain the crew wants to throw overboard so they can run the ship like they have always done. Since the crew is undermining the Captain, the ship is headed toward a huge iceberg and in danger of sinking.

America is a ship that is being run by fools and Governor I sure hope you are right that there is sunshine and smoother waters ahead. But at this point I still see the iceberg!

Governor Huckabee, I am extremely thankful that God has prepared you and others for such a time as this. I continue to appreciate the information that you share, the links you provide, your integrity, insight, and wisdom, as well as your commitment to inform and educate. I've commented before, but will do so again, that I also appreciate that you give readers a means for responding to your articles. Regarding this particular article, admittedly, although President Trump was not my first pick, and in prayers offered on his behalf I often pray that he will exercise greater discretion, restraint, and tact in his communication, I did vote for him. When he won the election I exceedingly rejoiced! I see his win for the Presidential race as close to, if not in fact, miraculous. It is assuredly an answer to prayer. As a contemporary of Judge Kavanaugh, my peers and I were educated from middle school forward that politicians make campaign promises and do not intend to keep, or keep them. That it's all about image, and power. The rumored collusion between the two parties was confirmed both during and following the election. All hell broke loose against President Trump from both sides of "the aisle." I am so grateful to God for this modern day Cyrus that has served all Americans with passion and vigor. He has tirelessly worked to be accessible, to stay in direct communication with Americans, to fulfill campaign promises, to advance freedom, to openly support and give place to our Judeo-Christian values, and to do the right thing. No one could have imagined a leader that would so bold, so courageous, so determined, so focused, and so transparent. I am certain the world is envious -- in a good way. President Trump has removed the Light of America from under the basket, and placed it back on the lampstand. As it concerns those that are fighting against President Trump, and his efforts, it is my prayer that what they have been doing in the dark will be brought to light, and that those that have laid traps will themselves be caught. Thank you for letting your Light shine, and for shedding light on items of importance on a daily basis. I hope and pray that the information that you share with your readers will be not just heard, but put to use as prayer points, and as a call to action for all that love living in a nation that still declares "In God We Trust."

Hello Mr. Huckabee. Maybe you remember my email from the time Rosenstein was appointed to this position. At that time I wrote : you planted the bedbug/louse in your republican administration, and since he is Jewish he will destroy pres Trump from inside. You can see from what is going on, that president will never dare to fire Rosenstein, because Jewish clique/cabal would destroy him. They put Trump to this position, and if he doesn't act the way they want , he is gone What unfortunate situation your country got in to.
