Today's Edition: 6 minute read

--------------------------

Over the weekend, a cataclysmic storm continued to build, threatening massive destruction. I don’t mean the hurricane in the Gulf, but the escalating battle in Congress between the old line House Democrats (the “hide what we really believe until after the election” faction) and the regressive “progressive” Democrats who’ll come right out and tell you they want open borders, sky-high taxes, no prosecution of criminals, no deportations of illegal aliens, and socialism replacing capitalism. They think that’s a winning platform, while the old line Democrats think it’s the kind of platform that drops out from under you when you get hanged.

That link recaps some of what led up to this, plus the latest development in which Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Chief of Staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, suddenly catapulted from the shadows to center stage by accusing other Democrats – including black and Native-American Democrats – of being racists and white supremacist sympathizers. This is what happens when you develop a bad habit: you just can’t stop doing it even when it makes no sense whatsoever.

New York plunges into darkness

By Mike Huckabee

Saturday, 70,000 New York City residents and tourists were plunged into darkness when a transformer fire caused a major power blackout.  And where was Mayor Bill DeBlasio when the lights went out?  In Iowa, campaigning for President. DeBlasio’s absence during the crisis while he was off chasing higher office was so egregious that even liberal Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo criticized him.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/new-york-governor-criticizes-mayor-for-absence-during-nyc-blackout

To be fair, New York’s lights have been dimming ever since voters foolishly elected DeBlasio, and he started busily undoing the miracle turnaround wrought by Rudy Giuliani and maintained by Mike Bloomberg. Since he took over, socialist schemes, social engineering and shady dealing have taken precedence over basic mayoral duties, like making sure the garbage is picked up or snow plows are ready before the first blizzard. You can tell DeBlasio really did get his training under pre-Giuliani Mayor David Dinkins, who was also famous for being off in places like South Africa, making grand leftist speeches while his city was deteriorating.  I wouldn’t be surprised if the transformer fire was caused by a giant rat eating through the wiring.

The Instapundit blog likes to quote Victor Davis Hanson in situations like this: “Quite simply, the next time your elected local or state official holds a press conference about global warming, the Middle East, or the national political climate, expect to experience poor county law enforcement, bad municipal services, or regional insolvency.”

Agreed.  But I’ll also quote something I’ve said myself many times:  Political office holders who want to run for a higher office should first quit the offices they hold.  The taxpayers shouldn’t be expected to subsidize your hunt for a better job while you neglect your responsibilities to them.

Straws

By Mike Huckabee

Warning: this is a tragic story about a freak accident, and reading it might make you feel squeamish for the rest of the day.  But it is an important consumer warning to avoid hard metal straws that are being promoted as an alternative to plastic straws that are allegedly destroying the environment.

https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/coroner-issues-warning-eco-friendly-straw-kills-woman/

It also gives me another chance to remind you that the entire anti-straw jihad is based on an unverified straw usage statistic that came from a few phone calls made for a school project by a then-9-year-old boy.  Because of that, we now have one verified death caused not by plastic straws, but by the substitute that radical environmentalists want us to use because the other kind will theoretically kill us.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2018/07/18/anti-straw-movement-based-unverified-statistic-500-million-day/750563002/

This has also led to nonsensical responses like threatening California restaurant wait staffs with arrest if they give diners a straw without being asked, or a law that took effect July 1st in DC that can fine restaurants up to $800 for offering customers a plastic straw.

https://townhall.com/tipsheet/timothymeads/2019/06/27/dc-restaurants-could-be-fined-800-for-giving-out-plastic-straws-n2549107

FYI: here are the current crime stats from the DC Police Department, just in case you were thinking that maybe the Democratic city leaders had no crimes more serious to deal with than driving whatever restaurants survive the new $14-an-hour minimum wage out of business with draconian plastic straw fines.

Major Pro-Life victory in Oklahoma

By Mike Huckabee

What does it take to make leftists declare a judge’s ruling to be “rogue” and not in line with the Constitution?  It takes a judge who upholds Oklahoma’s ban on particular abortion procedures in the second trimester.

https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/major-pro-life-victory-judge-upholds-ban-abortion-procedure-oklahoma/

Read the details at the link. The judge wasn’t impressed by the argument that this is the “most common” procedure for second-trimester abortions, which doesn’t mean it’s the safest or even constitutional. Unfortunately, similar laws against this barbaric procedure have been struck down in other states, and the pro-abortion activists of course intend to appeal the ruling.  I’d just love to know if, behind closed doors, they’re cursing about “activist judges” who impose their own beliefs onto the Constitution (which is how we got Roe v. Wade in the first place.)

I especially liked this gripe from the CEO of a group that runs three Oklahoma abortion clinics:  “It’s so frustrating to have that decision-making power taken away from these physicians who have gone through medical school and become highly trained in their fields.”

When their chosen field is abortion, I don’t blame the judge for discounting their learned endorsement of a procedure that’s guaranteed to result in the death of a human being every time it’s performed.

Hurricane Barry was downgraded to a tropical storm Sunday, and it spared New Orleans a direct hit.  But large areas of Louisiana and Mississippi are still facing devastating floods, and the water isn’t the only danger.

Today is Amazon Prime Day, when Amazon.com offers some of its best deals of the year.  Naturally, some liberals find this “problematic” and are racked with worry and guilt over whether they should take advantage of the sale or boycott Amazon. The rest of us can read all about their soul-searching at the link, after we finish shopping.

Things worth considering before voting:  Pete Buttigieg is one of the top tier Democratic contenders for President of the United States.  His prior experience is being Mayor of South Bend, Indiana, which doesn’t seem to be getting much of his attention these days. When he did recently give it any attention, it was to smear his own police department as a bunch of racists.  When they didn’t take kindly to that, he tried to fix it by sending them pizza. That didn't go over any better.

https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/south-bend-police-scorch-buttigieg-pizza-stunt-drop-politics/

I can only imagine how he would deal with China or Iran if he were President.  Hope Domino’s delivers there!

Mike I'll keep saying it until after the 2020 elections. Don't sell these crazy liberals short, they know how to turn out the vote. The disastrous mid terms prove that.
Unless Franklin Graham goes out with nationwide rallies next year to get out the vote like he did for 2016, we are doomed. So are tens of thousands of future aborted babies. So is our American way of life and religious freedoms.

I'd like to comment on this straw thing. Perhaps there are too many straws floating around the world. However, I see a greater problem with Wal-Mart plastic bags. When you shop at Wal-Mart you get 3 or 4 times the amount of bags that you actually need to carry your stuff home. I usually keep about 6 bags and throw the other 2 dozen away. This has got to be a bigger problem than the straw thing. Maybe it's a big deal in California because it's closer to the ocean where they dump them.

In the news . Trump told those three congress women to go back where they came from . He spoke what needed to to told to them. Those kind of people always slander Trump along with some Republicans and the Media. And absolutely nothing is said to defend President Trump even from the Republicans . These people deserve to be told to get out. Trump is the only President ever , who’s had the courage to stand up for America and the people who voted for him. It’s a complete shame the way he’s treated by both parties .
