Apparently, some women basketball players think that bringing divisive political messages into the arena during the National Anthem is working out so spendidly for the NFL, they need to start doing it during WNBA games as well.
An unnamed player for one of the teams, the L.A. Sparks, responded this way: “Everyone's so focused on the flag. It's not even about the flag. It's about racial equality, criminal justice reform, police brutality and everything along those lines and I feel like people are forgetting that.”
Okay, to make it clear: I feel like she’s forgetting that WNBA games are about basketball, NFL games are about football, and neither is about forcing political statements onto fans - particularly during the brief moment when everyone shows respect for America and gratitude for those who sacrificed to protect our rights and freedoms. It’s taken the WNBA a long time to build a fan base. Do you want to drive them away in a week? Then keep this up.
