Former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who signed off on the last renewal of the FISA warrant application to spy on Carter Page, appointed Robert Mueller, determined the “scope” of the special counsel investigation of Trump and his colleagues, and supposedly supervised Mueller and his team, tried hard in testimony Wednesday to distance himself from all that happened in what has been dubbed “Spygate.”

He was smiling broadly at times, perhaps because he thought he was succeeding in his aim. And maybe he was, at least partially. But with his effort to save his own skin, this slippery attorney actually succeeded in showing us that there WAS a coup against the President. Nothing else makes sense.

If we weren’t living in “these uncertain times” --- a phrase I can’t wait to see retired --- Rosenstein’s testimony would be "the" story right now. Even the mainstream media might have to cover it a little. At the moment, it’s easy for them to bury it. But this was just the first of many hearings, and John Durham continues to investigate. Step by step, the revelations continue to prove we were right.

In his long-awaited testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Rosenstein’s strategy was to present himself as someone who trusted his colleagues to give him correct information, so much so that he didn’t bother to read “every word” of the FISA application before signing it, even though in this case his signature was his personal stamp of verification of "every word" to the FISA court.

Sen. Lindsay Graham, chairman of the committee, was having none of it. Neither was Sen. Ted Cruz, who skewered Rosenstein for including Flynn in the “scope” memo in August of 2017 after the FBI had concluded on January 4 that there was no evidence against Flynn and that the case should be closed. He went on to bring up that infamous meeting held the very next day, January 5, in the Oval Office. Going through the timeline, he told Rosenstein that there were only two possible conclusions: “either that you were complicit in the wrongdoing, which I don’t believe was the case, or that your performance of your duties was grossly negligent.” Much more; this is a must-watch video if you’ve not already seen it.

You’ll notice in the video that Rosenstein isn’t smiling anymore. It was really Cruz, by giving Rosenstein the benefit of the doubt as he did, who showed point-by-point what had been going on deep within the FBI. (Were you aware of THIS? Were you aware of...THIS?) Rosenstein comes across as a naive fool, but that's likely a choice he has made, finding it preferable to coming across as someone who should be wearing an orange jumpsuit.

"Why did you let this pile of partisan lies consume the country for two years?” Cruz asks. Rosenstein tries in vain to change direction, saying that “there was a lot going on at the Department of Justice” during those years, that he and Jeff Sessions were making “significant changes” that weren’t “just about the Russia investigation," as if that had any bearing here.

David Marcus at the NEW YORK POST has a magnificent write-up of the day’s testimony and its significance.

Sen. Graham asked Rosenstein the big takeaway question of the day: “If you knew then what you know now, would you have signed the warrant application?”

Rosenstein was ready: “No, I would not.”

No, he would not. If it was wrong for Rosenstein to sign the renewal based on the facts they had, then it was wrong to apply for the warrant in the first place. From the start, there was never any evidence on Carter Page. They used that first warrant as a pretext for all the spying to come.

So that’s it. It was all a fraud, started with a piece of partisan, fictional oppo “research” paid for by (who else?) the Hillary Clinton campaign. It was perpetrated against Donald Trump, his associates, and the country at large. We went through years of needless torture over NOTHING. Think of all the histrionics, the obsession, the endless “Russia, Russia Russia!” paranoia, leaping from the front page of THE NEW YORK TIMES, and consuming almost all major media, day after day after day. The many millions of dollars wasted. The enormous waste of time –- Congress’s time, everybody’s time. Trump’s presidency was practically stalled. That was the idea, of course.

Think of the lives and careers that were ruined, particularly that of Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, a man who served his country for 33 years. As it turns out, he didn't lie after all, and the FBI didn't even ask him the question (concerning sanctions on Russia) they later accused him of lying about! Then there's Carter Page, who had actually helped the FBI in the past yet was accused by them of being a Russian agent. The President himself was being investigated for conspiracy with Russia --- which would be treason --- when there was no evidence of that at all. Of course, if Hillary had (shudder) been elected, all evidence would have been swept away, shredded, hit with hammers and Bleach-bitted, and the spying on political enemies would have metastasized.

Think of the lack of focus we had on really important things --- particularly China, which was hiding the spread of a deadly contagion from its own virology lab while Congress was busy with its kangaroo-court impeachment fiasco.

The irony of this is that Vladimir Putin must have had a really good laugh about it, every day. He did want to see chaos over here, and in their zeal to get rid of Trump, our own Justice Department and the American media gave it to him.

Mr. Marcus is clearly as angry about this as I am. “What is becoming clear,” he says, is that the Department of Justice wanted to prevent, then destroy, a Trump presidency. These were not open-minded officials being led by the facts; they were manipulating the facts and hiding exculpatory evidence to bring down Trump and his associates.”

I would add that this is what Rosenstein was trying to distance himself from today. He has to appear ignorant of all of it or be part of the conspiracy. If he does know more than he’s letting on –- which seems likely; Cruz gave him more benefit of the doubt than I would –- it’ll be up to John Durham and his team of investigators to prove he does, through the testimony of others or some revealing text or email. Also, U.S. Attorney John Bash is now looking more closely at the unmasking process, particularly as it was used against Michael Flynn.

More subpoenas are set to be issued this week. Clapper, Brennan, Comey, and McCabe are expected to be among those subpoenaed by the Senate.

Democrats tried to say on Wednesday that these hearings are being held to weaken Biden’s run for president. Trust me, if this were about Biden, we’d have plenty to investigate HIM for, and that wouldn’t be pretty, either.

UPDATE: On Wednesday, Andrew McCabe issued a statement essentially calling Rosenstein a liar for suggesting that FBI officials misled him. Details here.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsay Graham read it aloud near the close of the hearing and allowed Rosenstein a chance to respond. Rosenstein said he hadn’t actually said “misled.” He’d said McCabe hadn’t been “fully forthcoming.”

Personally, I doubt either one of them has been “fully forthcoming.”

Apparently, there’s a longstanding feud between McCabe and Rosenstein, starting around the time President Trump fired then-FBI Director James Comey. The WASHINGTON POST wrote about this two years ago, and it adds a fascinating dimension to the story.

McCabe is the one who said in a memo that Rosenstein had talked in a meeting about wearing a wire and using the 25th Amendment to get rid of Trump. Rosenstein reportedly responded later that he had been joking. Then-FBI general counsel James Baker was not present but heard about the comments after the meeting and thought Rosenstein was serious.

At that time, each man had his own reasons for wanting the other to step away from the “Trump/Russia” case. And today, they’re telling different stories about what went on. A prosecutor’s dream. I have a feeling this is going to get good.

A prosecutor’s dream. I have a feeling this is going to get good. Maybe, but, only if President Trump is reelected. If Mr. Biden wins, this and everything else including Hillary will be swept under the rug and more of the same will go on in the Biden Administration.

My continual prayer is for the LORD to work to reveal all the evil Rosenstein and his henchmen have try to do to our Country Even if this reveals the evil of Obama as he was behind all of this destruction.

The Mueller investigation was full of flawed characters, carelessness and even stupidity BUT I am not convinced it was part of a conspiracy. Even the Lt. Gen. Flynn was a flawed character who was fired by President Trump for, as I recall, lying to VP Pence. I think TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) played a far bigger role than it should have (egged on by the media). I think ODS (Obama Derangement Syndrome) played a role in the endless ‘birther’ and ‘Muslim’ accusations‘ against President Obama. The difference being that ODS was handled outside the formal channels of government. Both were ugly and, I think, unnecessary.

Gov Huckabee: Thought it might be anticlimatic, I'd like to see video footage of 1) Mr. Rosenstein being asked (and answering) questions about what evidence/probable cause was the basis for his appointment of Mueller as the Special Counsel, and 2) Why he allowed Mueller to appoint a staff of ALL Democratic doners/supporters to his team? (Without any Republicans - in short a TOTALLY BIASED TEAM). Even though it is obvious that there was no predication for Mueller's appointment, I'd like to see Rosenstein asked the question about evidence/probable cause. Finally, given that they found ZERO Collusion, the biased nature of the team lends credibility to those findings, but if it had been the other way around, much of the public likely would not have believed them. A balanced and non-biased team is always better to lend credibility. In the end, they had ZERO credibility.

The fact that he said he made a mistake does not take away the guilt of his actions. He should be punished for his crime just as the others involved in "Obama-Gate' from top to bottom. The actions of these people in trying to remove President Trump from office over a charge that was totally fake is and will always be a black eye for our Nation. Just think about where we could be as a Nation if we had not spent so much money and time and forever damaged the reputations of countless people. They must pay for their crimes or we should dig up the bones of former President Nixon and ask for his forgiveness. (I know his soul is not in his body but I could not think of a better way to phrase it.)

As a physician, I was held legally responsible, thus legally reprehensible, for all the actions of those working under my supervision. If I signed a report that was incorrect, be it an uncorrected typo, a failure on my part to perceive an abnormality or to misinterpret one I found, or if the report was not acted on by the referring physician, I was guilty of malpractice under the doctrine of Captain of the Ship.

I suspect there are many others in other jobs and other professions who are also held responsible for the actions and failures of those working under their supervision, be that direct or indirect. And many have no doubt been held accountable, including criminally where criminal laws have been broken.

If those of us who actually make this country work by doing the necessary jobs, providing valuable gods and services, employing people, and paying taxes continue to be subjected to not only a more demanding and draconian set of laws and penalties than those making and enforcing the laws, our country will not survive. It's past time for Captain of the Ship principles to be applied to many former officials and likely some holdovers still in government.

Come November, we will again have the opportunity to give or withhold the consent of the governed. Let us work hard and pray that those who win those elections are both worthy and dedicated to rooting out the corruption and abuse that Mr. Rosenstein has been embedded in and in my view deeply complicit in.

In the meantime, let's support Mr. Barr and his trusted deputies as they work to uncover the malefactors and hopefully indict and convict and imprison them. High office should never serve as a shield against justice being done, though to date it has certainly shielded an inordinate number from the previous administration.

I don't like to appear cynical, however the Rosenstein testimony will not result in a single charge and he will walk into the sunset & a book deal. McCabe, Comey and the rest will also testify and not be charged of any crime even when the appear to be very guilty. the swamp members are above it all and exempt from criminal charges

The thief, the Prince and Power of the Air, must really be "ticked" off! His effort to destroy our America, Friend of Israel and God's most blessed nation, is like nothing I have witnessed in my life time!! His minions seem to have a playbook that never ends. They almost succeeded in destroying our USA after it's beginning and now, they pull every dirty, Godless trick in the book to finish the job! I see slue foot's foot prints all over things lately. The Blue Coup against our elected President was just the start, Makes me furious to watch what's happening with one crisis after another that seems to be tailor made to destroy us. The truth is being burred beneath the liberal media's twisting the news of the latest crisis to cover up their Lucifer romance! I think it's all aimed at installing their "Biden Puppet" in the White House in Jan. If God allows that to happen, and He may, Covid 19 will seem like a mild case of sore throat! God please have mercy on us! We need You back in your proper place and get back to "In God We Trust", NOT "in science we trust"!!!

Rosenstein proved himself to be incompetent and the Democrats continued to try to dismiss everything instead of facing the facts they are prejudice! I watched the entire hearing! I pray that people wake up & see the truth. The Democrats, rather than face the facts, tried to say this was a waste of time because they know they are wrong.

No good leader -- and certainly one WE THE PEOPLE depend on to BE a good leader in government matters --- leaves important matters to chance. He's a Champion Liar. WE all know that. He's trying to save his own skin while sacrificing the skins of his own coworkers. I'll be they love that.

These people who were in on all this should have to foot the bill for the impeachment. It is not right that we the people of the USA should have to spend our tax dollars for this, as well as have all the government tied up for years with something that was false from the very beginning!! Michael Flynn should be paid back all the money he had to spend to defend himself. His first lawyers should be disbarred!!

I watch these simpering, pandering fools come before the committee to lie. They were all deeply involved, everyone of them: Comey, McCabe, Rosenstein, Ohr, Clapper, as well as Strzok and Page, those "lovers" the President loves to reference. And we have to add Clinton, Obama, Pelosi, Schiff, Schumer and Nadler to the mix for directing this orchestra of discordant notes. They lie, they contradict themselves as well as others. And you have the cheerleaders Waters, Feinstein, Warren, Booker, Feinstein and Boxer. The whole orchestra is housed in the House, the Senate and across the USA as Governors and Mayors. How did we ever wind up with such a mess. I daresay all of their hands are dirty, all are guilty of the attempted coup that has been nonstop since before Trumps's election and inauguration and is continuing today. I hope the truth is revealed soon. The nation is restless, angry, frustrated and disgusted with all the pandering going, the double speak, and the posturing. This country is on the verge of an implosion and China, Iran, Russia and the Muslims are waiting patiently for it to happen.

They blame Donald Trump, our elected President, for this mess. But if you are cognizant enough to look around, the blanket of blame is not over the WH but over each one of these participants in the coup. I thank God for Durham and others, Barr and President Trump. I do not trust Wray. There is something about him I don't trust. I am sure his feet of clay will be revealed before this is over.

It amazes me that the problems we have in our country is having such a profound effect around the world. The riots and looting and all that goes with it is manifesting across the world. Truly I believe we can almost hear the sound of trumpets and the Four Horsemen galloping into position. I would not want to be one left behind after Christians are removed. And yet, there are many who love to see us vanquished, slaughtered and left in the streets.

I honestly don’t believe they will ever be held accountable. The republicans don’t have the backbone to get hold of something and follow through. Kind of discouraging to me as I registered as a Republican after the Kavanaugh debacle. We simply must hold them accountable.

Life in prison is too good for these corrupt scumbags. The angst they have put the country through with this. I wouldn't be surprised if the FBI, CIA, and DOJ are not involved in the China made and distributed virus as well as the current insanity going on. Tin foil hat stuff a few years ago, but very believable today. They have impeded Trump in his efforts to get the country going again after the Bush and Obama disasters. They have cost the taxpayers billions of dollars on phony investigations and lying through their teeth. Hang em. I'll bring the rope and make sure they are strung up slowly.

Everyone with 1 working brain cell knows this was a illegal, crooked set up from the get-go,at least those who are willing to admit it.If people do not go to jail for these treasonous acts, then what is the point of having a justice system in this country from here on if it's going to try and convict one party that has done absolutely nothing wrong and then not do anything with the other party who has done everything wrong??? My prayer is that all these questions were asked, having already known with black and white evidence, like emails and texts recovered from the cloud, and that everyone of these dirty cops get due justice according to the scales weighed out in heaven.
