June 12, 2018

I was anxiously awaiting the morning shows and headlines from the liberal media to see how they could possibly spin President Trump’s summit with Kim Jong-Un as a horrible, awful, no-good, very bad thing.  And they didn’t disappoint.  It seems that Trump failed by not calling out Kim on being a murderous, oppressive dictator to his face (they seem a bit unclear on the subtleties of negotiations).  He also didn’t get Kim to promise to empty his prisons and respect human rights (certainly the ultimate goal, but as they say, “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” and you first have to convince a killer to put down his gun before you can reform him.)  Then there’s the ever-popular, “Trump gave Kim what he wanted: legitimizing him by appearing next to him on the world stage.”

That’s odd, I thought these people spent the past 18 months “resisting” legitimizing Trump as America’s President.  Now, they think he’s so legitimate that his mere proximity causes legitimacy to rub off on those around him, like glitter off of Elton John’s dinner jacket.  This idea that a US President can’t talk to a tyrant because it might “legitimize” him is absurd.  How else do we deal with him?  Do we simply ignore his threats and refuse to speak to him?  That was the policy throughout the Obama years.  To quote Dr. Phil, “How did that work out for ya?”  News bulletin to Washington: you can’t solve problems you refuse to admit exist (See “national debt” and “Social Security and Medicare ‘trust funds.’”)

Commentary continues below advertisement

I seriously doubt anyone is rushing to market cuddly Kim Jong-Un Beanie Baby dolls.  We all know what he is.  The point of the meeting was to see if he can change.  If not, we’ll have to deal with him in harsher ways, and Trump made it clear he’s well aware of that fact.  Meanwhile, how many of Trump’s critics were equally outraged over Obama “legitimizing” some of the awful leaders he did opt to deal with, like the Muslim Brotherhood-backed President of Egypt, the mullahs of Iran, or the Castros in Cuba?  Or Hillary Clinton's meetings with Vladimir Putin?  Or Bill Clinton’s Secretary of State Madeleine Albright meeting with Kim’s father, Kim Jong Il? As Mike Rowe would say, dealing with these high-placed lowlifes is a dirty job, but “somebody’s gotta do it.”  At least Trump approached this tyrant from a position of strength instead of with a no-strings-attached planeload of money.

The unrelenting attacks even on a day like this remind me of a great comment I saw on a story on the Internet. Someone wrote that Trump could end all war and cure cancer, and the New York Times would respond with an article about the suffering of unemployed undertakers.

I really love your observations and your superb writings covering it in detail. No wonder your daughter Sarah is doing such a great job as WH Press Secretary, as she has a great dad that installed his unique technique in her. Thanks for being such a great public personality. Love your show and you.

Well said. I think Trump did what he needed to do for the first of hopefully several meetings with Kim
This will be a long process. He's got it headed in the right direction. It goes back to the old saying "Baby steps, got to take baby steps to get BIG things done RIGHT!!!

I loved your left sentence! He can't do anything right. I do not understand why the left and the Democrats want our country to fail. Are they too stupid to realize that it will hurt them the same as the Republicans? I pray every day for you, our President and his family and the few good guys that are left. You have your work cut out for you.
    Stay safe.
    Shirley :)

It is sad that our great country has been slowly infiltrated by AntiAmerican hate filled Libetal Globalists who have almost taken over the Main stream media and is using that platform to try to destroy our country by constantly pushing their false narratives and bullying propaganda tactics. George Soros is doing all he can to weaken our country from within. But God has appointed President Trump to be our President for this given place and time to show the world that Nothing happens without God knowing. Trump needs to stay focus on peace for the world and stay the course of his “America FIRST!” Agenda. He has really surprised me with his calm cool headed demeanor despite his stupid twitter tweets. I voted for Trump and will again in 2020, but there are things I don’t agree with him on. Trump has accomplished amazing things regardless of the constant resistance in and out if Congress. What happens now with North Korea is up to Leader if North Korea. One can only hope and pray that he is tired of being isolated and he wants prosperity for North Korea and his people. Only God knows.

someone please tell Shepherd Smith that his intense dislike of our president, was so evident on his show today(june 12) in his commentary of The meeting between the president and Kim, not only his words, but his facial expressions . I only watch Fox news because they are fair
and balanced, even the liberals. but Shepherd was totally off base today, disgusting.

You can't really expect the Democrats to admit they were wrong about Trump. There are not enough eggs in the country to cover their faces.

You are so right! It’s about time our boys come home from Korea! We’ve been there training and supporting too long! Time for that country to unite and work out their problems. Pres. Trump has started a plan for that action! God bless him with more strength!

Dear Governor Huckabee, I agree with your commentary 1000%. If Donald Trump calls off the meeting with Kim Jong Un he's a loser. If Donald Trump meets with Kim Jong Un and gets him to denuclearization agreement, he's giving away the Farm.
If Donald Trump made the waters part, found a cure for cancer, and handed every American a million dollars, they'd say he wasn't conserving water, he was accepting a cure which wasn't completely vetted, and that he was only throwing small change to Americans, while Wall Street got richer. Can't please mentally charged socialist snowflakes.

Mike I know this is long but...
Incident 1: This morning, our grandchildren were laughing hysterically as they quoted a tv program they watched recently where "the kid" said he knew three bad words: Booger, Dumb and Trump. So while I'm relieved that the word booger still gets a laugh I'm also "dumb" struck at what I just heard. Can you imagine if that had been said about our previous president?! IN A SITCOM!?
They both were receptive to a chat on respecting whoever is in office and that we're free to dislike a President's policies but not to attack him personally. But 5 yr old JJ looked confused so I asked him, "How would you like it if someone didn't like your sister and said there's three bad words: booger, dumb and Miya?" He said he'd be super mad and I said, now you get how hurtful it is! WHY AM I HAVING TO DO THIS?!

Incident 2: Last week at JJ's baseball game Miya said that her teacher said Trump was a bad President because he was trying to build a wall to keep out Mexicans. Dave tried to balance that with, the wall was to keep illegal people who mean us harm from coming into our country not anyone else.* Again, since when does a 5th grade teacher feel free to "teach" personal opinions about a current president? (my own theory is that the left has so emboldened "their people" they don't think these are opinions anymore but facts.)

This is a plea to pray for our nation regardless how you feel about Mr. Trump. Would you consider each night when you say your family blessings include our president, our leaders, our freedoms, our COMMON sense, and our nation's spiritual condition?

You can stop reading now because the rest is just my soap box.

I'll be the first one to admit President Trump is no shining example of character but my goodness, no one deserves the constant, hateful onslaught of attacks he's facing. Don't we want our kids to learn that you pray for those who need God not attack them to death?

Today, as a small push back attempt, I showed my grandkids a video of President Trump honoring a man who found the Lord in prison by reading a bible/ listening to Christian radio. President Trump is his awkward self and in no way am I saying he's a regenerated man but he at least is willing to acknowledge the power of prayer and lift up the name of God and the bible. And at least recognizes and even seems to admire men of faith even if he isn't one. (YET! we are praying he submits to the Lord and the whole world sees the change.)

Let's hasten that day w/ our intercession and until it arrives, that God Himself will stop the media onslaught of unproductive ridicule and unjust criticism. That God would also give Donald Trump the ability to hear valid criticism that will help him govern in wisdom, grace and truth. Give him a spirit of humility Lord, that changes him for the better and softens his heart to surround himself with the wisest counsel available and heed the sound advice he is given.

You know the Bible tells us that there is no reasoning with unreasonable men. I feel liberal democrats are very unreasonable. Most of the time they make no sense and you will wear yourself out trying to make them see reason.
I'm pretty sure there is nothing our President Trump could do that would ever win the Dems over because they have a retarded mindset that just will not accept reality.

I certainly feel that President Trump is more worthy of the Nobel Prize for his efforts with N. Korea than Obama ever was, just for being the 1st black president! What else did he have going for him, when he was awarded the prize?! For crying out loud, he had b)barely become President when he got the Award!! ):

You are 100% correct.. I posted almost the same sentiments. This is just the beginning of the peace talks. And if Trump cured cancer they would scream about the unemployed cancer doctors. And Trump even said he's going into this with his eyes wide open. But peace is worth the effort

The last line of your article says it all. The Democrats will not be satisfied until they have destroyed Donald Trump. They think because they elected a black president who nobody could criticize or risk being called racist, that they can continue to play their game. I pray that there are enough sane people left in this country that they will not let them win again with these tactics.

You couldn't be more correct about the media if you wanted to be. The remark about the

Amen to that! The libs and the left will never be happy. I work with a lady who denigrates Trump every day. How will she act when Trump is re-elected in 2020? How successful does Trump have to be before he gets credit from the left?

I think you hit it right on the head
I think it was rather embarrassing for a CNN interview with Dennis Rodman to ask him 3 times .. Does he speak English? Dennis poured his heart out and that was his only question. I think it put CNN over the top to see the hat on ... Make American Great.. so Closed minded on anything Trump tries to do

I knew it! It is totally impossible for these deranged people to find the good in anything. They make no sense. I can hardly wait for Pelosi, Schumer, Waters enlightened comments. I need a good laugh today. This man has pulled of a virtual miracle, if Kim complies. You can’t get everything at one time. The libs are so concerned about people that they do not care that they are employed and that minorities are coming up the economy. How long before said minorities stop listening to their leaders who have made a stellar living off of victimhood. These people are looking like fools but the liberals I know simply will not get past his crass conduct. Of course, Johnson , the Kennedy’s, and Bill are just fine because “they cared”. What is wrong with these people? Do I wish that the president would clean up his act? Of course. But you don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. The likes of CNN and MSNBC have a lot to answer for. Oh, yes, let’s throw in the NYT and TWP.

I remember how scared the free world was when President Reagan called the USSR the Evil Empire. We were sure Russia would press that button and start the war to end all wars--and life on this planet. Watching President Trump and Kim Jung Un sign an agreement towards peace was so reminiscent of watching the Berlin Wall come down to cheers of thousands! The Singapore meeting was historic. I am Canadian,(sorry), but wish we had a leader like DJT, who actually works on behalf of his people--and has accomplished so much despite an unprecedented amount of opposition from the MSM, the left, and even some in his own party!

I saw the interview with Dennis Rodman this morning with CNN commentator. Was moved on how emotional he was. He seems to know Kim Jong Un better than anyone. I am optimistic that this will go well for the world, especially for the people of North Korea. I hope in time Kim will learn democracy and capitalism is a far better way of life. War is a means to an end, Peace is harder to achieve but so much more rewarding.

  • Edith Peters

    06/12/2018 12:50 PM

Just the fact that Trump could get Kim Jong Un to meet with him is amazing! This is the breakthru that has been needed. And, if Kim follows true on his promise to get rid of all the nuclear weapons, then a huge amount has been accomplished for the whole world. I expect that other good changes will come in time. After all, no one wins the long jump the first time they do it.
I appreciate the way, Mike, that you present political news. Your sense of humor and good common sense help me to understand what is actually happening and not feel despair about so much that is reported in our country today.

Very sad but true. Watching live coverage on NBC this morning via Internet. I had to change. Started watching Brietbart. They were showing the video, that the President made reference. On NBC, Andrea Mitchell was derogatory, some other guy was wild. Lester Holt was the only voice of reason, saying can't we just agree it is an historic day.
