It seems as if all of Hollywood is rushing to the cameras and their Twitter accounts to express shock and outrage at the behavior of Harvey Weinstein and the general atmosphere of sexual exploitation in Hollywood. But as this article reminds us, their dismay seems a bit disingenuous, considering many of these outspoken crusaders were the very same people who gave an Oscar and a standing ovation to Roman Polanski, a director who fled the US to evade punishment for drugging and sodomizing a 13-year-old girl.

You might recall, at the time, Whoopi Goldberg (whom I like and admire, even if we greatly disagree on most issues, especially this one) suggested that it wasn’t “’rape’-rape” (to be precise, you might prefer calling it “child rape,” but that’s hardly better.) And as the linked story notes, actresses Natalie Portman, Tilda Swinton and Emma Thompson were among those who signed a petition urging Switzerland not to extradite Polanski to the US to face justice. Thompson, who just spoke out against Weinstein, was asked about that and admitted she signed it “without really thinking about it...I had been absolutely bamboozled by my respect for his art.” Seriously? I think if you'd let someone's talent at making a movie blind you to his crimes of child rape, you probably shouldn't be lecturing anyone else about morality.

Maybe if she had thought about it, she would have smelled a rat when the leader of the petition drive called his admitted act of child rape a “so-called crime.” And guess who was the leader of that petition drive? Here’s a clue: his initials are “H.W.”

They praised the late Hugh Hefner also...but condemned Weinstein...who lived the Hefner "women as disposable toys" lifestyle.

What do you expect from such superficial people? Their whole existence is skin deep. There are still a few left in Hollywood with morals and fortitude, but not many. Sad.

Not surprising; the industry has been corrupt from the very beginning. As long as the money keeps flowing in, they look the other way. I, personally, would not want to be part of an industry that subjected me to unwanted advances from creepy old men, and it is inexcusable that all of this has been covered up for so long. The real question is - if Harvey has been doing this for decades, why are his sins being exposed now?

now the libs are comparing the women accusing Trump to the women accusing HW and asking what's the difference? Maybe false claims? Also they bring up Anita Hill, really? Might be good for you to set the record straight on these. Oh, and they don't have much to say about Bill Clinton.

Wow, I am saving so much money by avoiding the movies and not supporting the so-called artists of film! My list of the libtards keeps getting longer and longer. Maybe they need to dig out the Wicked Queen's mirror and ask it, "Who is the fairest of them all?" They might be surprised.

I totally agree with what Anne said earlier especially the part about people that actually worked their butts off to prove their worth. Sure we can all sit around and complain about how bad this group or that group has it but until those particular groups do something POSITIVE about what is happening, nothing gets done. Just a bunch of hypercritical pointed finger comebacks. Bitterness, hatefulness, and resentment are not the way to change anything. And the so-called Hollywood and athletic overpaid crybabies and the mind-numbing media realize that when it comes to slavery one must actually look in the mirror because the bible does say spiritually we can become a slave to sin. In other words, what rules you? Is it hatred, gossip, hypocrisy? Well, then you become a slave to that. There have been many people over the years that were slaves but they broke out of that bondage. I really don't see Hollywood, the media or anyone that makes millions of dollars from the freedom so richly given to them by our troops, ever realize it all begins with what reflects back to the image they see reflected. It begins there.

Hollywood is only concerned with money and could care less what it does to get that money. When you consider their products that show dead bodies everywhere, graphic violence, indiscriminate sex, and foul language, it's no wonder people today (like our stellar NFL players) are acting the way they are. Great role models for kids!

Anyone who thinks "movie stars" and the like are qualified scholars whose opinions are not to be questioned but accepted as gospel will fall for anything....their "celebrity status" doesn't grant them immunity from stupidity...

These "personalities" have no idea what it is to respect our country. How many of them have volunteered to serve in the military as did many of the stars of yester year? They are a bunch of paper lions.

Artists are a peculiar group, who exist in a surreal environment that simultaneously applauds and devours them. They feel superior to the average citizen, because of their rebellious and edgy temperaments. Once upon a time it required courage to depart from traditional mores. Nowadays, pretty much everything Hollywood does reveals how out of touch most artists are with reality. I think the harsh, perverse world of the casting couch requires an actor to shut down emotionally just to survive.

The whole media industry oozes the message of free sex from every infected pore of their work, and then they have the temerity to blame one guy. They should all apologize and repent. Not holding my breath for that, though.

I will, however, grieve for their souls. That I can do.

These people are gag producing. They may have entertainment value, as Emma certainly does, but what makes them an authority on anything else? I blame the gullibility of the public and the false idolization of the publicity seeking gods. These are spoiled people who have heard how wonderful they are too many times. The sAme goes for the athletes who are too stupid to understand what they are doing to the hand that feeds them. Slavery was a horrible institution, for which h there is no mitigating factor. But some need to remember that other suffered bigotry early on, that Irish escaping famine, the Chinese building our railroads, the Jews who endure continuing anti semitism, and the Japanese in concentration camps. Oh, let's not forget Catholics in the South. What did these people do? They Put on their big girl and boy pants and worked their butts off to successfully prove their worth
