Evening Edition - April 7

A PAINFUL LESSON

Some of us have been sounding the alarm for a long time about the dangers of outsourcing American manufacturing to China. It’s not just due to the loss of American jobs, but also trusting one of our top adversaries with supplying us with needed materials of all sorts, not the least of which is medicines. There’s also another downside that many US companies didn’t foresee, and that’s the foolishness of trusting an authoritarian communist government to deal fairly with capitalist Americans.

Some of those companies are now learning a painful lesson. For instance, China imported nearly 2.5 billion epidemic prevention and control materials in January and February. But when 3M and Honeywell tried to export things like booties, gloves and N95 face masks from their factories in China to the US, China blocked them from doing it.

A senior White House official said this kind of attempt to hoard and corner the market on these materials during a worldwide pandemic (started by China, I might add, whether the US media like it or not) is tantamount to first-degree murder.

And while China claims that it’s doing everything possible to help fight the disease worldwide, a bit of laughable propaganda that the New York Times allowed to appear on its op-ed pages, where you will never find a positive word about our own President…

…the kind and benevolent Beijing government is reportedly forcing hard-hit Italy to pay to buy back (not even all, but some of) the personal protective equipment that Italy donated to China just months ago. This story also has some details about how much of the Chinese-made materials to fight the virus that were exported are being found to be faulty.

And like good leftists everywhere, the Chinese government never lets a crisis go to waste, as evidenced by the report that they tried to extort the French government to agree to give the Chinese company Huawei its 5G wireless market in exchange for medical supplies.

None of this should come as a surprise to anyone who’s watched China for the last 50 or so years. Putting aside the obvious examples, like the Tiananmen Square massacre and the crackdown on Hong Kong, I recall reading years ago about a small private company that learned the hard way. If I remember correctly, it made some sort of proprietary hair care appliance. Moving their factory to China saved money on labor…but in no time at all, the trademarked design of the product was stolen and cheap knockoffs were being cranked out in another factory at prices that undercut the real thing. Guess what the Chinese authorities did about that. The owner moved his factory back to Texas, poorer but wiser, but he still couldn’t do anything to stop the pirating of his product.

Too bad none of the reporters who daily attack and blame President Trump for the current Made-In-China crisis listened to what he was actually saying when he ran in 2016 on a platform of stopping China from lying, cheating and ripping us off. They were too busy scouring every word he said for “racist dog whistles” to notice that he was trying to warn them that a pit bull was mauling their backsides.

HOW SOME PEOPLE VIEW THIS CRISIS

Some people are so locked into a particular mindset that everything they see is filtered through it. The coronavirus scare is something that should be a great equalizer: while it is harder on the elderly, it can strike anyone of any age, race, gender or nationality. The virus doesn’t care about the color, shape or geographical location of your body. Yet people who obsess over those issues just can’t recognize that we’re all in this together and sharing equal risk.

We’ve seen people try to claim that it’s harder on certain races (AOC wants virus reparations), or that it’s a feminist issue because more women work in health care so they face greater risk of contracting it (even though more men die from it.) But this one really takes the cake, and I mean that literally:

Two professors whose obsession is fighting “fat phobia” are outraged that anyone would tell people to eat healthy when they’re cooped up inside and unable to get out and exercise. In their view, eating to cope with trauma is natural, and telling people that it’s dangerous to overeat and gain weight during self-quarantines feeds into fat phobia and is abusive and oppressive. Incidentally, If you catch COVID-19, you have a better chance of surviving it if you’re healthy and not obese, but I don’t want to oppress anyone by telling them the truth.

It’s astounding that even in the face of a worldwide threat to all humanity, some people can only see their own pet micro-aggressions. Sorry, professors, but to put it terms you can understand, the rest of us have bigger fish to fry at the moment.

HERE'S A STUNNER

The State Department has sided with Judicial Watch, agreeing that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton cannot dodge answering questions in a court deposition about the Benghazi attack by citing her previous office. I’m sure this is all predicated on purely legal grounds, and not on the fact that she acted above the law, broke the rules and gave the State Department a black eye. But I’ll bet that didn’t make them any more inclined to bend the rules to help her.

TUESDAY FAKE NEWS

Yes, CNN, the White House DOES have a plan for rapidly distributing ventilators and other medical equipment when they’re needed. As Matt Vespa at Townhall.com notes, if CNN’s anchors actually watched the daily press briefings instead of cutting away from them to bash Trump, maybe they would have known that.

On the other hand, here’s a fact-check that turned out to be true. President Trump asked a hostile reporter, “Who do you work for, China?” As it turns out, why, yes, she does.

REMEMBER OUR SENIORS

One of the toughest things about all this self-isolating is the toll it takes on seniors, many of whom were already coping with feelings of loneliness and isolation that have only gotten worse. If you have elderly relatives or know of a local organization to help seniors, I hope you’ll consider volunteering. Even just calling on the phone to chat for a while can be the highlight of the day for someone who feels alone and forgotten.

And now, here’s a very sweet story about what a 92-year-old husband in Israel did to help make sheltering-in-place more tolerable for his wife of 67 years.

On the subject of people helping others through the current crisis, check out these inspiring photos. They’ll help wash away some of the scariness, divisiveness and negativity that the media thrive on.

TWEET OF THE DAY

The Democrats’ Mount Rushmore of “experts.”

WE NEED THIS

I think we could all use some laughs, especially in dark times. So here’s Dave Barry on avoiding the coronavirus.

    Dear Mike,
I watch your show faithfully! You had my vote for president.
I hope you will respond to my email!!! I was very disappointed in your comment in your evening edition in which you disagree with the shutting down of the economy. I am hoping for an explanation as to your logic pertaining to that particular comment.
Would you rather have allowed massive amounts of people to die?
    Please explain!
Thank You and Have a Wonderful Evening,
    Darlene

This should give all the American companies a wake up call. Maybe now they will think about moving their businesses back to America and forget about the greed for money and cheap labor.

There will be so many lessons to be learned from this entire Coronovirus event. I think several lessons should already be obvious. First and foremost, I believe God is trying to wake up our Nation and any other country in the world who hasn't foolishly rejected God and Jesus Christ. Our Nation has its own sins, like abortion, legalized same sex marriage, greed, moral decline, etc. And that is why 2 Chronicles 7:14 is such an important daily prayer that believers need to pray. Secondly, our country has to stop doing business with China if we truly want to make and keep America great. Thirdly, the Democrats and the mainstream media our truly enemies of the American people. There will be many more lessons to be learned or hopefully learned from all that we have experienced from the time Trump was a candidate right up to and including this terrible pandemic.

The theft of our social security fund by the Democrat controlled Congress and LBJ has bothered me for quite a while. The government did not put a dime into the fund that President Roosevelt decreed was untouchable. Now that so many people are not working and therefore not contributing to the fund will cause more debt to keep ss solvent. It's past time that the money is put back into the fund and left alone to draw interest for our children and grandchildren. Cut foreign aid and fund it.

You know CNN and others must think their followers are too dumb to see the presidents briefings. How sad and disrespectful to their followers. Hey CNN, your followers are smart enough to make up their own minds, is that what you are afraid of?

If we find that China didn't intentionally spread this virus around the world - and somehow managing to not infect their own country outside of Wuhan - I'll be absolutely shocked. This is biological warfare. But we're Americans, and one nation under God (and that last part the Chinese don't understand), so I'm rejoicing in the Lord. It's win-win. If I live, I can tell a few more people about Jesus, and if I die - I'm Home in Jesus' presence forever. What's not to like about that?!!

Governor, love your newsletter. Your insightful perspective and wry humor are at once informative and endearing. That being said, I'm afraid that, as invaluable a resource as it is, you, as well as Fox News, CNN, MSDNC, etc. (forgive me for including you in the same sentence) are preaching to your respective choirs. Would it not be effective for any given conservative PAC to publish open letters or ads rebutting the ubiquitous propaganda of the Left in such publications as the Washington Post or the New York Times. Aren't they required to publish notices that are paid for? It's a shame that such a high percentage of the country is satisfied with being lied to (let's see, how many voted for Hillary again?). The problem seems to be that they're simply not exposed to the truth. If anyone could deliver a counterpoint truth bomb to a place it would hurt the most, it would be you. Am I missing something?

Some of our companies have, in the past, sent whole factories to China for the cheaper labor. Some of our necessary supplies are sourced from China instead of making them here. At best, all those who advocated and worked for this situation are, at best, merely naïve to the nth degree. At worst, merely treasonous beyond measure.

Please tell the President if you can to tell the reporters at the daily meetings when they ask their questions over and over day after day this. "YOU KNOW WHAT I DID, NOW TELL ME WHAT YOU WOULD DO OR HAVE DONE". Don't let them get away with out answering that question. Tell them they should know what I did.

Big companies knew who they were dealing with and China did too. The past administrations have "cuddled" up to China over many issues all in the name of "can't we just get along". Their aim, as other countries, was/is to bring America to her knees. They have done it over the years. They bought and paid for politicians, big pharma, big corporations. The root of it of course is always love of money. Therefore, cheap labor and oppressing their own people to deliver. There was a time that I remember that China's "favorite nation" status was paused. Looking back, that was just a smack on the hands so to speak. America has not had clean hands either. God help us all! We better pray. That is the best and only hope we have!!!

This is NOT Swine Flu, Spanish Flu or The Plague. People who are immunocompromised or have serious medical/health problems are at risk. Hydroxychloroquinine cocktail WORKS. Now, what do people NOT understand about Communism? For Communism, there is NO GOD. Therefore, there is no reason to act morally. Communism is savage, disregarding the God-given dignity of the Human person. Therefore, anything goes. A "person" is only a tool. Perhaps a meal. After all, some Chinese will eat human fetuses. But Communism is an excuse to do whatever one can get away with for personal greed. Hence, creating the pandemic, with their own defense mechanisms already prepared, refusing the medicines they produce, hoarding Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and holding the world hostage. If the other nations of the world do nothing in response to this, they -- we -- are begging for another catastrophe when China feels threatened by economic challenge. Some political systems refuse to act humanely: Communism, Socialism and Liberalism. No conscience. Greed. Lawlessness. Pray for America! Pray for President Trump! We must put on our own oxygen mask before we help others with theirs! God Bless America! God Shore-Up President Trump! M.A.G.A!

I hate to compare Trump to Christ but the left's liberal media and politicians are so blinded by their hatred of Trump that they only see what they deem as bad and not the good. They only see Trump a threat to their lifestyle and agenda.
When Christ walked the earth the Priests, Scribes and Pharisees saw Christ as a threat to their lifestyle and agenda. They measured Him up to their interpretation of the laws and tried to trip him up according to that.

    To counter China:
Sell ALL stock in US companies with ties to China who want to remain in China ( save Tesla?)
Or those RX PPE firms who remain in China sell stock
& sell stock in Chinese owned firms like Huwai alone
    Run on Chinese stock alone.
    Boost economy alone
