Now that the Palestinians have their own Representatives in the US Congress, there seem to be at least three or four stories a day related to that. It’s hard to keep up with the torrent of anti-Israel news coming out of the House, but this link will help you catch up.
In a nutshell (emphasis on “nuts”), we learned that Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar do think it’s their job to represent “the Palestinian people” (odd, I could have sworn they were elected to represent the voters in their respective districts; maybe those folks should look into getting someone else for that job)…that they compared Israel to apartheid-era South Africa while the co-founder of the BDS movement they’re pushing hard recently compared Israel to the Nazis…that Omar and Tlaib had the chance to travel to Israel earlier this month with a 70-member bipartisan Congressional delegation and meet with members of the government, but that wasn’t good enough; they wanted to go separately so they could get maximum publicity while attacking Israel from within…and the itinerary for their aborted trip was planned by Miftah, an anti-Semitic group that supports Palestinian terrorism against Jews and has pushed the standard anti-Semitic trope that Jewish money controls the world.
Oh, and Omar is calling on Congress to defund Israel for not letting her visit. I think we now have a new yardstick for measuring “chutzpah.”
All that, and it’s only Tuesday!
Meanwhile, how are Democratic leaders – who look at President Trump and patriotic Americans who voted for him and see nothing but white supremacists and neo-Nazis – reacting to having actual, outspoken, Jew-hating anti-Semites in their own midst? They’re circling the wagons to support them, naturally.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who seems incapable of comprehending that no nation is under a moral obligation to let people cross its borders who want to destroy it, wrote a letter condemning Israel for not letting Tlaib and Omar come in and spread their poison. Other Congressional Democrats are talking about retaliatory action against Israel’s ambassador. This would reportedly start with requesting an investigation by the State Department’s Inspector General. That would require the Trump State Department agreeing. I feel pretty certain there’s a better chance of Jerry Nadler being invited to Mar-a-Lago for a Bernie Sanders fundraiser.
Let’s hope the President informs them of the good news that it’s not necessary for Omar, Tlaib and their deluded Democrat supporters to travel all the way to the Middle East. They can just pound sand right here.
