Happy Valentine’s Day! All you men who are panicking at those words had better get to buying flowers, candy and cards and making dinner reservations. Don’t worry, I’ll be here when you get back. For the rest of you, here’s an interesting article about the origins of Valentine’s Day (there really was a Saint Valentine, who lived around 270 A.D.) and some of the famous holiday traditions. There are also some useful tips, like the most common mistake people make when buying flowers, and the three easiest dishes to make at home to impress your Valentine. And I'll toss in one of my own: don't make those dinner reservations at McDonald's.

Also, if you’re looking for a perfect photo to share with your Valentine on social media, check out these two swans at a rescue center in England, forming a heart shape with their long, graceful necks.

After a few days of public name-calling, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo actually met with President Trump on Thursday to talk about the Administration’s decision to remove New Yorkers from Global Entry and several other Trusted Traveler Programs that let people avoid long lines when returning from abroad.

Cuomo has been railing that it was political retribution and trying to paint it as a personal attack by Trump on New York with nefarious racist intentions. In fact, it was done because the databases to insure travelers are allowed in the US legally and don’t have criminal records are based on state drivers’ license records – and New York recently started giving licenses to undocumented immigrants and blocking the feds from seeing their state motor vehicle database with the necessary background information.

In short, the state expects federal agencies entrusted with guarding national security to have as little regard for who someone is and whether they’re in America legally or not as New York liberal Democrats do.

Not unexpectedly, there were no breakthroughs in the meeting, although Cuomo signaled a willingness to compromise a little by restoring federal access to driving records “on a limited basis.” Which is useless, not just because it’s limited but because having a New York drivers’ licenses will still be no guarantee that someone has the legal right to be in America at all. And he’s still vowing that “If they think they're going to extort New York into giving them a database of undocumented people, they're wrong. I will never do that."

It’s a welcome development to see Cuomo at least putting aside the overheated rhetoric for an hour and having a White House meeting with Trump “as if he’s the President.” But if he expects Trump to compromise on national security, I think he’s barking up the wrong tree. Gov. Cuomo needs to realize that as chief executive of his state, it’s his sworn duty to faithfully execute the laws, not to aid and abet people who violate them. His government’s indulgence for lawbreakers is already causing a spike in crime in New York, and President Trump is absolutely correct to hold firm in refusing to allow the contagion to spread to the federal level.

It's too bad all New Yorkers have to pay for the stubbornness and bad policies of their politicians. But if you elect people who refuse to take their jobs seriously and respect federal law, then go stand in the back of the line.

Considering that Joe Biden’s hopes for staying alive in the Presidential race rest on turning out black voters for him in South Carolina, I can’t help thinking that his strategy for appealing to them wasn’t very well thought out. He’s running an ad that’s mostly positive until it suddenly takes a negative turn and tries to paint President Trump as a racist and America as a nation where black people are struggling to survive. He also repeats the same quote from the Rev. James Cleveland (“I ain’t no ways tired”) that Hillary Clinton famously used in 2007 and that caused her to be roundly mocked and accused of racist pandering (as Joe now is, by Deroy Murdock.)

And who thought it was a good idea to include that photo of the so-called “cages” at the border? I know Democrats love to blame Trump for those (actually, they are detention facilities, not “cages”), but did nobody on Joe’s staff think anyone would point out the fact that they were actually built under the Obama/Biden Administration?

If Biden wants to appeal to black voters, I’d think the last thing he’d want to do is ask them to think about how things are going for them now (wages rising, black and black youth unemployment and black poverty rates all at record lows) and vote to go back to the way things were when Obama was President. Here’s a thought: try appealing to black voters by telling them how he’s going to improve things for Americans of all races, instead of trying to frighten them by saying the other guy is a racist and wants to “put y’all back in chains” (one of his previous unfortunately quotes.) Except that would require policies that would actually improve on what’s already working. This is why we get demagoguery, pandering and race-baiting: because that’s easy and actually improving people’s lives is hard.

California recently passed a law called AB5 that its “progressive” sponsors say is designed to help contract workers. But as Ronald Reagan once pointed out, one of the three biggest lies ever is, “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help you.” By mandating union-style work conditions for everyone, they’re forcing contract workers out of business all over the state, devastating everyone from Uber drivers to artists and musicians to work-at-home moms and freelance writers.

But there could be a silver lining. For years, Californians have been reflexively voting for leftist politicians, who have been driving the Golden State into the ground and driving middle class business owners to move to other states. But independent and artistic types just kept on electing far-left Democrats, blind to the destruction they’re causing because they never connected all the homeless people, filth, crime, blackouts, wildfires, lack of affordable housing, etc., to the insane policies of the people they kept electing.

But now, as Erica Sandberg at City Journal reports, these independent contract types are suddenly having a Damascus Road experience. They’ve had the heavy boot of dumb leftist government come down on them, and they’re getting “woke” in a whole new way. AB5 is such a terrible, awful, no good, very bad law that’s destroying so many people’s livelihoods that these reliably kneejerk Democratic voters are suddenly turning into Independents, Republicans and Libertarians in droves.

Could AB5 possibly be the fuse that finally starts a revolution to turn California red? That might be too much to hope for, but it’s an exciting thought. In the meantime, as you’re still pondering who to vote for in the November elections for Congress and the White House, bear this in mind: Democrats in the House are already pushing a national version of AB5, to “help you”… into the poor house.

I think every democrat should be sent to a communist country to live for a year to fend for themselves. (Since that is what they really want!) No support allowed, no internet, only a landline for local use shared by the community, arriving with only two sets of clothes, and definitely no special treatment! The extra clothes will probably be stolen immediately. Stick them in the middle of nowhere! If they survive after a year, they may appreciate America. If they still do not appreciate our country, send them back or to another communist place around the world. I do not think a bunch of hot air coming out of their mouths will help them there!!!

Poor Joe, is so far out of touch with how to do it that he won't. he nor any other on the left has ANY clue as to how to improve the lives of blacks. What is so tragic, they don't care, it's all talk and no action since 1964. 56 years . Tons of them out there, weren't even BORN in 1964! I am convinced that works like "fix ", "improve" "amplify" are not in the vocabulary of the left. All they have is "tax", eliminate," "cancel" etc. and Joe wants the black vote? Really? He is needing some concepts like I just mentioned. As Bongino says "Stick a fork in him, he's done"

What can we say abut CA insanity? Well ABS may have been what was needed to wake them up. I still contend the DOJ and national guard need to go in and get rid of Newsom and his henchmen. That is a crime ridden state and they prove it every day. I have the solution for all the filth in SF but i'll be nice.

Would you please tell me how Cuomo....or anyone else in this U.S.of A...could even begin to expect President Trump to compromise on NATIONAL security when the EVIL (there's that "melodramatic" word again ) IN this U.S. of A that has now so permeated our society that we have to keep increasing our HOME security!

None of us who were brought up in the 1950's ever dreamed that, one day, the violence of hatred would so permeate our country of "peace" that we would need police "security" in our schools and, of ALL places, in our churches!

Years ago, my beloved, late, David Wilkerson, "prophesied" that we ( here in America) were going to lose a WHOLE GENERATION OF KIDS and we ARE!!! Again, those of us who were brought up in the '50's, never dreamed that we would have to worry that we might get shot in school or have a classmate that wound up doing hard crack cocaine, or heroine...and die of an overdose!!!

Our kids no longer dream dreams because they longer SEE the "American Dream" we saw because OUR American Dream has now become our American our kids look to drugs to, if only briefly, escape the reality OF this nightmare!

And, since Christendom has...along with the mockery they've made of Christ's UNCONDITIONAL love....made a mockery of TRUE "prophesy" is why I put that word in quotation marks when I used it in reference TO the late David Wilkerson because if ANY man, in our era, could claim to BE a prophet it was David Wilkerson because he so shared our Lord's heart that he shared our Lord's tears over the evil in our country!!! David Wilkerson knew that TRUE prophets WEEP, they do NOT have FUN as some of our modern -day "prophets" have so claimed that they do, thereby MAKING a mockery of what it means to BE a the Lord CAN use as HIS mouthpiece BECAUSE that one SHARES His heart!!!

Do you know that there is an increase of volcanic activity in the 21st century? More that the 20th or the 19th century. Look at the info. of the past of 19th , 20th & 21st century volcanic activity records of the past. They wander why know will compare ocean temperature and weather records to show how these records co inside with each other. What I see in what I have collected that they match pretty close. We need to really consider these consistences. It is better than Car Exhaust. Lava is a lot hotter than the green house effect theory. Especially when there is more under ocean volcanic activity in that area where the water is hotter that starts the Hurricanes which there are more of. Thank You!

    Hi to Gov. Mike,
I just had to contact you this evening before I got into bed!! It is very, very cold here in the middle west tonight!! When we got up this AM, and I got the two "girls" ready to go outside it was 8AM, and Lavonne, my wife found out it was just about -2 degrees!!! Yes, only some -2 degrees!! So, got my warmest coat on, and I got our two girls, Dolly and Dottie ready to go outside as we usually do! We got out to the barn, and it was so rigid …...yes, very , very cold, but Chatabunga was ready for his oats!! We got him some hay, and we got him some oats!!He was much more content then!! He then was so much more content then got content after he got some oats down into his tummy!! Then after that....I got some kitty food and I gave the kitties two different kinds of kittie food, and in the very cold morning they then ran over to their food dishes and ate breakfast!!……..Then I got the two pooches rounded up and came back into the house! Everyone was happy !!…….God Bless you, Dr. Bob

I doubt that it would make much difference in California what the government does, they will not be voting for any other than their insane progressive nitwits that run the state and are running it into the ground. There are several "bond" issues on the ballot again as well and those will probably pass as well, after all, we Californians never saw a tax we didn't like.

As a native Californian, I too have been effected negatively by AB5, however if it will wake up the left, change their vote to the Party that has created 7 million new jobs in the last three years, has American industry back in America, creating the lowest unemployment for the African American communities ever and stood up to foreign enemies, as opposed to apologizing , then it's well worth the financial inconvenience of AB5 to me.

As always Governor another excellent read. I have a question that many people fumble around to answer. Bernie Sanders is a registered independent, although he caucuses with the Democrats, how can the Democratic Party pick him as their presidential candidate, which I don’t think will happen, but if he does make it that far, how can they nominate him if he does not belong to the Democratic Party

As you said it is a good idea that "New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo actually met with President." Even though it must be quite difficult to have a constructive conversation with a Democrat, President Trump should be applauded and encouraged to have more direct dialogues. At some point, real communication could spontaneously erupt. It is discouraging that Democrats seem to be so unwilling to discuss issues like grown-up adults.

McCabe, no conviction or whatever is glad it's over for him & his family & what they went through for 2 yrs, I don't by it. What about the President & his family, what they've been going through & it will continue as long as he's the President. I didn't think Cuomo was going to work with the President. And as for CA, & the governor, another loser state. BTW, Biden should throw the towel in. Keep an eye on Bloomberg & Sanders. May be a brokered convention??

I have the program that lets me into the. Trusted line for TSA screening. It’s very handy. Can these people not understand that there are those who want to kill us and use every possible trick to do so. When you go through that line you don’t get inspected as closely. How easy it would be for someone who means harm to put solutions into their little three ounce limits baggie that we don’t have to take out. I wouldn’t know how but they would.
The other thing I object to are the totally random searches. TSA has to spend time searching little old ladies with a cane and small children instead of profiling, such as women in total coverings and young middle Eastern appearing men. If the terrorists where blonde blue eyed old ladies, I would expect to be searched. Are we silly or what?

I appreciate your efforts of educating the public on certain realities. However, I am a bit concerned about pigeonholing artist. I am what they call a renaissance man (Multi Talented talented artistic type,) and do not hold to most of the left's ideals. I respect you as an investigative reporter and in so am requesting that you look into the unfairness of the new patent laws, or pass it on to one of your colleagues in the media. These give big corporations and the wealthy complete control while undermining the American Dream for the less fortunate. The law no longer honors the inventor, by giving whoever can afford to file a patent or first to do so the rights to that invention. I think we all need a break from the relentless foolish attacks on Trump. It is really getting old. I would like to add that I admire your daughters intelligence and could see her being a US president one day. I feel her diplomacy, tact and firmness great attributes.
