MORNING EDITION

April 4, 2020

By Mike Huckabee

Here is the link to Friday’s daily press briefing on the coronavirus by President Trump and the Task Force.

Just FYI: If you want to avoid blood pressure spikes, you can safely skip over the part when Jim Acosta of CNN tries to act like a bullying sexist jerk.

Speaking of Jim Acosta, an argument could be made that Trump Derangement Syndrome is nearly as dangerous to public health as the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Because much of the media hate the fact that Donald Trump is President with the raging heat of a thousand suns, they have decided that their job is not to report what he says accurately or objectively, but to take every word and examine it like a bug under a microscope, trying to find any way to declare it wrong, false, racist, etc.

But now, when we’re facing a national health emergency and the public needs the latest and best information from the White House to protect themselves and their families, the anti-Trump press just cannot rein in their rageaholism and admit that maybe the President of the United States knows more about what’s going on than they do. And that stubborn refusal to put the good of the nation before their personal political grudges may be increasing infection rates and deaths.

IMAGINE THIS

Sean Lennon, the rock musician son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, surprised some of his liberal fans with tweets blasting China for misleading the world about having low coronavirus death numbers, and slamming the media for repeating China's propaganda and calling people racist if they say the Wuhan virus is from Wuhan. He told the media, “You have lost your legitimacy.”

If they’re really surprised, I'd remind them that while his dad is remembered more for the peace-and-love anthem “Imagine,” John also had a knack for stating blunt opinions and didn’t care if he ticked people off, even his own fans. You can keep “Imagine;” I prefer what he wrote and sang in “Revolution”:

“But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao

You ain’t gonna make it with anyone anyhow.”

READERS SOUND OFF ON THE RESPONSE TO COVID-19

My most recent commentary on COVID-19 drew many reader comments. Here are a few of the more thought-provoking ones...

From Dale:

We need to put the death rate from this virus in perspective with all causes of death. The National Center for Health Statistics (Table B) shows that in 2017 (latest available year) 2,813,503 people died from all causes, the highest being heart disease & cancer, 647,457 & 599,108 respectively.

Suicide was over 47,000! Flu/pneumonia was almost 56,000. So, not to belittle COVID-19, but we are all going to die from something and old folks like me (84), while still enjoying good health, need to be prepared for when the Good Lord calls us home, regardless of the cause of death!

From the Gov:

Thanks for your perspective. You sound a little like that great philosopher Joycelyn Elders, MD, who once said, “We all will probably die of something sooner or later.”

“THE EXPERTS SPEAK!”

The media routinely attack President Trump for saying things that the “experts” disagree with. But when it comes to the current pandemic, the so-called experts remind me of the old line about economists: that if you laid them all end to end, they still wouldn’t point in the same direction. Since the beginning of this pandemic, various “experts” have told us things with absolute certainly that later turned out to be false, from massive death toll estimates to the effectiveness of certain drugs.

Now, it’s time for the experts to backtrack again. Remember when they told us that wearing facemasks in public did no good, and people who wore them were just fooling themselves? Well, scratch that: time to start wearing facemasks when you go out in public.

Everyone else may be shut down, but we have another new episode of “Huckabee” tonight on TBN to help make your social distancing more pleasant. Of course, some major newsmakers will give us the latest lowdown on the coronavirus and how to reignite our economy. But we’ll also talk to Dr. Lauren Wright about celebrity culture in politics. Rik Roberts will have some “man on the street” interviews about social distancing (don’t worry, he kept his distance.) Joe Castillo will share one of the most beautiful and inspiring performances you will ever see (I won’t say more and spoil the surprise, but this is a must-see.) And Chynna Phillips of Wilson Phillips will lift your spirits with a great song, straight from her living room to yours!

We’ll have all this and more, tonight on TBN at 8 and 11 EST, 7 and 10 CST, and the same times on Sunday. To find where you can watch TBN, from local cable and broadcast channels to streaming, visit https://www.tbn.org/huckabee and click on the “WATCH” menu at the top. Perhaps it would be helpful to include in your "Coronavirus Tracker" feature the percentage of people who have contracted the virus who have died. I think that feature would be encouraging. In today's court that percentage would be 2.57%. While it tragic that many have died, it also means so far over 97% have not!

    Thanks for your receptive ear.

Hi Governor, I hope you and yours are still safe and well.

I wanted to comment about something from this article:
"Remember when they told us that wearing facemasks in public did no good, and people who wore them were just fooling themselves? Well, scratch that: time to start wearing facemasks when you go out in public."

A whole lot of people misunderstood what was being said, probably because they were listening for one thing and the "experts" said something else.

It STILL won't prevent us from CATCHING the virus, but it helps a little. VERY few people bought the kind of masks that prevent all viruses and bacteria from getting into our sinuses or even our lungs. Even those who did buy the right masks seldom fit the masks correctly. (many trained professionals don't follow the directions correctly either)

NOW the "experts" are trying to tell us to wear masks or even cloth over our mouths and noses in order to help prevent SPREADING the virus to others.

Part of objective reporting is objective listening first.

    THANKS! and all be well!
