Count yourself lucky if you didn’t have to sit through Monday’s impeachment spectacle. I wonder if anyone whose job description doesn’t include covering it is actually tuning in at this point. Maybe some of the most virulent Trump-haters enjoy watching lawyers asking other lawyers pre-scripted questions (carefully rehearsed over the weekend), but let me tell you, it was torturous. I really don’t want to be lectured about the “facts” and the law by the likes of Al “impeach-him-again” Green or that attorney/Democrat megadonor Dan Goldman, who would argue that up was down if it helped his side. (News flash, Judiciary Dems: an opinion piece from the WASHINGTON POST is NOT evidence.)

In short, this was almost indescribably awful. There were a few high points, though, so I’ll offer up…

FEATURED STORY

AINSWORTH: Hope I'm wrong: More reasons to think Michelle is it

By Laura Ainsworth, Staff Writer

Guess who’s smiling warmly on the cover of PEOPLE magazine’s big 2019 “The Year in Pictures” issue?

You guessed: Michelle Obama, who’s been named, along with lesser lights Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez and Taylor Swift –- who warranted inside “covers” –- as one of the 2019 “PEOPLE of the Year.” (Aside: we learn from this that to receive the honor this year, one had to be not just female and attractive but fabulously, incalculably wealthy.) The headline reads, “Michelle Obama: The Year I Told My Story…‘It’s easier to just be me.’”

Now, if you don’t know how PR campaigns work, let me tell you that nothing is an accident. The nature and timing of big-money publicity is planned down to the day, if not the hour. PR professionals on this level are tight with editors at major publications such as PEOPLE, not just to get covers and feature spreads but all sorts of helpful little mentions sprinkled here and there. I guarantee you, there is no one in the entire world who has PR “special handling” to rival Michelle Obama’s.

This year, she was named not only as America’s Most Admired Woman (her husband is Most Admired Man, with Trump coming in second), but also as Most Admired Woman on the planet.

Her spread in PEOPLE starts on page 80 with a photo of smiling, approachable Michelle –- wearing a bustier, no less, but still looking appropriately modest –- and the words: “Michelle OBAMA...a record-setting bestseller. A book tour that sold out stadiums around the world. With the White House behind her and an empty nest at home, the former First Lady revels in THE WIDE-OPEN HORIZON AHEAD (emphasis mine): ‘Life feels a little different now.’”

I wanted to make sure you also read these comments:

Someone check to see if there's a freeze warning in effect for Hades.  First, the Washington Post published a three-year investigation admitting that the alleged “experts” in our government were tragically wrong about Afghanistan and lying to us about the success of the war there that they blasted Trump for wanting to end.  Now, the New York Times has actually admitted they were wrong in claiming in 2016 that the economy had no more room to expand and Obama's pitiful record represented "full employment" while scoffing at Trump’s claims that lifting Obama's monetary and regulatory policies would free it to grow even more.

Of course, neither of these outlets actually use the words “Trump was right and we were wrong” (that level of self-reflection is probably beyond them), but at least it’s a start. Or maybe reality has simply become so blindingly apparent, even the news media can no longer ignore it.

-------------------------

And, someone made a great observation about Monday’s train wreck of an “impeachment” hearing, that there was a poll taken in real time showing what Americans thought of it.  The morning started off with the chamber filled with spectators who gradually got up and left as it dragged on, until by the end, the seats were completely empty.  That is the hallmark of a deadly flop.

It would be hard to pinpoint the strangest thing we’ve seen so far in these embarrassing proceedings, but I think that having an alleged unbiased witness exposed by Rep. Matt Gaetz as having tweeted over a year ago that nothing in the debunked Russian dossier had been disproved, including the notorious “pee tape,” well, that would definitely be a contender.

For those who blessedly don’t know what the “pee tape” is but can’t help feeling a sense of burning curiosity, here’s a story on how the IG’s report reveals the FBI’s use of that patently ludicrous rumor as if it were reliable evidence.

Love your newsletters. Just wanted to tell you about a local organization here in Sussex County, Delaware. The town of Georgetown, De had a new policy this year that there would be no nativity scene in the "circle" in the center of town. This was not just a nativity scene but prohibited any unattended scenes at all. Along came a group called "The Good Ole Boy Foundation". Within a few days they have organized a living nativity involving over 10 churches in the county. They have constructed a removeable stable and enlisted hundreds of volunteers to man the scene each night beginning 12/11/19 through Christmas Eve. They received the proper permits from the town and the rest is history. Check out their facebook page to learn more about this organization. They are truly being "good neighbors"

I saw on the "news" yesterday that the Boeing Airlines whistleblower will be testifying before Congress. Here's a question. Why is is it safe/okay for him to testify but not the Trump/Ukraine call whistleblower? What's the difference?
