June 14, 2018

At this writing, we’re still waiting for the report from Inspector General Michael Horowitz on the FBI’s handling of the Hillary Clinton’s email case.  It’s scheduled to be released Thursday, with the President receiving it by midafternoon.  The version we see later in the day will no doubt contain some redactions, as the DOJ has had it over two weeks for “review.”  The President (being the President) had better receive both the redacted and unredacted versions, to be able to compare them and see what the DOJ is trying to withhold from Congress and the general public.

Keep in mind, this report doesn’t deal directly with the FBI’s investigation of Trump and alleged Russia “collusion,” or with the Mueller investigation that spun off from that.  It doesn’t examine the process for obtaining the FISA warrants to spy on Trump campaign associates.  But it deals with largely the same cast of characters at the FBI, and if it shows that Comey, McCabe, Strzok, Page and the rest of that sorry lot were in the tank for Hillary, we’ll be able to infer a lot about their motivations regarding Trump.  In other words, if “the fix was in” for Hillary, we may assume “the knives were out” for Trump.

So that’s coming within hours.  In the meantime, I must say that the Rod Rosenstein story from yesterday --- concerning threats he made to members of Congress and their staff about putting their email and phone records under subpoena --- has caught fire.  The idea that such intimidation tactics might be used by bureaucrats against elected officials and their staffers who are trying to carry out their constitutional duties is just not in keeping with what we want our government to be here in America.  And as the story got around, it became increasingly clear that the Rosenstein temper is legendary and that similar threats have been made, in other meetings with lots of shouting.  Most of all, the story suggested how desperate the Department of “Justice” is to hide...what??...and how close the committees charged with oversight must be to finding it.

Commentary continues below advertisement

Andrew C. McCarthy has explained the legal implications of Rosenstein’s behavior in his latest column for NATIONAL REVIEW.  The great thing about it is that he places the contentious meeting in the context of what was going on five months ago, on January 10.  McCarthy reminds us that this was at a time when they were trying to maintain that they would never use unverified information in a FISA application.  They wanted us to believe that they would clearly inform the FISA court of the questionable origins and potential biases of the information supplied to them.  We found out only later that what they’d told us about the FISA application process was a pile of you-know-what.

McCarthy has done the heavy lifting for this latest piece, outlining in clear detail what is wrong with having the deeply conflicted Rosenstein play the role of FBI-head and Mueller’s supervisor.  (By the way, did you know McCarthy has just been hired as a FOX News contributor?  He’s been our go-to legal “advisor” for some time, adding greatly to our understanding of complex legal issues at a time when we really need that.)  He says he doesn’t know Rosenstein personally and is not attacking his integrity but theorizes that the conflicts he’s facing in his work are distorting his judgment.

I’m not sure I can cut Rosenstein that much slack.  What is it that has kept him from recusing himself, given those enormous conflicts?  Failure to do that is, in itself, a horrendously bad judgment call.  It’s even possible that he’s keeping some documents under wraps because they implicate HIM.  After all, he did sign one of the warrant renewals sent to the FISA court.  Whether or not that is true, just the appearance of something like that is one more reason he shouldn’t be anywhere near this case.

In fact, McCarthy makes a compelling argument that it doesn’t make sense for Jeff Sessions to recuse himself and Rosenstein not to, that in fact it should have been the opposite.  Rosenstein has to go, and all the documents must be disclosed.

about the children of illegal immigrants separated from their families - they could be reunited immediately if they would just go back across the border. it's their choice.

I'm sick and tired of this whole pony show. Let's face it nothing's going to happen to anybody when this is all said and done. This country has been over thrown by the corrupt deep state and the globalist socialist. If they can stall things this long, I'm afraid they can out smart everyone and the Constitution is dead and their plot to overthrow this government is cool proof. I'm wasting my money in trying to reclaim my country and freedom.

yes rosenstein needs to go,but he won't . not now anyway. "they" all need to go -------to jail! donald j. trump will decide when and the same is true with Jeff Sessions

Why hasnt Rosenstein been fired, along with Mueller?? Enough is enough of our tax paying dollars being wasted and Mueller has gone way beyond rich. Mueller has ties with Whitey Bulgar amond other shady deals and I am sure Rosenstein is the same. Also Schumer too.

I was born and raised in Northern California, but felt the need to move to Arizona 20 yrs ago because the prices of everything was skyrocketing. Too many people, too much noise. I have thought for some time that California should be cut in half since people already refer to Southern/Northern California. AND I could never figure out how Jerry Browns' father and then he continue to be elected to an office they obviously know nothing about running. Unless running into the ground counts for anything.

I do agree that Rosenstein needs to go. His actions are reprehensible and he is interfering with bringing Mueller's investigation to an end. I also think that Sessions should be replaced as well. I praise President Trump for trying to reign in corruption within our government. Thank you, Mike, for this opportunity to voice my opinion. Take care and God bless.

    Howdy Gov.,
I have no doubt that Rosenstein is hiding something at minimum is embarrassing and at most criminal, and it's about him. Why is President Trump allowing this behavior to continue? I know he has the power and we already know he's innocent of wrongdoing. He needs to grab the gang of 8, Chris Ray and several Secret Service and head to the DOJ, and confiscate the information, maybe not the Dems in the gang, but go in force. I know it will cause a big stink, but so will the info being held back from the Congress.

Jeff Sessions may be the most dangerous justice obstructing official that has ever been allowed to remain in power. Someone, somewhere, for the sake of our republic has to show him the door.

    Dear Governor Huckabee,
You are right on. No slack for Rosenstein. He needs to go. They all should be prosecuted including former president Barack Hussein Obama and especially HC, who is being protected and being treated with kid gloves.
If it were you or me, we would have been in jail immediately.
Sean Hannity is right when he said, this is an America he doesn’t recognize as I too say to the family. Dinesh D’Souza’s new book Death of a Nation. Will we now have to fight another revolutionary war, one that is invisible? Evil is what this is.
But what lays heavy on my heart today was listening to the press harass Sarah and especially about children being separated from their mothers, unfortunately. They have been told not to bring their families here illegally or to expect this, but they listen to the media who helps to encourage this.
The media doth protest. Right is not wrong and wrong is not right as they are pushing everyone to believe.
That is their weapon. If you don’t agree with me/us/our agenda, I/We will wear you down until you do. I am glad God gave Sarah the strength to move forward through her struggle, which was palpable, at least to me.
I will continue to pray for Sarah. She needs His strength in the lion’s den.
I continue to wait for God to bring all to light and bring them all to justice.

Who is this creep Rosenstein to threaten prosecution against persons doing tir job. All those who have violated the trust of the American people must be prosecuted and sent to prison! The world must see that our system of government is able to right itself despite the infiltration of the enemy. Mueller needs to shut his mouth and go sit down somewhere! Al of that based on propaganda from the enemy? Outrageous!!

It is unbelievable that none of the IG's report today called for criminal charges against Hilary Clinton despite everything she did and said. This is totally unreal!! Also, that charges weren't recommended for Loretta Lynch, Clapper, Comey, et al. What do they have to do to get charged with the crimes they have committed. Mr. Huckabee, you know that if it had you or I doing the same things, we would be wearing the orange jumpsuits!!

    06/14/2018 03:14 PM

Governor Huckabee: Yes I totally agree with you that Rosenstein should GO as well as AG Sessions, what has he done to see that Real Justice is Prevailing since he is the ONE IN CHARGE, SUPPOSEDLY. Seems like the entire DOJ/FBI should be completely REVAMPED from the very top. But what can we do to expedite and urge President Trump to make changes within those agencies, as they all are against him. I am very concerned about the delusional democrats and all of their radicalization which has gotten so far out of CONTROL. Who will STOP THEM?

    Hi Mike:
If the President decides to fire Rosenstein I hope it is done on the spot with federal agents in attendance so he cannot remove any documents from his office.

  • Donald Adams

    06/14/2018 02:42 PM

Sessions and Rosen stein must both be removed as soon as possible. Either congress or the president need to draft a formal letter stating from this time forward all documents requestes by Congress must be released unredacted within one week of the request or it will be considered both of their resignations and they no longer need to report to work going forward. Trump can then appoint a real Attorney General.

  • Jay French

    06/14/2018 01:44 PM

There exists the possibility that Jeff Sessions is the reason the documents have not been turned over & those which have are full of redactions.
To consider, since December 2017, Huber has been conducting an estimated 27 separate investigations into "Leakers" & 1 of them has already played out with the Security Head being named. It is entirely plausible that more than 1 Senator or Rep will be also named as a Leaker & I would enjoy watching them being "Perp Walked".
This may also explain the reason why President Trump has yet to demand release officially & why no Executive Order has been signed removing Secret Classifications on redactions.
Expecting to know the answers soon, expecting to witness numerous indictments issued from Huber & hoping the turmoil from public realization into the Obama administration corruption results in huge losses for Democrats in the 2018 elections.

Mike, I don't think there's a chance in h _ ll that the president or the American people will ever know what's in the information that the president has requested. The dems are too crooked and untruthful. And while I'm at it, can you tell me one simple thing?? WHY didn't Donald Trump have the FBI walk in and confiscate ALL their files and computers the way they did his attorney a couple of months ago....WITHOUT ANY WARNING, JUST BOOM... everything away from them and out of their hands so they wouldn't have the opportunity to change everything up and make it benign! WHY DIDN'T THAT HAPPEN?? Waaaaaaaaaay to much leniency here for my comfort! Waaaaaaaayyyyy to much!
Give them some of their own medicine and keep your foot on their throats until they cry "uncle". Don't you guys understand that's the only way to deal with demoncrats????? It's their own language and it's the only language they understand!!!!!! WHY are these people not in jail ?? Why do they not only keep their jobs but get retirement and bonus benefits ?? If this were me, or my husband, we would have been hauled off to jail the very day of the findings, if not before !!! I am at a point where I think John Q. Public has to do it for "them" !!! Better yet, why in the name of hades is that miserable turncoat Paul Ryan even IN any office ?? Comey............well he has so much blood on his hands and I want to see the Hammond's and Bundy's get pardoned since Comey had LaVoy Finnicum murdered in cold blood !!!!!

Observing the tactics Rosenstein has used to weave his way into running the DOJ unchecked is deeply troubling. I view him as the extension of Comey in an effort to bring down President Trump. He has stripped Pete Sessions of his power as DOJ. It is disgusting to see Sessions function as an underling to Rosenstein. Not only has Rosentein hamstringed Sessions, he is proceeding to work on our elected representatives. How far is he going to be allowed to go before someone has the strength to stop him? Certainly people like Devin Nunez have stood up to him, but we need more to join the fight to cleanse this government from the corruption that's in it. God have mercy on us.

  • Don Frix

    06/14/2018 12:07 PM

Right on Mike! I tweeted the Pres that after the briefing today by Rosenstein that he will do, Trump should declassify every thing and order sessions and rosenstein to cooperate fully or else. Sessions was very disingenious (sp) when he was on TV interviewed by Tucker stating that the DOJ had been cooperating. That is BS! It is way past time for all of this to go public. We are fed up with it. All of this is the only way The Reputation of the DOJ/FBI can be restored!!

    06/14/2018 12:02 PM

That IG report will have no teeth if there is no prosecution involved. So much to do about nothing and no action. Nothing is going to happen to any of them. Hillary will go free inspite of having given around TOP SECRET, TS/SCI, TS/SCI/SAP, numerous individuals' names. If I had released this type classified material I would still be in jail. Having worked for U.S.G. for 52 years, I never even thought of doing such a violation of our ethics or code. This type violation is almost as useless as the: 18 U.S. Code § 611 - Voting by aliens
    • US Code
    • Notes
    prev | next
    (a) It shall be unlawful for any alien to vote in any election held solely or in part for the purpose of electing a candidate for the office of President, Vice President, Presidential elector, Member of the Senate, Member of the House of Representatives, Delegate from the District of Columbia, or Resident Commissioner, unless—
    the election is held partly for some other purpose;
aliens are authorized to vote for such other purpose under a State constitution or statute or a local ordinance; and
voting for such other purpose is conducted independently of voting for a candidate for such Federal offices, in such a manner that an alien has the opportunity to vote for such other purpose, but not an opportunity to vote for a candidate for any one or more of such Federal offices.
Any person who violates this section shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than one year, or both.
    (c) Subsection (a) does not apply to an alien if—
    each natural parent of the alien (or, in the case of an adopted alien, each adoptive parent of the alien) is or was a citizen (whether by birth or naturalization);
the alien permanently resided in the United States prior to attaining the age of 16; and
the alien reasonably believed at the time of voting in violation of such subsection that he or she was a citizen of the United States.

does this remind you of another legendary temper? rosenstein, is in no shape to supervise not dispense justice since he has nothing but blind hatred for it as evidenced by his refusal to cooperate with the congress. Yes, Mike he has a LOT to hide. He is so conflicted which no one will address and I am convinced he is contaminated by such filth as Barry, Jarrett, Rice, Comey, Lynch Rhodes and Hilary the buitcher. DT needs to come back to the US and deal VERY harshly with Rosenstein and his bunch of thugs.

Good morning Gov. Huckabee - I firmly believe God has all things in hand and He sees what I can not, however, I have to admit the level of corruption, deception and abouse in our government is beyond staggering. This compunded by a MSM that would not identify truth if it came and bit them in the butt! I have conerns that these people who have so violated laws and ethic will gone unscathed. We are living with a generation that is so non-informed of what is going on, listening to the wrong sources of information or totally disengaged. Praying every day for our leaders , especially President Trump, because of the intense hatred and obstructionism he is facing every day. I can only hope and pray that our Presidnet and the innocent victims of these abuses can secure highly competent legal respresentation. The battle of the " two kingdoms" we live in is intensely fierce. We need to be sure that our President is allowed to continmue the work that he is doing and that all these corrupt obstructionist are put down and punished. What I don;t understand is why BHO is not investigated and charged with treason- he is not supporting our President and our country. I saw through his deceptive rhetoric from the beginning. People thought I was craze... but it is revealed that my perception was deep on accurate. It is very disconcerting that we the American people can no longer trust our FBI, DOJ and judiciary. Dear God please guide and protect our President- Amen

I don't understand the basic concept in the government that if you don't want to, you don't have to obey a subpoena. I'm just an average citizen, and I know if I refused I would face charges of contempt, be fined and possibly go to jail. How is a government official immune from that?

(It's sort of a senior citizen version of the daydream where Audrey Hepburn smiles at you). Maybe when Jeanine Pirro is AG, and Jeff Sessions is home in Alabama drinking sweet tea.

Trump should 'kick out' Rosenstein and "kick in" Jeanine Pirro, (a happy warrior with moxy). She can straighten things out in a hurry. Then in his second term, "kick out'' Jeff Sessions and promote Jeanine Pirro to AG. The more outside "movers-and shakers" we have in key positions, the better chance we have at cleaning the "Deep State" swamp.

Governor, what I cannot understand is why the DOJ and the FBI can get away with not providing documents to Congress. As a retired military officer, you would never dream of "slow walking" a request for documents from a General. Why doesn't Trump ORDER Sessions to bring the documents to him, unredacted, and if they don't arrive within hours he should fire the whole bunch, Sessions included!

To say it is a disappointment to read of and see the events as they have unfolded over the last 2 years would be a gross understatement. It is a shame that men refuse to see what they really are and not what they think they are. I believe what we are seeing, through the election of President Trump, is Gods way of showing anyone who cares about right and wrong and Gods will, what a bunch of pompous, egotistical, lying, cheating, group of people reside in Washington, D.C. I am not saying the President is the savior to the U.S. What I am saying is that he came in as an outsider and those In D.C. had their little program set up to do things their way and the apple cart got upset when he got elected. This is not a Democrat thing or a Republican thing. It is a Washington,D.C. thing with people conspiring and cheating and not caring at all for anyone but themselves. I am sure that not all are like that, but I am sure many are like that. I would imagine our forefathers would be having a fit right now if they were hear, and I know they were not perfect, for none of us are. I also believe that is why those who would tear down their statues and monuments wish to do so. It is a reminder to them of what was an age where they weren't thinking only of themselves but of an entire nation of people and today's government does not and will not think in those terms. They only worry over losing their power base. I pray for them, not that they would be destroyed, but their eyes would be opened to see what a sad lot they have become and change their ways. May God help us all.
