Today's Commentary --- Jonathan Turley on Kavanaugh case: Testify BEFORE any investigation -- One woman's take on the shameful Kavanaugh confirmation process -- Huck PAC supports conservatives -- Texas special election -- President Spartacus -- Trump visits flood victims -- Evening Edition - Daily Verse

---------------------------------------------

The woman who claims that Judge Brett Kavanaugh tried, as a high school student, to assault her at a party has now said she won’t testify until after the FBI investigates.  Never mind that the FBI has already done several very thorough background checks on Kavanaugh and has declined to look at claims of this incident from who-knows-what-year at who-knows-what-address, and also never mind that Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings have already been held.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s unconscionable withholding of this allegation until days before the committee vote is responsible for this mess.  But her liberal colleagues love it.  What a brilliant strategy!  Why, maybe now they can delay the full Senate vote until after the midterms, when they perhaps will have just enough votes to derail Kavanaugh’s appointment.  And if they don’t have the votes then, heck, maybe they can delay for a couple more years or longer, till after the 2020 election and the convening of the newly reconstituted Senate in 2021, and then see how it goes.  Sure, they can keep a seat on the Supreme Court vacant for years if necessary!  Why not?

One woman's take on the shameful Kavanaugh confirmation process

By Laura Ainsworth, Staff Writer

In this time of anonymous op-eds, it was tempting for me to write this without putting my name to it, but it would be unfortunate to see the message diluted with accusations of “Coward!”  My work as a staff writer typically does not carry my byline, and there’s a certain freedom in that.  I have many friends on both sides of the political aisle and can generally predict what the reactions will be to what I say or write.  I have tried to keep my online presence as politics-free as possible, even declining friendship requests from people whose pages are relentlessly and hatefully political.  But what is happening with the Kavanaugh vote and the total politicization of the #MeToo movement is just the last straw for me when it comes to left-wing politics, and it’s time to speak out.

It’s gotten to the point that, thanks to the left, I’m embarrassed to be female.

Let me preface this by explaining that I have an unusually varied professional background, embracing both the entertainment world –- music, comedy, theater, radio, journalism –- and also the corporate world.  I even spent some time in Hollywood pursuing film work, which I do not recommend.  Without a doubt, the abundant stories of sexism and predatory behavior are real and have existed since long before any of us were born.  I know what it’s like to have to humor men who have held the key to that next promotion or part and how to gracefully but firmly shut my hotel room door at a corporate conference to keep the boss from following me inside.  I know what it’s like to walk into a meeting room full of men, some of whom are checking me out, and think, “What fresh hell is this?”

Texas special election

By Mike Huckabee

The media, having learned nothing from the 2016 election, might want to hold off on their stories about the inevitable “blue wave” that’s going to sweep the Party of Insanity back into power in November.  Case in point: Tuesday’s run-off election in Texas State Senate District 19, where Republican newcomer Pete Flores beat former Democratic Congressman Pete Gallego by 53-47%.  “Well, sure,” they’ll say, “but that’s in Texas.”  Yes, the same state they keep assuring us is about to turn blue and where Sen. Ted Cruz is in big trouble against uber-liberal Beto O’Rourke.

It’s also worth noting that Flores flipped this particular district  from blue to red.  In fact, it’s been in Democratic hands for 139 years, since the post-Civil War days of Reconstruction; and it only came open when the last Democratic incumbent was convicted on 11 felony charges – two facts that I suspect are not unrelated.

President Spartacus

By Mike Huckabee

Sen. Cory Booker claims it would be “irresponsible” of him not to consider running for President.  After all, we’ve had two Adamses, two Johnsons, two Roosevelts and two Bushes and not one President Spartacus.

Trump visits flood victims

By Mike Huckabee

There may be no better illustration of why the left’s attitude toward President Trump is called “Trump Derangement Syndrome” than their reaction to this heartwarming moment from Trump’s visit with flood victims at a Baptist church in New Bern, North Carolina.  A young boy named Tucker who was volunteering with his family ran up and asked, “Mr. President, can I have a hug?”  A smiling Trump gave the kid a hearty hug, then called out for his dad, gave him a thumb’s up and said, “You did a good job.”

Naturally, the left was OUTRAGED. They accused the boy of being a paid plant.  They claimed it had to be fake because Trump never hugs his own kids (there’s no limit to the things they know.)  They claimed it was racist and that Trump only hugged the boy because he was white and he never hugged any hurricane victims in Puerto Rico (again, amazing the things they know.)

So now, Trump has been savaged for hugging a little boy while comforting flood victims.  I can only imagine what they would have said if he’d turned down the kid’s request for a hug.
