I like to imagine myself in the same room with Devin Nunes, Darrell Issa, and others who are similarly fed-up with the bureaucratic swamp, taking my turn asking questions of smug government officials like Comey. I’ve suggested questions for him before –- some serious, some for fun –- and here’s what I would ask him this time…

Gun shooting truth exposed

By Mike Huckabee

One of the most commonly-cited studies among advocates of gun control laws claims that between 1966 and 2012, nearly a third of the world’s mass shootings (defined as four or more people killed in a public place, not connected to any other crime, act of genocide, terrorism or war) occurred in the US, making America by far the #1 nation for mass shootings.  The US had 90 mass shootings alone, compared to only 202 in most of the rest of the world, or so we're constantly told.

But the academic who did it has been very secretive about his sources and methods, and now perhaps we know why.  This gun study is more like a computing term: “Garbage in, garbage out.”  We were supposed to take his word for it that he somehow managed to chronicle every mass shooting in 171 nations, most of them non-English-speaking and not users of the term “mass shooting,” and over a period before these nations had mass media or the Internet.

Using the same purported methodology, only with translators and reliable records, pro-Second Amendment researcher John Lott was able to identify 3,081 mass shootings in other nations, dropping the US to #62 per capita. But saying “America is 62nd in mass shootings!” doesn’t connote the proper level of urgency to panic people into passing laws that don’t really do any good.

So will Lott’s more accurate study become the new standard, or will the flawed and misleading study continue to be cited?  I think I can guess, since the US is #1 in the world in biased news, based on my own scientifically-sound study of seeing CNN in airports.

Lyme disease up in New York

By Mike Huckabee

Speaking of drawing conclusions about guns, the CDC reports that Lyme disease cases have tripled in the US over the last 15 years, with New York State being the hardest hit.  Lyme disease is largely carried by ticks that feed on deer.  The more deer, the more ticks.  And there’s been an explosion in the deer population due to a decrease in deer hunting, caused by liberal societal pressures demonizing hunters and of course, laws that make it much harder.  Some of the strictest gun laws are in New York, which also now has fewer hunters, more deer, more ticks and more Lyme disease.

I’d say the conclusion is indisputable: heavy-handed gun control laws spread Lyme disease.

Scoff if you like, but there’s more solid evidence to back that up than the study that says the US is #1 in mass shootings.

Be skeptical of what Mueller says about Flynn

By Mike Huckabee

At the link, special counsel Robert Mueller hits back at criticism of how the FBI dealt with Michael Flynn, claiming Flynn had enough government experience that he didn’t need to be told it would be a crime to lie to the FBI, and that he admitted to knowingly lying.

I’ll just let you read his defense of the agents who, as we now know, deliberately encouraged Flynn not to have a lawyer present and misled him into thinking it was merely a casual conversation.  I’ll write more in detail about this later.  Just bear in mind two things as you read Mueller’s defense:  If he believed that Flynn was well aware of the criminal liabilities of lying during a sworn FBI interview, then didn’t the decision to discourage him from having a lawyer present imply that they were deliberately misleading him into thinking it wasn’t an official FBI interview?  And when he refers to Flynn’s admission of knowingly lying, is he referring to the plea deal under which Flynn pleaded guilty to lying after losing his house, his life savings, his job and his reputation, and being threatened with prison and having his son targeted by prosecutors?

Pardon my skepticism, but by that point, he might have agreed to plead guilty to being a witch to make this stop, but it wouldn’t necessarily mean it was true.

President Trump to review Taliban bomb maker murder case

By Mike Huckabee

Brace yourself to hear more about this story in 2019:  last week, the Army announced that it would bring murder charges against former Maj. Mathew L. Golsteyn, after he admitted killing a suspected Taliban bomb maker in Afghanistan during the bloody battle of Marja in February 2010.  He had previously been investigated and had his Gold Star revoked, but the military declined to prosecute.  If convicted, Golsteyn could face the death penalty for killing an alleged radical whose explosives killed two young men under his command.

Critics claim Golsteyn went outside the approved tactics of war and committed an act of premeditated murder, while defenders say he was a hero who only did what has to be done in the midst of war to keep an enemy from being released to kill even more American soldiers.  At the moment, the facts are in dispute, and President Trump tweeted that he will order a review of the case.  There’s more at the link.  Read it and be prepared when this story returns to the news after the New Year.

Best gift book of Christmas

By Mike Huckabee

Here’s a scary sign for the health of the publishing industry, and for literacy in general: Barnes and Noble released its annual list of the 20 best holiday gift ideas.  It includes mittens, a Buddha board, Mickey Mouse speakers, several kinds of socks…and only one book.

Even worse, it suggests that the people at Barnes & Noble don’t even know what the best gift book of Christmas 2018 really is:

Daily Verse

"Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord,
and whose hope the Lord is.
For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters,
and that spreadeth out her roots by the river,
and shall not see when heat cometh,
but her leaf shall be green;
and shall not be careful in the year of drought,
neither shall cease from yielding fruit."

- Jeremiah 17:7-8
