That was former FBI general counsel James Baker’s description of the “investigation” into Hillary Clinton’s private email server when he testified before the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees last October. This knowledge is based on transcripts that haven’t been released to the public but that were “obtained” (hmm) for a damning new report by Jeff Carlson in the Epoch Times.
“My original belief...after having conducted the investigation and towards the end of it, then sitting down and reading a binder of her material, I thought that it was alarming, appalling, whatever words I said, and argued with others about why they thought she shouldn’t be charged,” Baker testified.

One of the people he repeatedly clashed with was then-FBI Director James Comey, who later let Clinton off the hook by by declining to prosecute, announcing that “no reasonable prosecutor” would take that case. Apparently, Baker had definitely thought someone should take it! But he did tell the committees that by the end, he had been persuaded to drop it.
At the time of his testimony, though, he said that he still found the conduct of former Secretary of State Clinton and her associates to be “appalling.” Unfortunately, this story offers no clue as to why Baker finally went along with Comey on the decision not to indict. Too bad --- that’s a big question. And no one in the House will be bringing him back to ask him, either, because Democrats now control the committees and they’ve shut that query down and welded the lid shut.
But there’s much more in this story, and for those interested in the real origins of the Trump Tower meeting (with Russians!!!) and the role played by Glenn Simpson of Fusion GPS and Hillary’s law firm, Perkins Coie, in setting up the whole “Russia” scenario, the story is an absolute must-read. Of course, Baker himself is under investigation for leaks. Maybe that’s how Jeff Carlson “obtained” this information, but who knows?
