James Comey, we know what you did and we see who you are

Less than 3 minute read

August 30, 2019 |

Former FBI Director James Comey, a thoroughly disingenuous piece of work, lied to the incoming President, reassuring him he wasn’t a target of the FBI in the very meeting that was set up to target him. He met with Trump not so much to offer the typical defensive briefing that every incoming President receives but to get him alone, lay that outrageous “Russian prostitute” story on him and see how he’d react. This was intended by Comey and his cohorts to be a trap. An ambush.
We know this now from the first installment of Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report, which describes a scenario in which Comey visits President-elect Trump in Trump Tower on January 6, 2017, drops that whopper of a tale from the “dossier” on him, and then --- in a prearranged move --- goes back to his waiting car to his laptop, which has already been set up on a secure hookup for a videoconference, to memorialize that meeting for “Crossfire Hurricane.”
It was the content of his notes that he leaked to the press. Yes, leaked. When the report says he and his lawyers did not leak classified information to the media, that meant “leak directly.” We know Comey got it out there, because he has bragged about it himself, saying he intended for “the content” of his notes to reach the media through the person he DID leak to, and, sure enough, news of the briefing leaked to Jake Tapper and kicked off the “Russia hoax” hysteria. CNN had been eager to fly with the information in the unconfirmed “dossier,” and this briefing with Trump was the “hook” they needed to do that. Then BuzzFeed released the whole “dossier.”
Keep in mind, Comey and his FBI/DOJ/State Department colleagues already knew that Christopher Steele was a terrible source and that his “dossier” was politically motivated and unsupported by evidence, containing stunning inaccuracies. But that didn’t matter --- it suited their purposes.
So, this sanctimonious slimeweasel did leak sensitive information to the media, just indirectly. His clear motivation, as he has said, was to trigger a special counsel investigation against the new President (headed, of course, by his longtime associate and pal Robert Mueller). We as a country suffered through that for almost two years.
The report clearly outlines the purpose of that Trump Tower meeting: “Witnesses interviewed by the OIG also said that they discussed Trump’s potential responses to being told about the ‘salacious' information, including that Trump might make statements about, or provide information of value to, the pending Russian interference investigation.” In other words, Comey’s team met before the meeting to discuss their hopes that the President-elect would say something incriminating. Absolutely it was a set-up.
This is an utterly shameful, scathing, withering report. (I checked my thesaurus for synonyms: devastating, jaw-dropping, condemning, harsh, negative, staggering, horrific, disgusting.) Beltway people who have seen other such reports have been struck by the language in these pages. It’s clear from this how Comey violated FBI policy repeatedly and why he’s “a dangerous example” to the FBI’s 35,000 employees. Never mind that Attorney General William Barr is not pressing charges at this time on this aspect of the FBI’s activities; he has his reasons, almost certainly including the reality that the case would likely be tried in the Democrat stronghold D.C. court with a D.C. jury and this isn’t the strongest case he’s got against Comey. He needs an absolute slam-dunk for a conviction.
Remember, this was just one tiny part of the case –- which notably includes allegations of FISA fraud to weaponize our intelligence capabilities –- that Barr is still sorting out. Trump lawyer Jay Sekulow called this “the pregame show.” Rep. Devin Nunes of the House Intelligence Committee called it “a building block.”
On Thursday, Comey claimed he had been lied about and had the audacity to suggest HE deserved an apology. (Don’t hold your breath, Jim, or, on second thought, DO.) To maintain he was lied about, he has to twist the facts and split hairs so fine they can’t be seen with the naked eye. He doesn’t deserve an apology; Trump does. Mike Flynn does. George Papadopoulos does, and numerous others. The American people do as well, for trying to undo our election and giving us these years of hysterical “Russia, Russia, Russia!” nonsense.
If Barr’s decision not to prosecute (at least for now, for this) makes you mad enough to spit, I suggest you not watch MSNBC, where Chuck Todd blamed Trump for what poor James Comey has been through. “Can we step back here a minute” he said, “and realize how James Comey’s reputation has been just totally eviscerated by the President? Essentially...he’s off the hook here [for] doing anything wrong...The way the report was written, you could tell...the President really is good at this character assassination.”
Laura Ingraham noted that when James Clapper was on CNN Thursday, they didn’t ask him one question about the IG report. On the off-chance your head hasn’t exploded yet, I’ll spare you more quotes from CNN and MSNBC. You may thank me later.
I’ll offer this instead, from Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, as told to Laura Ingraham: This report “details the worst director in the history of the FBI...This guy... he broke every rule of the FBI. Now, I think he should be prosecuted...They’re giving him a break; they’re basically saying, ‘not enough evidence,’ but he lied, he leaked...he used [the FBI] for political purposes...the report demonstrates all of that...This guy is completely a disgrace in the eyes of any FBI agent. They realize this is worse than anything J. Edgar Hoover ever did.”
That’s saying a lot, to be sure, but Giuliani offers support: “When he walked in when the President was President-elect, and faced him with that [“prostitute” story], he was trying to tell him, ‘I have something on you, so you better keep me in office.’...If J. Edgar Hoover was, up until now, the worst director, this guy has, like, gone way beyond that.”
J. Edgar certainly did do that stuff; maybe we could call it a tie. And to put this in perspective, if you think lack of accountability is a recent development, Hoover remained FBI director until his death in 1972.
One thing we know is that Comey richly deserved to be fired. And to think, Trump’s firing of this guy was labeled “obstruction.” Ironically, Comey’s being fired didn’t stop the FBI from going after Trump --- it intensified their efforts.
As I told Sean Hannity in an appearance Thursday night, it will be sad for the country if this plot went all the way up to the top, to Obama. I happened to be on with Andrew C. McCarthy, who has already laid out a compelling case for that in his new book BALL OF COLLUSION. And, as Joe diGenova said on the Hannity show, “...there is no way you can finish this investigation without interviewing the former President of the United States.”
(You can see that “Hannity” appearance here:  https://youtu.be/roi06quyrxs?t=1938 )
The report makes for worthwhile reading, even just the conclusion starting on page 59. You and I would be going to prison if we had done these things.
And here’s an outstanding opinion piece on the report, from Byron York.

I didn't have to check my thesaurus for synonyms for this utterly "shameful, scathing, withering"report because the word EVIL seemed to cover it! And people wonder why our kids are cynical and can't find the God,,,and His love...this nation is supposed to be"under" ! WHAT A MOCKERY DEMOCRATS CONTINUE TO MAKE OF OUR GOD!

If Comey really thinks he is innocent of any wrongdoing. He is certainly a tutorial of what the Republicans don't stand for. He lived in a house full females who supported Hillary, and he still remained a stalwart Republican. That is the worst lie of all. He owes the rest of the party a apology. I'm all for putting his picture net to the Weasel and the Skunk. Sorry for any dispersion on THEIR character.

A very low point in todays Justice the murderer of Kate gets thrown out Comey laughing at us the World is probably saying the United States is heading to the bottom of morally list and that we are just nothing more than fools to think Justice for all is just a fake slogan for who is fooling who. The deplorables are being taken for fools. Satin is laughing with delight the Dems are killing babies Illegals are killing citizens and getting away with it is it getting close for the big Asteroid to hit? If I want to live in a shit hole country I will go to South America. Feds clean up up your act.

Unless these scumbags are prosecuted, and examples are made, the upper echelons of government will feel above the law. Abuse of power will become the norm, and our Nation will be destroyed.

I'm wondering if there will ever be a prosecutable case against Comey. The fact that he's not being prosecuted now increases the idea among liberals (who would be on the jury) that he's innocent, and that any future prosecution is just a political attack on Comey.
I just don't trust that justice will be done.

Makes one weep for America and what went on to a duly elected President. Just shocking to see the corruption at the very top. Makes Nixon look like a saint.

Thanks, Gov Huckabee. While we're all waiting for the next shoe to drop, check out Dan Bongino's podcast, where he outlines in stark terms why we may never see the kind of "justice" we hope for.

As Dan says, perhaps the best we can expect is that history will record the truth about what really happened. This may not satisfy many Patriots who want to see the Black Hats in handcuffs, but given the hold the Dems still have on the justice system, we have to be ready for a big disappointment, then move on and continue to fight rather than throw in the towel.

Just returned from my cardiologist and there is Good News and Bad News depending on your point of view. For the Progressives my heart Disease will NOT claim me anytime soon so the Bad news is I will continue to be a thorn in thier side awhile longer.
Just sent a contribution so you can continue your excellent commentary and I can continue to plagiarize your material. In my sphere of influence I'm either a villain or a Saint.
I'm holding on to my belief that Justice will at least catch some low hanging fruit but as far a cleaning out the Septic Tank I'm sorry to say it will just be business as usual. The BROTHERHOOD is just too clannish. Birds of a Feather tend to Flock together and unless someone turns Life for the Swamp Dwellers will just continue to flaunt the Rule of Law.

    Hello Governor Huckabee
I turned 70 a few months ago, served four years in the US Air Force and am retired now and I just can't believe any more the seeming ineptitude of our federal government. They are out of control and can't seem to do anything that to any sane American citizen seems to make sense. I am becoming very afraid that the only way they will ever be brought under control is via a second US revolution! I don't know what form it will take, I certainly hope by a peaceful means but I am becoming more and more worried whether that is at all possible .
The rule of law has to be applied to all equally! What has been going on now for so many years is totally unacceptable! Lock em up! Maybe hang a few of the worst, we have to get our government back on the right track.

I am just livid that he was not charged. When he got back to his car and used his computer to contact the "Crossfire Hurricane" who do you suppose was on the other end? I am an 81 yr. old deplorable and I could have heaved my cookies when I heard Chuck Todd blame President Trump!!! Someone has to be charged and I hope it goes way up to that innocent looking Obama.
There are so many of us that are sick of the press and the crookedness of the Democrats. I have faith in God and I know He is the One that got the President elected and I will pray and pray and hope President Trump gets another term. God help us if he doesn't! My husband feels the same way!!

Since Comey BROKE several FBI regulations, is he still eligible for collecting his RETIREMENT? Losing a retirement may cause others who are thinking of doing the same thing.

Once again, nothing will happen to any of these players. The is a two tier justice system in the country. Politicians on the upper tier and the rest of us down below. Frustrating that Gen Flynn has been bankrupted and had his life destroyed, but the culprits get away with anything.

At this point I am thoroughly disgusted and have lost hope Comey and the others will be held accountable for what they have done. I used to think there would be accountability but no longer. I heard the comments regarding the "pregame show" and "building blocks" but for the first I gave a whatever eye roll. Nothing will be done and these people will go free.

President Trump's election has opened the doors to the cesspool that is entrenched in Washington DC politics and most likely in our state and local governments. I truly believe only God can clear this mess up.

Unless they add this as some additional charge in a later prosecution of this facilitator of a bloodless coup against a presidential candidate and a subsequent sitting president, and this seditionist is allowed to walk, America's "Rule of Law" will be history!

I will be surprised if anything comes from all this . It will just drag on and on and nothing will be done. That's the way of many things the rich and powerful are criminally involved in . Epstein committed suicide . Yea , sure . Nothing more to it . Hilary , nothing has or will ever happen to her . Why should we expect true justice from "our"government ? Can you remember any time justice was done relating to deeds of the "servants" we have elected ? I can't .

I really liked Sandra Houston's contribution. She feels the same frustrations I feel. It seems this soap opera will never end. I agree too that the taxpayer should be reimbursed for the $40 million for the investigation. But, there should be punitive fines for Comey, Mueller and that whole tribe of misfits involved in the investigation. We can never recoup the loss of 2 yrs of Trump's presidency. Finally, I am tired of living with breathless anticipation that these scumbugs will be jailed or hung for treason which is what they committed and that includes the ringleader, Obama. What a travesty his presidency was to be visited on this nation. It will take decades to recover if possible at all. I wish I could live to see what history will say about this rat. jm

This whole thing stinks worse than any Tennessee pig pen I’ve ever been around ! & I’ve been around a few as my Dad kept pigs & I had to “slop” those critters! At least they were on a higher plane than these real pigs in DC!
