Today's Edition

--------------------------

A few years ago, inspired by my book “A Simple Christmas,” I asked listeners of my radio show to share their own favorite Christmas memories. Last year, to let my staffers and myself enjoy some time off with our families, we dug into the archives to share some of those wonderful stories with my newsletter/website readers. Since we have many more subscribers now, I thought I would share them with you again, along with some more that have never run before. I hope they’ll add some extra joy to your holiday season!

If you have a treasured family Christmas story you’d like to share in the comments, I’d love to read it. Please be advised that by doing so, you grant us the right to share your story in the future in various media. For instance, if you have a great story like the ones I’m sharing this year, I might lift it out of the comments and share it with everyone next year.

We’ll be back with updates on the news after the holidays. Don’t worry, if anything major happens, I’ll put down my Christmas ham or stop playing with my grandkids to comment on it (but it will have to be EXTREMELY major!)

Have a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year!

With gratitude,

Mike Huckabee

FEATURED STORY

Christmas means a whole lot more

By Mike Huckabee

This story shows us that Dr. Seuss was right: Christmas is not something that comes from a store.   Christmas means a whole lot more.

Tina from California wrote that she was a struggling single mom for many years.  She managed to keep a roof over her daughter and son's heads.  But there was no money for the Christmas extravagances many families enjoy.  They had to be creative and "make do."

Instead of buying cards, they'd call relatives and sing carols to them over the phone.  And instead of buying fancy Christmas treats, they'd go into the kitchen and make donuts out of Pillsbury biscuit dough, and sweeten and decorate them with cinnamon and sugar.  Tina said that for years, Christmas wasn't a good memory for her.  All she remembered about those Christmases was being poor.

Then, Tina wrote:

“When my son was 20, he said 'Mom, remember when we used to make donuts and sing to everyone for Christmas?'

Sulking, I replied, ‘Yeah.’

He said, 'That is one of my BEST Christmases. We didn't have a lot of money, but we had a lot of love to give.'

I have since changed my opinion...(Now), it is one of my best Christmas memories also.  My heart grew 3 sizes that day!...Ever since, I make it a point to make a homemade gift for the people in my family.  Last year, I made everyone throw quilts. Christmas is more than a day... It is a memory!”

Thank you, Tina for that precious memory and a valuable lesson for us all.  It’s not the presents you spend money on that stay with your kids for a lifetime, it’s your presence spent with them that they’ll cherish forever.

I wanted to make sure you also read this comment:

Here’s an insightful letter from reader Craig:

Can you imagine the bad precedent –- If both houses were controlled by one party and the Presidency the other, then they could do just exactly this: impeach both the President and the Vice President because they do not like the results of the election and the Speaker of the House becomes President (in this case Nancy Pelosi). How can anyone not realize this is a coup of the executive branch of government by the legislative? This is an attack on the Constitution, our Republic and the American people and our way of life. Horrible !!!!!

From the Gov:

Thanks for writing, Craig. You are correct, and yes, it is indeed horrible. It’s exactly what the founding fathers feared about impeachment. If Chuck Schumer were running the Senate right now, I’m afraid this is exactly what would happen --- or would have already happened. (Result in this case:  Nancy Pelosi would be sworn in as the UNELECTED President, Justice Ginsberg would retire, and the UNELECTED Pelosi would immediately nominate the next justice, whom the Democrat Senate would rubber-stamp.  It would actually constitute a coup against the judiciary as well.)

This is why it’s so important to show this effort to be what it is and smack it down hard, with no negotiation whatsoever. It’s also why we need to keep the Senate and get the House out of Democrat hands, as they would take a machete to the Constitution if it meant they could stay in power.

Bible Verse of the Day (KJV)

"My flesh and my heart faileth:
but God is the strength of my heart,
and my portion for ever.."

- Psalm 73:26

All I want is a straight Constitutional and 10 commandment abiding citizens for Christmas. Any citizen that can meet this criteria please run for a office. The holders of congressional seats are in the majority in the House they do not meet this criteria. I wish all Americans would take time and elect people with these 2 qualifications. The Ten Commandments are a guide line how to treat we as Humans, the Constitution is all that governs us. The House members on the Left do NOT believe in any of the 2 they need to go far away. Please People the Constitution and the 10 Commandments!! Now Ain't that America? MAGA KAG

I would like to Thank Craig for his comment I use to think our country could never change because of the great wisdom GOD gave our founders but I also never thought our elected officials could be filled with so much hatred and so little love for our great country and the people in it. These are evil times full of evil people, we the people of GOD must Stand Strong

Many years ago, when my two children were 4 and 2 years old, I was a volunteer for Birthright. It is an organization dedicated to supporting and helping pregnant women to keep their baby and not have to consider abortion as their only option.
It was Christmas time and our director introduced me to a young South African woman named Eudora, who was in the US studying to become a doctor when she discovered she was pregnant. With her family far away and no support whatsoever, she had turned to Birthright for help.
Eudora delivered a beautiful baby girl named Ntombi and came to stay with my young family right from the hospital on Christmas Eve. My husband and I were struck with the similarity to the Christmas story - these two had no place to go - it was as if we were providing shelter to the Christ Child. I have never known such peace and joy as I did that Christmas.

I had many good memories throughout my years. Raising my family, carrying on traditions I grew up with & to this day, I try & keep a few now. But, the one I hold close to my heart is when I was a child. We didn't have much back then, but my parents (they are both gone, but went too early) made sure we were always fed & warm. Every Christmas, we listened to Gene Autry sing Rudolph The Rednose Reindeer, & my mom always read "The Night Before Christmas", & of course, left milk & cookies for Santa Claus. Merry Christmas to all & to all a good night!

While there are always many insightful treasures in your newsletters, very often it is one statement that you make that grabs my heart and inspires the comment I write in response TO it...and SUCH WAS THE CASE WHEN I READ your response to Craig when you stated: "This is why it's so important to show this effort ("evil" ) for what it is and SMACK IT DOWN HARD, WITH NO NEGOTIATIONS WHATEVER! "

And the REASON this statement grabbed my heart is because I believe God could choose no better man of God to do this "smacking down" than one Mike Huckabee! Actually, I have, in my comments, deliberately hinted AT that....And, ahem, I have stated some spiritual truths in my endeavor to establish enough spiritual credibility so that you might think twice about what I state about your being the "commander-in-chief" of our spiritual army!

And, since I DO believe you would BE God's choice to BE the head of this army, it would follow then that, when I have talked about our President replacing his present spiritual advisor, YOU would make the perfect choice because you have sooo PROVEN TO Present Trump that he has, IN you, just about the best kind of friend one can hope to have, that he could RECEIVE your spiritual advice...

After I made a point of mentioning the "lies" of the "prosperity preachers" (which had a bit of an ulterior motive behind it), I then decided to watch a video of your interview WITH President Trump, last June, and it confirmed, TO me, that our President COULD receive a spiritual message FROM you because he would KNOW that it was being motivated by your love for him AS his friend!

After I watched your interview with President Trump, I then saw where I had an email Christmas card that the TRUMP TEAM wanted me to sign....So I wrote the Trumps a Chistmas message... AND, only minutes after I SENT them my Christmas message, I spotted this newsletter from you.. AND....

I AM GOING TO COPY, AND PASTE, BELOW WHAT I WROTE IN MY CHRISTMAS MESSAGE SO THAT you can SEE that which preceded my BEING moved TO respond to the statements you made to Craig!.. SO BELOW IS THE COPY, AND PASTE, OF WHAT I WROTE IN THE TRUMPS' CHRISTMAS CARD:

In this coming year may God bless you with a spiritual advisor who can help you understand that a REAL "winner"...from CHRIST'S perspective....is the Christian who comes closest to being able to reecho the Apostle Paul when he said, "it is no longer I who live, but Christ Who lives IN me"...and, SHOULD God bless you WITH such a spiritual advisor, the Jesus IN you will be able to say to your "enemies" : "I love YOU, but I hate your SIN against me....and then see how many votes that statement will win you!....not to mention the approval that comes from God when we obey His command TO love our enemies!

Best Christmas! My Dad died of cancer when I was 5, and my Mother had gone into unbelievable debt trying to take him everywhere looking for a cure. The next Christmas was quite austere, to say the least. In our house, the tradition was to open some presents after we returned from church Christmas Eve. Well, "some" presents that year turned out to be the only one I received! Somehow my Mother scrapped up enough money to buy a toy tractor with a front bucket that actually worked. As usual, the Christmas Tree was cut at a neighbor's farm, and was the short-needle kind. By the time Christmas had arrived, it was losing it's needles fast. I remember spending hours and days using my tractor to scoop up needles and move them from pile to pile. It's still the best Christmas memory - and a tribute to the loving and endearing spirit of my Mother!

Our family's favorite Christmas memory: My brother, sisters and I loved Christmas because my dad would drive us, from San Diego to San Bernardino, to spend it with our grandparents. My grandma would decorate the living room and flocked tree with blue lights and beautiful blue bulbs. We would see lots of beautifully wrapped presents under the tree.

On Christmas eve, grandma and grandpa invited their good friends to the house for dinner and a show. The show was put on by us, the grandkids. We passed out homemade and illustrated programs, listing the Christmas Carols we knew. Each of us sang a solo, my favorite being Oh Holy Night. The other favorite was my two sisters and I singing Twas the Night Before Christmas and my brother dressed as Santa Claus "bounding down the chimney" with a bag full of toys! Our audience always loved it and we loved that part of Christmas - bringing joy to our Dad, grandparents and friends.
