The Deal

January 26, 2019

Many of President Trump’s supporters are expressing disappointment that he agreed to a three-week spending deal that will temporarily end the partial government shutdown without providing any border wall funding.

https://www.westernjournal.com/trump-keep-government-funded-3-weeks/

But before Nancy Pelosi gloats any further about her success at keeping our borders unsafe and porous, bear in mind that this is only a three-week bill.  The deal will circumvent the media’s relentless focus on the government shutdown (and blaming Trump for it) and curtail rising problems like threats of air traffic controllers walking off the job.  Unlike the last President, Trump doesn’t want a shutdown to be disruptive and inconvenient for average Americans.  The three weeks will give him time to make his State of the Union Address and talk directly to the American people, and to disrupt the building “blame Trump for the shutdown” narrative and hopefully to turn public attention back to the border, where it belongs.

In three weeks, they’ll be back to square one, and as he made clear, if Pelosi still refuses to negotiate, he has other options for going around Congress.  They might not even require declaring a national emergency.

https://www.westernjournal.com/congress-nonpartisan-research-arm-says-trump-dod-build-wall-without-state-emergency-congressional-approval/

I’d remind fellow Republicans not to throw in the towel and declare defeat when it’s only half-time.

The President absolutely needs to do whatever he needs to do to get the wall or barrier complete for many, many reasons, but first and foremost for the safety and security of our citizens and our country. Watched a special on MS13 gangs and the influx of gang members coming into our country from south of the border starting in 2009. Who was president then- Obama. Did he care? Absolutely not!!! President Trump is trying to do what I think most American want- secure our borders. Do the Democrats want that- absolutely not. They have a different ideology and agenda. So in the end, I suspect that the President will have to take another course of action, whether declaring the safety and security of our nation as a national emergency or something else. But looking for cooperation and support from Democrats, Obama appointed federal judges and the mainstream media- not going to happen. Wake up America and for those who don't want to see our country ruined and destroyed by the above Trump hating group of people- get behind the President. Too bad the vast majority of Republicans don't do the same, but don't depend on them anymore either.
I hope the President decides to give his State of the Union speech directly to the American people which will mean giving it from the Oval office or some other location, but not in front of Congress. Time will tell.

I think that the government should not be shut down. It’s not a mark of stability. So going on from there, but just a side note, Russia, China, Iran have not shut down their governments because The US has placed sanctions on them and Russia built a fence between Ukraine and Crimea without having to shut down their government. I know Russia is using the opportunity to improve themselves. 5.7 billion for a barrier at the Mexican border is way out there on price. Russia did it for 2.9 million for 37 miles. We have approximately 1,365 miles to go which equates to 110 million dollars give or take. We probably wouldn’t be able to get the same contractor as whom Russia hired though. LOL

I think I have figured out how Mexico will pay for a big, beautiful wall, however it is a sad way for it to happen. It seems that the Socialist Democrats are determined to take control of our USA and turn us into a socialist nation. If that happens in 2020, Mexico will be flooded with us conservatives seeking asylum below the southern border! God help us if we fall for any of these idiots lining up to run for president against President Trump! Never in my life have I seen such a time as this, with so many gullible people that might just make this nightmare a reality! Pray, Pray, Pray fellow Christians and begin to put legs to your prayers!

Great negotiators are usually great chess players, and I think President Trump is probably good at chess; he knows when to sacrifice a knight to win the game.

Good morning! I watched your show last evening...... I believe President Trump played his cards well...... It may look as a cave in, but is it? . I am sure the State of the Union address will bring out some sobering facts that Ms Pelosi and Mr Schumer may sort of choke on...... as in..... decrying the deal offered before it was even made public..... I stand by my President...... I thank you, Governor Huckabee, for presenting us the facts, and as you and the journalist from CBS stated last evening, the media MUST present "the facts, nothing but the facts, thank you Mam". We do not need THEIR opinions, we should be able to think and figure things out by ourselves. On another subject.... I was shocked to learn about the books used in schools to teach our young people..... so insidious!!!!!! so scary!!!!!!!

I think the “deal” is ingenious! Come up with the money in 3 weeks Dems or the President will just step over you and build the wall anyway. Way to go Mr. President! Put them in the hot seat.

Donald Trump has poured out his heart and soul for America. I voted for him because I trusted him to love America and do what’s right for America. I’m very proud of him as our President. He has fought hard for a border wall and I won’t abandon him if the Democrats refuse to be sensible and fair. President Trump is critized on a daily basis, lied about, ignored when he accomplishes wonderful things. I’m very proud to call Donald Trump my President and all those that fight so hard beside him.

Waiting another 3 weeks is a waste of time and might add holding it over govt workers is a crime within itself. Go for the emergency already! Congress will do NOTHING.

I think The President played it the correct way the “adult “ way he waited just enough to make Nancy look weaker among her fellow Congressal members and the public. He also waited long enough to gain support from some Dems on a Barrier , Wall whatever it’s called to get it where it’s needed!
The Dems are high fiving too soon they must now work or the country WILL see who they really are.

I think it was scary to hear Schumer say "I hope the president has learned his lesson." So arrogant and disrespectful. So childish to gloat. He should remember, "He who gloats last gloats longest." It's not over yet. In fact, it could be just about to really begin. Very unwise to think you have won a great victory when the teams are just about to run out onto the turf. If the press wasn't 100 per cent on his side he would have been ridiculed into silence.

I trust Donald Trump. He has a plan and I want to watch him get it done!! Nancy does not know which end is up. I think she has dementia. I don't know her diagnosis or underlying cause, but she tremors terribly and can't string two words together much less 2 sentences. Schumer is not much better but he just leers and watches. I hope they are either arrested for criminal activity or do not get reelected.

We need to pray for our nation and for President Trump. He has done so much for our country and the Dems just refuse to even met him half way. If the way President Trump and his family are treated had been done to Obama, there is no telling what would have happened. He is still our president regardless if you agree with every thing he does or not and should be respected. May God bless him and his family and keep them safe. Thank you Governor, enjoy your show, God bless you and your family. Give Sarah a hug we love her too she is doing a awesome job

Mike, I'm sure President Trump looks in occasionally on what you have to say.... Suggest to Mr. President that he should remove the word "wall" from his and the administration's vocabulary and replace it with "barrier". "Build a barrier" sounds as good as "build a wall". Call it what you may, I'm 100% behind stopping the influx of vermin from across the southern border. Thanks for keeping us informed of the Real Deal.

Praying for you and our great President and all the ones who are standing for keeping God in our country. I am so proud and humbled by our President's s actions and patience to lead our country and deal with these radical evil people. I feel like his willingness to cooperate with them but not to compromise on critical issues is a great sign of leadership and wisdom on his part.
I am concerned and praying about the Syrian issue. Desserting them sounds wrong.

You are so right. Too many Republicans have been so afraid about "taking the blame" for stern actions that they cave too early. Trump called the bluff of Pelosi and Schumer by re-opening the government first, and calling for negotiations to protect the people of the United States from those who do not have our best interests at heart when they cross our border illegally. He also made his best case yet for why we need physical and other barriers on our southern border. If he continues with speeches like that during the State of the Union, and with comments from the Border Patrol 'regulars' who actually are on the border, he will win this fight. He's done his job, as Commander in Chief; now let's see Congress do its job. If it doesn't, I propose that each member surrender his/her monthly salary until they do.

Build the Wall!!! I live in a community made of horse ranches with many of the laborer's being from Mexico. For years I asked their opinion on illegal immigration. People of many nationalities have the same basic opinion. If you come to America legally, wanting to assimilate as they did then great. However, if people come illegally with any other intentions they should be sent home. Immigrants who went thru the process of becoming a citizen of the Unites States of America have strong commitment and loyalty to our country and our flag. They want a safe place to raise their families and want our borders secured as much as you and I do.

Pelosie should payback all money spent on travel at Taxpayer expense and put it towards the wall. Congress should go without pay until an agreement is reached.
Thank you for accepting feedback. Feel free to share with our President.

I so wish there was a way to make the members of Congress go without pay for these three weeks or for longer if they don’t come up with a reasonable solution to the border concerns.

President Trump is right. We need a wall. Im glad he reopened the government for 3 weeks so the average american can get paid.
If there is another shutdown, make Congress be the ones to suffer by not paying them instead of the average americam

Thanks for all you do Mike, and for raising an amazing daughter like Sarah! I think your assessment of why our President opened the government back up is spot on and I totally trust he has a master plan I place that the majority have not figured out! He will get our wall built to keep the people safe, even Nancy Pelosi.

Initially, I was a bit disappointed by the President's apparent "cave-in" however, after a little consideration, a whole other view showed up. Trump is a pretty savvy guy when it comes to negotiations; this is not so much a "cave-in" as I would refer to it as a "tactical retreat." He has given the Democrats the opportunity to prove their intentions, one way or the other; and sufficient rope to hang themselves if they are not careful. Schumer's comment about the President "learning his lesson" implies his expectation that things will return to the previous administration's status quo. I think he is in for a big surprise. I expect Trump's actions, if the Democrats choose to stand their ground, to be swift and well thought out and of such a nature that the Democrats will be left with few options but crying.
