Christianity Today is lying to its readers

December 21, 2019 |

I’ve long noticed that about the only time the mainstream media give positive coverage anymore to people of faith is when they can find someone who will attack other people of faith, or who will take the leftist side in a political issue. So naturally, when the magazine Christianity Today, which was founded by the Rev. Billy Graham, published an editorial endorsing the impeachment and removal of President Trump, that got all kinds of media coverage.  The editor even cited Graham’s name.

That fired up the Rev. Franklin Graham, who wrote: “Yes, my father Billy Graham founded Christianity Today; but no, he would not agree with their opinion piece. In fact, he would be very disappointed.” He said Christianity Today had moved to the left and “now represents the elitist liberal wing of evangelicalism.” He pointed out that no Republicans, many of whom are strong Christians, were convinced by the “evidence,” and neither were a couple of Democrats. He called the impeachment vote “politically motivated, 100% partisan,” and said Trump has been a pro-life champion and a staunch defender of religious freedom.

He also revealed for the first time that his late father voted for Trump, believing him to be “the man for this hour in history for our nation.”

Now, I feel I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you the reason that Christianity Today gave for demanding Trump’s removal, so I will quote their editorial verbatim:

“But the facts in this instance are unambiguous: The president of the United States attempted to use his political power to coerce a foreign leader to harass and discredit one of the president’s political opponents. That is not only a violation of the Constitution; more importantly, it is profoundly immoral.”

My response: Weeks of the most partisan, rigged proceedings imaginable produced no evidence that Trump did that, beyond second- and third-hand hearsay.  All of the principals (including the Ukrainian President Trump was allegedly pressuring) denied it. None of the alleged “witnesses” actually witnessed anything.  The one person who claimed it was definitely true (and who turned out to be the poisoned well that was the source of all the other hearsay) folded like a garage sale card table under questioning, admitting that the one time he talked to Trump, Trump said the exact opposite and denied that he wanted any quid pro quo.

By claiming that the “facts are unambiguous” that Trump is guilty, Christianity Today is plainly lying to its readers. I find that to be profoundly immoral. Maybe they should drop the politics and get back to reading the Bible. If so, they might stumble across a line in Exodus that most of us know as the Eighth Commandment:

"Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor."

    So glad to hear someone say, we need to get back to the bible. It is hard enough going to church and no one takes their bible anymore. Just taking for granted what is projected on screen, is true and what was actually written. This is dangerous. Don't take for granted, just because information comes from a "Christian source" is true and correct.

    I find your hypocrisy absolutely astounding - you simply do not look at the facts. Donald J. Trump is a liar, without morals, ethics or honor. The most amazing thing is that I once thought you were a decent person. No more - you are cut from the same he is.

    Hi Mr. H:
    Sadly, one person at CT, decided to convict Pres. Trump. Is difficult to remember to pray for him and C.T. as well. The power of this world has taken a hold.

    Liberality is evident not only in the Christianity Today magazine, but also in the Southern Baptist Convention, as well as the other mainline denominations of Methodists, Episcopalians and Catholics. Apostasy is rampant just as we are told it would be in the end times. Why is anyone surprised by it?

    I believe that ms Pelosi should be removed from office. I also believe that ALL political offices should be limited to TWO terms of office only. Political leadership should NOT be a profession; it should be a privilege and upon completion return to private life.

    2 Thessalonians 2:1-3 King James Version (KJV)
    Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
    That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
    Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

    Words continue to be misleading and increasingly unbelievable especially coming from seemingly credible Christian sources. What would Jesus do? What would Jesus say? "Many would rather See a Sermon than Hear One." That is what the "New Promise Land Adventure" is all about. Rather than announce or promise anything in advance of its actual happening ... watch for "Evergreen Manna Farms" to appear on the World Scene. Our Agenda: Rescue, Rehabilitate and Restore humanity and the environment.

    I am NOT a strong supporter of Donald Trump. But I do support the President's efforts and wish him well in spite of many outrageous comments and a history of questionable virtue. I am a subscriber of Christianity Today and have been a reader most of my adult life since I am just a few years older than the magazine. However, Mark Galli has indeed missed the point and the purpose of CT. He has shaped the assumed facts into a statement that is unworthy of him and any Christian. I see a dark side behind the soon to be past Editor in Chief that is turning him into a tool of the father of lies. It is a shame because the magazine serves a much better purpose and mission than political rhetoric.

    They should just change the name of their publication to "Carnality Today." They may cover all religious news...but editorially they have not been the voice of evangelicalism for a long, long time.

    The Middle Eastern ideology of the Imams and ISIS terrorists has reached into so many areas since Obama supported and brought the people of this ideology into this country, as well as putting them into government offices. They have bought their way into football teams,universities, well known magazines, newspapers, radio, and TV, have they now extended their choking tentacles into Christian tabloids?

    It boggles the mind the number of people who are still insisting the "irrefutable" evidence that should impeach the President. They could not have watched the hearings where the left's own witnesses did NOT provide any evidence, and what the heck with "professors" being "witnesses" (3 with rather leftist slants on everything?) It's "deplorable," I must say, that people who should know better--politicians in Congress, a number of them lawyers themselves, and "investigative" reporters who didn't "investigate" the constitution nor that hearsay witness is NOT evidence, just ignore facts, law and the Constitution in their push for impeachment.

    Not only is it withholding the truth (lying) but you will never see an article like this printed or discussed in the fake news. The fake news is not looking for better understanding of events (news) they are looking for a narrative that will bring division and confusion. The fake news is actually undermining the people of the US with made up stories and out right lies.

    Thank God for people like you Governor! You stand in the gap for your President & tell the truth. The brainwashing taking place in todays world is frightening. I'm so thankful to know Jesus & be able to see through the smoke screens. Bless you!

    Mike;
    If you were to run for President you would have my vote even though I don't always agree with you. I didn't vote for President Trump in 2016 & won't vote for him in 2020 simply because I've actually researched his past. Boastful, proud, & arrogant are words that come to mind. I believe he's being played by Kim Jong-Un, Putin, & Erdogan. His ties to Russia are what really worries me. What I can't figure out is why the Republican Party is too gutless to stand up to the man. In the meantime, I will pray for him & for our country.

    From what I saw daily - the blubbering was on in my house almost every day -was pompous sanctimony by a bunch of politicians trying to convince whom ever was listening - that they were so self righteous and moral that they would never do any such thing - well most Americans are not stupid - we know how underhanded and self gratifying politics is - it is this way from small town USA to the top - keep feeding the dullards that think politics is above board and no one would do such a thing - once again have said it before in your comments - I just wanted to bang my head on the granite countertops - and had my bottle of extra strength Tylenol on hand.

    The establishment, as it is known, has elected to go against the Bible and every other moral aspect of life for personal gain. If they haven’t figured out that God has heard the cry of his people by now, they probably never will. The half-baked Christians leaning towards personal agendas rather than Gods word will soon find out that you don’t play “tug of war” with God.

    Evangelical's slavish devotion to a man, instead of Jesus will spell the demise of their church. Evangelicals for Trump are not Christians. They're Trumpians. They have abandoned the Messiah's teachings for an Orange buffoon. Woo to you, evangelicals and pharissees, hypcites, you will find your just deserts, in the next life, unless you repent and renounce the anti-Chirst, in the form of Trump, and Huckabee, that you have so faithfully followed

    Amen! Jesus was all about the Cross, redemption, salvation - the Gospel. CT has moved to politics, something I observe the Bible teaches that Jesus was never drawn into by anyone. I’ve requested my CT subscription be canceled immediately. Let’s see if CT actually has the “moral” character to do so. I’m not holding my breath!
