Late Thursday, Washington was rocked and the Democrats’ media sycophants were rolled by the news that U.S. Attorney John Durham's probe into potential FBI and DOJ misconduct from before the 2016 election through early 2017 has officially shifted from an “administrative review” to a full-scale criminal investigation. That means Durham can subpoena witnesses, file charges, and impanel grand juries.
Fox News reported that “Durham's probe had expanded significantly based on new evidence uncovered during a recent trip to Rome with Attorney General Bill Barr.” One Fox source claimed that DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz's upcoming report on alleged FBI surveillance abuses against the Trump campaign would be coming out very soon with few redactions, and it would shed light on why Durham’s probe is now a criminal investigation.
Not surprisingly, the New York Times tried to frame the news as Barr and Durham enacting political retribution on Trump’s attackers (funny how they first claimed there were no Deep State attackers, now they praise them and claim that holding them to account for any crimes they committed is “retribution” against people they claimed didn’t exist for doing things they claimed never happened.) Equally predictably, pantomime impeachment pushers Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler issued a statement to try to preemptively tar the investigators’ motives, reading in part, “If the Department of Justice may be used as a tool of political retribution, or to help the President with a political narrative for the next election, the rule of law will suffer new and irreparable damage.”
(Pause for you to stop laughing.)
They then quickly scurried back to their locked-door, double super-secret impeachment hearings where only they are allowed to question witnesses and selectively leak testimony and the President has no legal representation or due process rights. Proving the ever-more-obvious truism that if you want to know what the Democrats are doing these days, just listen to what they accuse Trump of doing.
(On a side note, I love how all these reports tell us that the Rogue’s Gallery of Deep Staters we’ve all come to know are “lawyering up.” Hey, why do they need lawyers? It’s only an investigation, not a trial! Shouldn’t they have to be questioned separately, in secret and without lawyers present, to ensure they don’t “coordinate their stories?” Later, if they go to trial, that’s when they can have lawyers. I’ve been hearing that garbage from all sorts of pompous media lefties all week long about the House impeachment circus, and I now expect it to be reeled in faster than a six-ounce trout.)
At this writing, this is still a breaking story, so I’ll have to see what details emerge and write about it in more depth later. For now, here’s the Fox News write-up on what we know so far.

ConservativeTreehouse.com explains how the New York Times is attempting to spin the story to downplay it and protect the Democrats, including an exculpatory claim that the CT author shows is “demonstrably false.”
Finally, for a take on this subject that’s actually a fun read, check out Roger L. Simon’s explanation of who are the biggest losers in the announcement of the criminal investigation: the mainstream media. They’ve spent the past three years exhibiting criminal incompetence by missing the real story while pumping out partisan propaganda and fake narratives. This is worth reading just for Simon’s description of Adam Schiff as the Democrats’ “junior league Southern California Torquemada.”

This is only the beginning. It looks as if there are a lot more shoes still to drop, and let’s hope a lot of people in Washington will be getting the boot.
