Kudos to Boston College philosophy Professor Kerry Cronin, who is trying to counter the drunken, hyper-sexualized “hook-up” culture on campus by offering students extra credit to go on an old-fashioned style date. That means ginning up the courage to ask someone out (while sober), learning not to fear rejection if told no (I assume that means girls are also expected not to file harassment charges if they are asked out by someone they don’t like); and if the date is accepted, going out to enjoy a mutual activity without getting drunk and having sex.

Cronin says this isn’t so much about meeting your soul mate as it is about developing a thicker skin and learning to deal with the “foibles and the hard work and the joys and the despair” of dating. In other words, learning to be an adult, which today's students are making it all the way through college without grasping (she recently discovered that many of her students had reached their senior year without once going on a real date.)

It’s funny, we keep being told that high school students are wise enough that we need to lower the voting age to 16 and let them write our laws and rewrite the Constitution. At the same time, we have to provide young adults in college with safe spaces equipped with Play-Doh and crayons, give them remedial lessons in how to go to dinner together and hold a conversation, and keep them on our insurance as dependent children until they’re old enough to qualify for Medicare. I just want to know: what is causing so many of the younger generation apparently to suffer serious brain damage between high school and college? Is it all the drinking at the proms?

Governor Huckabee, you crack me up! Isn't it ridiculous how the colleges and universities are treating these kids?! I have a grandson who is headed to college next year and believe me he is ready for it. He is ready for the world because he sat down at dinner with his parents every night and had conversations with them. If they don't have a strong foundation when they go to these liberal colleges then they can be easily influenced by these professors and their peers to question establishment. I am so happy that Trump was elected president. He has given a voice to regular Americans. And a note to you, Governor Huckabee, I pray that your show on TBN will continue for a long, long time. I forward your Facebook postings to all of my friends every week. Keep up the good work!
