With Election Day coming tomorrow, I specifically want to address younger readers. If you’re not one, then please put this in front of someone who is:
Young Americans don’t have the benefit of the life experience the rest of us do, in having repeatedly lived through the cycle of leftist policies failing and conservatives having to fix things, only to have leftist policies get voted back in and crash things again. It’s like having a drunk in your car pool who insists on sharing in the driving occasionally. This is why the left targets the young so hard: they don't have that frame of reference to help them recognize the scam and not click on it.
Sadly, they’ve also been let down by the education system and the media, who have tried their best to fill their heads with false notions, from Howard Zinn-inspired “America is to blame for all the problems of the world” nonsense to the virtues of “Democratic socialism.” Let me assure you, socialism is not “progressive.” It’s been around for over a century and created nothing but poverty, misery and corruption everywhere it’s been tried (please don’t point to Scandinavian countries as examples of it working; they’ll kick you in the fjords if they hear you call them “socialist.”)
Tomorrow is Election Day
By Mike Huckabee
Tomorrow is Election Day. It’s your last chance to have a say in whether we continue President Trump’s policies (projecting strength in the world and prioritizing America’s interests over other nations’ in trade deals; securing the borders; deporting violent criminals; protecting Constitutional rights; and creating jobs, economic growth and rising wages) or we return to what we had for eight years (“leading from behind” and projecting weakness; open borders and “sanctuary cities;” treating the Constitution as an easily-ignored suggestion; trampling on the rights of people of faith; and having to work three part-time jobs to put food on the table.)
America has enjoyed an almost miraculous turnaround in the past two years, despite President Trump being hampered in every way possible, from groundless partisan “investigations” to political leaders trying to gin up violence against their opponents to an absolutely unhinged entertainment and news media churning out anti-Trump propaganda and ridicule 24/7. Yet here is what he’s managed to accomplish so far, even with all those hounds baying at him:
Even some of his biggest detractors on both the right and left have started to admit that they were wrong about Trump not intending to keep his campaign promises. He’s kept an astonishing number of them, and made major headway in his vow to “Make America Great Again.” Those he hasn’t kept were because he didn’t have the cooperation of Congress. Imagine what he’ll get from Congress if Democrats take over one or both Houses.
And a special reminder to faith voters: There are 90 million committed Christians registered to vote in the US. If they all voted, there is virtually no election they could not decide. Yet in 2012, when President Obama was reelected by about 5 million votes (and went on to target religious freedom rights in numerous ways), 25 million Christian registered voters didn't bother to go to the polls. If you don't vote, then you have no say in what happens to you, nor any room to complain about it. Remember, the Lord helps those who help themselves, and the #1 way you can help protect your rights and your values is to rise from the couch and go to the polls. And take at least three fellow Christians with you.
Obama: Vote Democrat to help Cuba
By Mike Huckabee
Former President Barack Obama, campaigning in Florida, told voters to elect Democrats because they won’t be hard on the oppressive communist government of Cuba and impose sanctions to force them to give their people human rights. As Obama put it, “We need to get back to politics that’s for the Cuban people, make their lives better. That’s change.”
Well, it’s change, all right. One could argue that it’s a big “change” for a United States President to urge Americans to elect people based on how much better they’ll make the lives of residents of other countries. Of course, it’s not a change from what he did, which was give us eight years of American decline and acquiescence to tyrants in other nations. I can only remind voters that that’s why so many of you were so anxious for a big “change” from him just a couple of years ago.
North Dakota voter suppression
By Mike Huckabee
Every time Republicans try to impose the most basic safeguards to insure that people voting are doing so legally, or are not voting multiple times, or are actually alive, Democrats scream, “Voter suppression!” To justify this, they fall back on the insulting tacit racism of claiming that minority voters have a harder time obtaining any form of ID, even when states provide them free (interestingly, Pew Research reports that over 95% of Americans have somehow been able to obtain a cell phone.) It would be more honest if they just screamed about voter ID laws suppressing the Democratic votes of cemetery residents.
That’s why we should be grateful to the North Dakota Democratic Party for giving us an honest-to-goodness example of real, naked voter suppression. It came in the form of this Facebook ad:
“ATTENTION HUNTERS: If you vote in North Dakota, you may forfeit hunting licenses you have in other states. If you want to keep your out-of-state hunting licenses, you may not want to vote in North Dakota… You MUST be a resident of North Dakota to vote here. And if you are a resident of North Dakota, you may lose hunting licenses you have in other states.”
Both the Secretary of State and a spokesman for North Dakota Gaming & Fish said they’ve never heard of this and PolitiFact gave it a “pants on fire” rating; but Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp defended it. She said, “Voting means you are a resident,” and “if you want a residential hunting license in Minnesota, it means you’re not going to get that, if you vote here.”
Except, of course, North Dakotans can easily get non-resident hunting licenses in other states, and the ad attempts to scare and bamboozle them into falsely believing they’ll lose them if they vote.
So more accurately, what the ad means is that Democrats are desperate to prevent hunters from voting. I hope all hunters will hear that message, surmise what the Democrats plan to do about gun and hunting laws if they’re elected, and vote accordingly.
Secure the border
By Mike Huckabee
As the migrant caravans heading north toward the US have grown bigger, President Trump has vowed to send thousands of troops to secure the border. It’s a move that’s caused Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) to brand him as cruel and heartless, sending soldiers to prevent all those poor, downtrodden women and children from receiving asylum (which they could have had in Mexico, but refused.) But Democrats really need to learn: before picking a campaign issue, find out how all those Deplorables out in America feel about it. In this case, they’re solidly on Trump’s side, and I mean surprisingly solidly.
A new Zogby poll found that 57% of Americans agree that it’s a good idea to send troops to stop the caravan from streaming into the US. Digging deeper, it gets even worse for the open borders left. Ninety-one percent of Republicans, 53% of Independents and even 31% of Democrats agree with sending troops to the border. Even 51% of Hispanics agree, and that includes 30% who strongly agree.
It shows once again the folly of thinking that just because someone is a member of a particular ethnic group, you can assume you know what they’ll think about an issue. That used to be called "stereotyping;" i.e., “racism.”
It also shows how far to the left the Democratic leadership and the media have veered, and how out-of-touch they are with most Americans, that they would go ballistic over the unthinkable outrage of the Commander-in-Chief using troops to keep a large mass of people from another country from invading our homeland. Wasn’t that the original reason for having troops?
Is the era of no consequences for rotten behavior coming to an end?
By Mike Huckabee
It’s long, long overdue, but it appears that the era of no consequences for rotten behavior may finally be coming to a close. Latest example:
Last week at Florida State University, the College Republicans were holding a “get out the vote” display when a leftist female student accosted them. She accused them of being supporters of fascists and Nazis like the murderer of Jews in Pittsburgh. When they asked what her hammer-and-sickle pin meant, she responded in profane language that she was a supporter of communism and threw her drink (chocolate milk, believe it or not) on the Republicans and stalked off, kicking one of their signs as she went.
Unfortunately for her, but fortunately for the return of consequences, her tantrum was captured on video and went viral. She was identified as 19-year-old FSU student Shelby Shoup, a strident liberal activist who’s organized “Abolish ICE” rallies and declared that “we need to tear the whole system down.” But for the moment, at least, the system is intact, and she was arrested and is now facing battery charges.
One of the Republicans she allegedly attacked and called a Nazi supporter happens to be Jewish. He said, “She doesn’t even know what fascism and Nazis are. I want to spread love. We can’t be throwing chocolate at each other on campus. That’s unacceptable.”
You’d think that by the time someone got to college, they’d know certain things already: “Don’t have a tantrum, don’t say naughty words and don’t throw your chocolate milk at others.” Talk about things you should’ve learned in kindergarten!
Well, her parents didn’t teach it to her, her schools didn’t teach it to her, so maybe the legal system finally will.
