Today's Commentary:  President Trump is growing as a leader-- Can't get it done -- What the CBO report really says -- Maxine Waters -- George Clooney smartens up (sort of)

President Trump’s scheduled 30-minute talk with Vladimir Putin stretched to over two hours and covered a lot of major ground, including Trump confronting Putin about Russian election interference and an agreement for an almost immediate cease-fire in the Syrian civil war, which will also involve Israel and Jordan. We’ve heard agreements like this before, and it doesn’t change the fact that the US still wants Syrian President Bashar al-Assad gone while Russia backs him. So who knows how long it will last?

Still, it shows that despite every effort by the media to delegitimize him, Trump is continuing to grow in the job, as he goes toe-to-toe with other world leaders, defends America’s interests, and wrings concessions out of them in negotiations that the previous President didn’t even dare ask for. Media figures who continue treating Trump with arrogant disdain, as if he’s not really President, may soon wake up and find themselves looking as pathetically outdated as a faded “Kerry/Edwards” bumper sticker on a Prius in Portland.

Can't get it done

By Mike Huckabee

After seven years of promising voters that if they only had the power, they’d repeal Obamacare, Republicans finally got the power – and now, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell can’t seem to scrape up enough support to get it done. Instead, there’s talk of “working with Democrats” to “stabilize the Obamacare exchanges,” which are collapsing on their own due to skyrocketing premium hikes, insurer defections and consumer resentment.

What the CBO report really says

By Mike Huckabee

Pouring even more hundreds of billions of tax dollars down the rat hole of Obamacare would be like giving a contractor ten million bucks to really gussy up your dilapidated 1962 trailer house. Yes, Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) are trumpeting polls showing that support for Obamacare is up, but that’s only because all anyone has heard for the past seven months is that the CBO says the Senate Republican plan to replace it will leave 22 million people uninsured and everyone is going to “DIE!!!” Maybe that’s why Republicans are so spooked about getting rid of this fatally-flawed, government-bloating money sink of a law. Or maybe some have just resigned themselves to the idea that now that it’s here, it’s too politically risky ever to take it away.

Here’s an article that provides a dose of cold truth to counteract all the lies, hype and fearmongering, and I hope, to put some starch back into GOP spines. It notes all the things the public isn’t being told about the CBO report on the Republican plan. For instance, how many of those “22 million uninsured” will be illegal aliens or legal non-citizens. Or people who voluntarily stop buying policies they don’t want or need once the government is no longer forcing them to Also, did you know that the 22 million people the CBO considers “uninsured” includes those who do have policies they like that just don’t meet the one-size-fits-all government standards for “essential health benefits,” such as prostate test coverage for women, pregnancy care for middle-aged men, alcohol rehab for teetotalers, and all the other federally-mandated benefits that healthy people are expected to pay out the nose for, even if they’ll never use them in a million years.

President Trump’s trip to Europe has brought us a fresh wave of fake news from abroad, but make no mistake: we’re still getting plenty of it right here at home about Obamacare, enough to convince some people who should know better than they’ll die if they aren’t forced to pay ridiculous premiums for policies that include useless benefits -- but that have such high deductibles that even if a middle-aged man did somehow manage to get pregnant, he’d go bankrupt before his prenatal coverage kicked in.

To the Republicans who think that they can break their #1 promise to the voters and somehow keep a worthless, intrusive, failed government program afloat by throwing a mountain of other people’s money at it, I suggest you consider becoming Democrats. You’ll fit right in, and I wouldn’t count on getting much of the Republican vote next time around anyway.

Maxine Waters

By Mike Huckabee

Every time Rep. Maxine Waters opens her mouth, she makes news, the same way it’s news every time a hurricane blows mud all over everything. This week, in between accusing the President of being “crazy” and “abnormal” and deserving impeachment for unspecified reasons, Hurricane Maxine also blasted HUD Secretary Dr. Ben Carson, making a threat against him that I won’t repeat and accusing him of knowing and caring nothing about poor people in inner city housing. Which is odd, considering he grew up poor in Detroit and Boston.

Meanwhile, as this story notes, Rep. Waters represents a poor, heavily-black district, yet lives in a nearly all-white neighborhood in a $4.3 million mansion that she is somehow able to afford after 40 years as a “public servant.”

Quick, which is crazier: Donald Trump, or the idea that Maxine Waters has been elected and reelected to positions of public trust for 40 years?

George Clooney smartens up (sort of)

By Mike Huckabee

George Clooney has been one of Hollywood’s most outspoken critics of President Trump’s efforts to protect the US borders and homeland from terrorist threats. He praised Angela Merkel’s open borders policy in Germany and said the US wasn’t doing enough to take in migrants and refugees.

But oh, how becoming a father focuses the mind! After Clooney got married and his wife became pregnant with twins, he hired ex-Secret Service agents to bolster their security. Now, in the wake of multiple terrorist attacks in Great Britain, he’s reportedly considering getting his family out of there and back to the good ol’ (xenophobic) USA. A source allegedly close to Clooney’s family was quoted as saying, “He’s waited so long for this family, he’ll do whatever it takes to keep them safe.”

Perfectly understandable. But maybe Mr. Clooney and his many liberal friends in the entertainment industry might also concede that the same is true of every father and mother in America. We’re all willing to do whatever it takes to keep our kids safe from violent attackers. Especially if that includes something as simple as not opening up the borders and waving them on in.

Mitch McConnell and the Republicans should be embarrassed. Reach out to the Democrats??? What is being proven is these Republicans cannot govern. The message sent in Nov. was less government and spending. Expansion of Medicaid is the wrong direction. Very, very disappointing!

I'd love to read the rest of the CBO article but there isn't a link. Can you share the link, please? I want to share this on Facebook but not without the link.

Love you Mike, but with the exception of our President, Donald J. Trump, I will not donate to any Republican (or Democrat) until I see that tax relief gets done and they better get it done soon.

As to health care, they promised to repeal obamacare in January. One more strike against the Republicans. A third strike against them and they are out.

Why throw good money down a rat hole, they have stolen enough from the taxpayers already.

Time to form the "Great American Party".

It's not that obama didn't dare ask for things, obama's only concern seemed to be to apologize about America--you know, how bad we are, etc etc etc. So bad that people are coming here illegally, huh?

Re:health care. Don't forget the mantra that the replacement for obama care is only going to benefit the rich people in tax breaks. In addition to all the garbage you all ready listed that they are coming up with. And, at what point does it become a problem that people can no longer afford the premiums and ever rising deductibles in the obamacare package? That will surely affect a big number of the crybabies.

Maxine--smh. Just smh!!! I would suggest someone sit her down and make her view all of the interviews and other on-camera appearances. Of course, I think the fact that there really isn't any word to describe her would go right over her head. Maybe someone needs to sit her down and force her to read things like this.

Wonder if clooney's sudden interest in security (seems like for his family, maybe still not any one else) was influenced by the refugees camped out near his mansion with it's security fences in Italy or wherever? Unfortunately, the majority of the US citizens can't afford to hire ex-Secret Service body guards--armed, I am sure. Hmmm.....would he be allowed this kind of security in some other country? I guess he probably could, he could pay money to any government for an exception to any law.
