When Attorney Gen. Jeff Sessions sat for questioning by the House Judiciary Committee, it was a study in contrasts.

Most of the Democrats enjoyed channeling their inner prosecuting attorney, firing off questions that had already been “asked and answered” multiple times, trying to lay traps by demanding one-word answers to complicated questions, and cutting answers off mid-sentence or even mid-word. We’ve seen it before: extreme rudeness towards Republicans is the way to become a star of the Democratic Party. At Tuesday’s hearing, Sessions was expected (as before, with the Senate) to interpret questions not as he understood them but exactly as the speaker meant them; at the same time, it wasn’t acceptable for him to correct previous answers –- not even in light of a better understanding of the questioner’s original intent or simply to reflect an improved memory. As for memory, he was supposed to have truly amazing recall, leading him to joke to Republican Rep. Darrell Issa, after Issa quipped that he himself didn’t speak Russian and had had no contacts with Russians, something like (paraphrasing here) “Well, I’ll bet you HAVE met some Russians and just don’t remember!” Great line!

It’s interesting to contrast the dark, rapid-fire “gotcha” game of Democrats with the attorney general’s polite, reserved and maddeningly (to them) languid communication style. Those of you old enough to remember hearing the screamingly funny Bob & Ray on the radio might think he’s a member of the “Slow Talkers Of America,” as in slow…...talkers…...of……..America. That’s not filibustering –- it’s just the way he naturally talks. The man is from Alabama and speaks like a true Southern gentleman. His style is deliberate, low-key and...slow. But the Democrats can’t endure waiting while he tries to formulate the accurate answer they say they want; no, they want a quick yes-or-no that they can challenge later, and more time on the clock for their own grandstanding. They’re also frustrated that so many investigation details remain classified or similarly under wraps. But, hey, that’s the way it is.

It’s fair to say that some Republicans on the committee got impatient with Sessions, too --- not so much for his drawn-out speech but for his apparent hesitation to appoint a special counsel to investigate Uranium One and myriad other Hillary-related matters. But legal-eagle Andrew McCarthy at NATIONAL REVIEW has a few words of caution for Republicans: first, that the FBI may already be digging into all that –- it’s supposed to be secret, you know –- with no special counsel needed (he explains why); second, that the GOP should avoid even the appearance of politicizing their call for more investigating if they don’t want to hurt their case. Listening, Republicans?

While Sessions admitted he’s had trouble remembering every detail of who was at which meeting and what words they might have exchanged in passing during a “chaotic” (his word) campaign over a year ago, he made clear, very forcefully, his devotion to the truth and his commitment to relating it as accurately as he can. So, to Democrats: you have become tiresome. You're transparent as can be, not to mention just flat-out rude. Before you all have embolisms waiting for the attorney general to finish a sentence, y'all might want to sit back and relax with a nice mint julep. Make mine a sweet tea.

Hard to believe any investigations would be underway that has NOT been leaked? there are still so many holdovers (even in the utmost of importance departments) that it would be most difficult to do anything that wouldnt be known on the medias! Or maybe when it is an investigation of their side, they only let the person/persons being investigated know so that they get a heads up to get rid of evidence!!! that has been their way in the past! Our government is so corrupt, hopefully the prayer warriors are very busy!!

Thanks for your up to the minute thoughts of what's going on with all politicians. As for Jeff Sessions, I love his style of dealing with the questions.

You are spot on in your comments. I’ve personally known Jeff for over 30 years and he is an honest man. He speaks the truth and seeks the truth.

Hadn't given thought to your point that an investigation may already be underway. I hope so. My confidence in AG Sessions has diminished slightly; but I do believe he is doing what he must in his position. As for the Democrats and the few RINOs, your comment is spot on ...... you are becoming tiresome to us.

I listen to Fox News on the radio, and I thought it was hilarious listening to the frustration of the left when they couldn't get General Sessions to answer a "yes" or "no" to their questions. He is certainly an expert at using up their allotted time and making them fume even more.

Tell them to serve a warrant or let him go. Witch hunting is a sham. The FBI and CIA are of the Obama administration and let so many felonies slide that they can't be trusted on any level. And what was once the democrat party is now without any recognizable identity.

I enjoy reading your take on what's going on in Washington. Country wisdom and humor at its best. I don't think the professional politicians realize that Trump was voted in to bring order to what has become a ladies sewing circle and gossip mill. We are tired of the BS that has been stinking up the air. We've lost a lot of good congressmen because of the lack of respect and polite discourse. It's time Congress stopped playing Us v them and started working for the country.

At first I thought Sessions was good news, but now I think Trump needs to give him the heave-ho. He seems to be a total wimp that doesn't want to do anything. Just a typical politician. Fire him and replace him with someone who will.

Doing some research and saw that you "almost" wished that all Americans be forced at gunpoint to watch all of David Barton's tapes. Would you write an article addressing the problems of Christian revisionist history please. Best wishes to Sarah. Lord, that girl can lie through her teeth. You must be so proud.

Thank you Gov Huckabee for your wonderful news letter. You truly are an inspiration! Thank you for your strong faith and good moral character. You were my choice for president in the 2016 election. I’m so tired of all this fake news!
    Respectfully, Carol Stonelake

As favorable light that you put Sessions in, he has NOT done much of anything most of us expected. He doesn't want to right any of the wrongs of the Obama admin, he doesn't want to back his president, he doesn't want to investigate the Clintons or anyone else. I know I'm far from alone in asking for his head if he doesn't start doing something.

Mike, I am so tired of all the questions ask by the Democrats it is same thing over and over again. You know it takes the Congress men and women and The Senators so long to do a job that they have even forgotten what they were debating and what they wanted to vote on. If it had taken me a year or more to do my job I would have been fired. And it is beyond me how anyone of the American Citizens can be dumb enough to vote for anyone in office at this time. That includes both Democrats and Republicans. Now the Democrats have run out of anything of stability to argue so it is now Impeach our wonderful God fearing President who is doing a great job even with all the crap being thrown at him and his family and his cabinet members. I pray so hard. I do hope you will read what a 77 year old woman is trying to say, I am crying right now for Donald Trump that he will be kept safe from harm of all the hate. And you and your Daughter Sarah are so strong in Christian faith we thank you.
