Over the weekend, I had a brush with one of those Twitter storms so many people fear these days, and I had a reminder of why they don’t really matter at all.

Many people are skeptical of CNN’s claim that they did not get a leaked “tip” from the FBI or Mueller’s team to have a camera crew on Trump adviser Roger Stone’s lawn before dawn Friday when the FBI conducted what should have been a top-secret raid to serve him with seven indictments in the Mueller investigation (actually, there never should have been any such armed raid.  Stone is a 66-year-old, nonviolent alleged offender with no criminal record or current passport who had already offered to voluntarily turn himself in.  Bursting into his home with that kind of firepower was political theater designed to pressure Stone and make headlines.  It was not only unconscionable treatment of an American citizen, it was also reckless and dangerous: Stone’s wife is deaf, and agents waving guns were yelling instructions at her that she couldn’t hear.  Thank God nobody was killed as a result of that outrageous, unnecessary stunt.  Someone should be fired over it, at the very least.)

International Holocaust Remembrance Day

By Mike Huckabee

Sunday was International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the day set aside by the UN to remember all the victims of the Nazis in World War II, including approximately 6 million Jews. The date was chosen because on January 27, 1945, Russia’s Red Army liberated the largest of the concentration/death camps, Auschwitz-Birkenau, which alone was responsible for the deaths over a million people.  (The official US observance is the 8-day Days of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust, which starts in April on the Sunday before the Jewish observance of Yom HaShoah.)

This year, surviving former Auschwitz prisoners gathered there to mark the 74th anniversary of their liberation.  It’s especially important now to hold such remembrances and give them as much attention as we can because the world is in danger of letting the vows of “Never forget” and “Never again” slip away into history.  Today, we see anti-Semitism back on the rise, not just on the right but on the left, from the leaders of the Women’s March to some recently-elected “progressive” Congress members.  Anti-Semitism, like all bigotry, and Holocaust denial find a fertile field in ignorance, and sadly, many young people are not being taught what actually happened during those dark times.  To them, “Hitler” is just a bad name that they call anyone who disagrees with their politics.

Reader comment nails the way many of us are feeling

By Mike Huckabee

I get so many letters from frustrated readers like Barbara that I thought it might be good to pass hers along, as food for thought. (Some editing has been done for clarity and length.) Barbara seems to have taken a stab at writing the Republican Party platform for 2020 --- although good luck getting money out of politics! And we’d need hard-won constitutional amendments to implement term limits and upper age limits. In many ways, though, she does reflect what’s important to all of us who care about the law, the Constitution, and basic morality and ethics.

Barbara votes for “the person” and voted for Obama; I’m sure now she can see that he wasn’t about to put through any of the reforms she lists here, and, in fact, worked actively against some of them. On the other hand, we’ve seen that even with Republicans in the House, Senate and White House (as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez would call them, the three branches of government), our own party didn’t make much of a dent. We had big expectations but face huge political barriers to reform. (If only we had a barrier at the border as effective as these!) Legislators had the chance to pass some of the things Barbara suggests here, and they didn’t address them. And now, with Democrats controlling the House, we’re even farther away from making badly needed changes.

A must-see interview on the corrupt DOJ bureaucracy

By Mike Huckabee

“We have just witnessed the unprecedented politicization and weaponization of every federal agency under President Obama, and the worst ever of the Department of Justice and the FBI.”

So says Sidney Powell, a former federal prosecutor who worked at the DOJ for ten years, in three federal districts under nine U.S. attorneys who were appointed by Presidents of both parties. She’s been lead counsel in over 500 federal appeals. Along with her impressive resume, she’s the author of “LICENSED TO LIE: Exposing Corruption In The Department Of Justice.

I recommend her book highly, but if you don’t have the time or inclination to get into that level of detail, at least watch her interview with Mark Levin from Sunday’s LIFE, LIBERTY & LEVIN. In fact, I’d say it’s a must-see for important background on the special counsel investigation of President Trump.

Not throwing in the towel

By Mike Huckabee

I assured Republicans last week that simply because President Trump saw he didn’t have a strong enough hand to win the shutdown battle at this point and agreed to a three-week temporary budget deal, that didn’t mean he was giving up on the border wall or capitulating to Nancy Pelosi.  This is half-time, not the end of the game.  He now gets to make his State of the Union Address, and I would be very surprised if a large portion of it weren’t devoted to the need for more border security -- or if he didn’t fill the gallery with family members of people murdered by criminal illegal immigrants who should have been kept out or deported, just to publicly shame the Democrats and make the point that to these grieving families, the crisis is not “manufactured.”

To prove my point, here is how Trump is kicking off the first day of this three-week “halftime.”  Doesn't sound to me like he's thrown in the towel:

Melania Trump wins an apology

By Mike Huckabee

Here is your feel-good story of the day. While all the women’s magazine editors have spent more than two years acting like high school “mean girls” and refusing to put our stylish, gracious, intelligent, accomplished and beautiful First Lady on any magazine covers, the publications that have run stories on her thought it was their duty to perform character assassinations.

Well, add to her many admirable qualities her backbone.  She refuses to allow vicious lies about her and her family to stand.  Here’s her latest victory:

This isn’t the first time she’s won an apology/retraction and “substantial damages” from British media outlets that slandered her.  It's much harder here, but President Trump has talked about changing libel laws to make it easier to sue publications in America, where public figures have less legal protection.

I would be wary of that because I’m a strong supporter of freedom of the press and the First Amendment.  The news media claim a special exemption to libel charges because they claim to be in the hallowed profession of journalism.  Still, it’s become obvious in recent years that many media outlets are no longer professional or journalism.  They’re just PR wings of the Democratic Party with no more regard for facts or truth than a British tabloid.

If they want to continue enjoying the legal protections afforded to those who are charged with telling Americans the truth, then they should get back to practicing the truth business, not the slimy racquets of slander and propaganda.

Survey results

By Mike Huckabee

With the shutting down of all non-Trump Congressional investigations, do you think the new attorney general should appoint a special counsel/special ethics committee to investigate Hillary and her 2016 campaign?

14,971 YES VOTES

Pretty conclusive.

New York to spend millions on...

By Mike Huckabee

Democrats in New York finally sealed their control over both houses of the legislature and the Governor’s seat, so anyone who is thinking for voting for them on the national level in 2020 should look upon their state-level works and despair.  Any New Yorker who seriously thought that voting for Democrats meant voting for reason, bipartisanship and responsible governance must be feeling like the rube who spent his life savings buying the Brooklyn Bridge.

Hot on the heels of legalizing abortion right up to the moment of birth, New York’s Democratic lawmakers are now moving to spend 27 million taxpayer dollars (or as I’d call that, “the opening down payment”) on college financial aid to illegal immigrants.  Add this to the “sanctuary” policy and “free” health care that New York City Mayor Bill deBlasio is granting to illegal immigrants – along with the minimum wage hike that’s killing small businesses and his threat to seize the private property of what he determines to be “bad” landlords – and the former Empire State may soon become the Revolving Door State, attracting illegal residents and homeless people by the thousands while productive citizens flee to successful and more intelligently-governed red states.

This message can’t be stressed enough to those economic refugees: While the red states welcome you, for your own good and the good of your new home, do NOT vote for the same kind of leftist politicians and failed policies that ruined the place you just had to escape from.
