Today's Edition: 6 minute read

Late this week, China announced new tariffs on $75 billion worth of US goods, and President Trump angrily retaliated by announcing raises in the tariffs he’s already placed on many goods from China.

Trump also tweeted that he “hereby ordered” American companies to start looking for alternatives to China and bringing their jobs back to America

That order brought on the usual mockery from the left (“delusions of thinking he has that power”) and fury from the right (“Presidents shouldn’t interfere with private sector business decisions.”) But I like to deal with reality, so just to be clear:

Must-see video

By Mike Huckabee

Turning Point USA’s Rob Smith, an Iraq war vet who bills himself as “America’s favorite gay, black Republican,” tracked down a number of Democratic Presidential candidates.  He first got them to confirm that they agree with the proposal to pay African-Americans reparations for slavery.  Then he asked if they’d be willing to give him some of that money now, out of their own pockets.

https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/video-black-guy-asks-pro-reparations-2020-dems-money-gets-turned-every-single-time/

I’m sure it won’t surprise my readers to hear that every last Democrat who is so eager to pay reparations said “no” to giving him any of their own money. Maybe referred him to "the legislation," meaning their plan to pay with other people's money. Why do I suspect that you’d get the same turndown if you asked any of them for help paying your student loans or your medical bills – even the ones who are rich and have multiple homes, like socialist Bernie Sanders?

This backs up what previous studies of charitable giving have shown: conservatives show compassion by giving their own money to those in need, while leftists measure compassion by how eager you are to take other people’s money and give it to causes you think they ought to support.

Congratulations

By Mike Huckabee

Congratulations to “Huckabee” staffer Laura Ainsworth, for whom writing topical comedy and commentary is her “day job” when not singing and recording retro jazz music inspired by her late father, big band musician Billy Ainsworth.  It was just announced that she’s been nominated for two 2019 Artists Music Guild Heritage Awards for Female Vocalist and Video of the Year (for “Where Did The Magic Go?”), to be presented at a nationally-televised ceremony in November in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Artists Music Guild (https://artistsmusicguild.com) is a non-profit organization founded by multi-award-winning Christian singer/songwriter/producer David L. Cook to mentor and promote up-and-coming indie artists and support arts education among students.  Last year, Laura won an unprecedented three AMG Heritage Awards (out of five nominations) for Female Vocalist, Video (“That’s How I Got My Start”) and Album of the Year (“New Vintage.”)  “New Vintage” also scored Laura numerous other indie music nominations and awards, and a profile in Downbeat magazine. The “Huckabee” family is seriously teeming with talent!

To see her nominated video and find her terrific recordings on CD, vinyl and digital download, visit her website at www.lauraainsworth.com.

##Appellation##, I wanted to make sure you also read these comments:

President Trump is in France this weekend for a G7 summit.  Before leaving Friday night, he made some comments to reporters on a number of issues, from the ongoing trade war with China to his annoyance with the Fed for not lowering interest rates.  Check out the video at the link and hear what he said in his own words because if you depend on the media to tell you what he said, you probably won’t hear anything like the words he actually used.  Or if they do quote any of his words accurately, they won’t be in the right order:

 -------------------------------

When will President Trump realize that he’s personally responsible for inciting violence when he uses shocking, reckless rhetoric, like saying about his political opponents that “you have to be ready to throw a punch”?

https://www.westernjournal.com/nancy-pelosi-tells-democrats-ready-throw-punch-children/

Oh, wait: Trump didn’t say that.  Turns out Nancy Pelosi said it Friday at the DNC’s summer meeting.  But she added that you have to be ready to throw a punch “for the children.”  So that’s okay then, as long as you’re breaking the nose of someone who disagrees with your politics “for the children.”
