Comedian and Trump nemesis Rosie O’Donnell could find herself in hot water over allegedly making illegal campaign contributions to at least five Democratic national candidates. She gave a combined $5400 beyond the legal limits, but she claims it was “nothing nefarious” and she didn’t know there were limits (individuals may donate to as many campaigns as they like, but only $2700 for each primary, run-off and general election race). O’Donnell says she donated money through the liberal fundraising site ActBlue, assuming they would refund any overages. For the record, it’s never a good idea to rely on any website run by liberal activists to tell you when they’ve taken too much of somebody else’s money. It’s what they live for.

O’Donnell’s protestations of innocence are meeting with some skepticism, with critics noting that if she wasn’t trying to evade the laws, then why did she donate under four slightly different variations of her name and five different addresses? Also, she has a history of disregarding campaign finance laws, such as tweeting an offer of $2 million each to Senators Susan Collins and Jeff Flake to try to bribe them to vote against the GOP tax cut bill.

Usually, this is the kind of infraction that barely earns a tap on the wrist, but conservative author Dinesh D’Sousa is calling for O’Donnell to be prosecuted just as harshly as he was. He was accused of encouraging an associate to donate to a friend’s Senate campaign, then reimbursing them. Coincidentally, this was just after he’d released a documentary critical of Obama. Also coincidentally, he had the book thrown at him and was fined $30,000, sentenced to eight months in a halfway house followed by five years’ probation, and he’ll be branded as a felon for the rest of his life. He says that O’Donnell broke five campaign donation laws, which is five times worse than what he was accused of, so why should she be allowed to skate?

But I have a solution that I think is better, and Rosie may be surprised to hear that it doesn’t involve sending her to jail. How about if we let her off with a warning, and make the government refund D’Sousa’s fine with interest, apologize and clear his record? Then we could all agree that since we live in a free country, citizens who have strong enough beliefs about some public policy should be allowed to give as much of their own hard-earned money to promote that belief as they want. Free speech! (In elections, where paid advertising is essential, money is speech.)

Why is there an arbitrary limit of $2700, and who decided that was the magic number anyway? Why not just let everyone give as much as they want, but with all donations on the public record? You could offer a politician your entire life savings if you’re that passionate (or dumb)…but he would be under pressure to refuse it for fear of appearing to be selling himself to the highest bidder. Call it “big checks and balances.”

This story could be one of those “teachable moments” that could be used to teach so many things. Like teaching children what “equal justice under the law” means. Or teaching liberals that there really are too many federal laws, so many that we all break them without even knowing it. That's why we need to prevent out-of-control, politically-motivated prosecutors from railroading citizens they disagree with into jail for inadvertently violating one. Granted, that’s probably not a lesson Rosie O’Donnell wants to hear right now, but it could keep her out of the Big House.

I agree with the penalty suggested for Rosie, but lets add another stipulation. Rosie must leave the United States immediately after sentencing and renounce her US citizenship if applicable, never ever to return. This would allow Rosie to live up to one promise, unlike our President Donald J Trump who lives up to all his campaign promises to the best of his ability.

I am tired of hearing how Rosie O'Donnell appears to think that she can do what ever she wants by changing the truth the enable her. Over this latest action she needs to go to prison like any her women who so not have her income to fight for themselves. She is not setting an good example for our children, or for the many Americans that are out of work. Lock her up I say.
    Thanks for listening.

first of all, she's Rosie, second she is a nut job liberal. Thrid, she lost all credibility years ago. So my assumption is "Liar, Liar, pants on fire!"

Dear Sir, I am a grandma and have a large family. I am wondering when you all will get together and get the President to STOP Chem-trails. I have heard that Bill Gates and other 'givers' are responsible for this. He also should NOT have any power to get the world vaccinated. We have three in our family damaged by vaccines, one in each generation!
So does that mean if I had enough money I can do anything in our skies without recompense. WE THE PEOPLE DO NOT WANT THIS. THEY ARE JUST WAKING UP TO IT BUT i FEAR IT IS TOO LATE FOR OUR HEALTH. It is killing us and our children.
I understand it all goes together with the thing of the tribulation, but we ARE supposed to do the right thing according to God while we can....Right?? Love you and all you do! Governor, thank you for shedding intelligent light on this issue. No other source I have read has explained that she did this under different names and addresses. I have served as Treasurer for a candidate running for public office and know that there is responsibility to ensure donors do not exceed campaign limits. However, she must be prosecuted because her actions are inexcusable. Could someone please wake up a federal prosecutor and ask them to do their job?

I'm willing to place a small wager ($1.00) that the infamous Rosie will walk. The DOJ has been liberal for so long that it seems like they are an independent group who can defy the laws of the land with impunity.

As if the politicians did not have enough to quarrel over, like a bunch of 5-year-olds, they are trading sass over who should attend John McCain's funeral, and he is not yet deceased! Cannot figure how so many of those goons got enough votes to get to Washington!

Rosie had to know it was illegal or she would not have used different names and addresses. The problem is she is hollywood and nothing will ever happen to her. It is si disheartening to see these people get away with so much because if star status.

Let’s see. Will Rosie be prosecuted? Hmmm. What factors are at play here?

    1. She’s a liberal.
    2. She gave money to liberal candidates.

    I predict:

    1. No news mentions.
    2. No charges.
    3 No problem!

Liberals need to be held accountable for there actions. If a police officer pulls me over for breaking a traffic law, doesn't matter if I knew about the law or not, I still get a ticket at the least. Go after her!!! Other thoughts:: Special Counsel needs a deadline, they have spent more than enough money, etc. June 30, 2018 sounds good to me. They need to crap or get off the pot. P. Trump needs an Executive Order that states any bill that comes to his desk for signing into law cannot be no more than 100 pages (maybe 200) or it is a automatic veto (line item control). Don't know if this is legal but the DOJ would know.

She's obviously gone to some extreme efforts to break the law. This demonstrates criminal intent, yet she's playing dumb? She needs to be prosecuted in federal court, by a judge outside of any west coast district. Any west coast, swamp rat, Obama planted, federal judge, would just let her walk. Rich democrat = not guilty. If she walks, it will add more fuel to the fire. If justice doesn't happen soon, we could be headed for a civil war. Deplorable does not mean stupid, it only means they don't like us. They may finally cause the anger they're looking for. The bad mouthing hate they spew may come back at them 10 fold.

You're being too generous to call that mouthpiece "comedian." A lot of more appropriate nouns come to mind such as skank, etc. It's about time somebody holds a few demoKKKrat feet to the fire for their abuse, and neglect of legal procedures, or God given rights and freedom. Thank God for Trump, and the make America great again prospect, that Obama destroyed.

Mike, There is a segment of our society that believe the laws are written for plain common people, anyone but them.
She should receive no different treatment than anyone else, but I suspect she will.

I have to disagree with you Huck. Rosie should get the book thrown at her. She is one of the loudest cry babies out there, so she would be a good example. As far as D'Sousa, I do agree with that part. Thx Mike as always.

If Rosie didn't know there were limits on contributions why did she assume they would return any overages? Duh!
