Last week, investigative reporter John Solomon revealed that the mysterious “black ledger” purported to show cash payments originating in Ukraine to then-campaign director Paul Manafort, who now rots in jail, was almost certainly a forgery, as multiple sources emphatically maintain that no cash payments were ever made. On Sunday, during a wide-ranging interview with Maria Bartiromo on SUNDAY MORNING FUTURES, Trump attorney Rudy Guiliani offered evidence highly suggestive that the Democratic National Committee was involved in targeting Manafort.
He brought in a memo from Alexandra Chalupa of the DNC to her boss dated May 3, 2016, and reading in part, “I invited Michael Isikoff [of THE NEW YORK TIMES], whom I’ve been working with for the past few weeks, and connected him to the Ukrainians to talk about Paul Manafort.”

Democratic Presidential Race Updates

One of the many commercials Mike Bloomberg is blowing his billions on blames President Trump for breaking his promise to cut spending. Meanwhile, on Sunday, Trump released a proposed budget that would cut $4.4 trillion in spending over the next 10 years, and it was immediately declared “dead on arrival” in the Democratic House, which is where budgets are written, except in years when Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats are in charge and never get around to writing one at all.
Bloomberg also managed the neat trick of managing to insult and infuriate both Midwestern Trump supporters and transgender activists with the same clueless, arrogant comment. At least give him points for efficiency.
Credit where credit is due: Rolling Stone makes the good point that Pete Buttigieg has called for doing away with the Electoral College because the popular vote should reign supreme, then he declared victory in Iowa despite Bernie Sanders winning the popular vote.
Joe Biden is sort of like a verbal slot machine. Pull the handle and you never know what unprecedented combination of words might drop out of his mouth. Lately, he’s been dispensing some oddly hostile insults to voters at campaign stops, but Sunday in New Hampshire, he may have set a new record. A woman asked how voters can trust that he can turn his campaign around. He asked if she’d ever been in a caucus, and when she said yes, he replied, “No, you haven’t. You’re a lying, dog-faced pony soldier.” May I just reply: "Whaaaaa...?!?"
I seldom say this, but kudos to Slate.com for doing the thankless detective work of trying to track down the origins of that particular bowl of Joe Biden word salad.

The staff of Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas deserve a Huck’s Hero salute for what they did for a genuine American hero, Marine veteran William Preston Moore. Moore had waged a long battle against two different attacks of medulloblastom, a rare form of cancer. After suffering through multiple brain surgeries and a bone marrow transplant, his immune system was weak, and he was stricken with pneumonia. His wife Sarah realized the end was here, so she turned to the hospital staffers who had worked so hard to save him and asked them for one last request.

The House Democratic impeachment managers are proving to be just as bad at dealing with reality as some Hollywood celebrities are. During a Friday appearance on CNN, they declared that just because the Senate acquitted President Trump, he hadn’t really been acquitted. And because he didn’t admit wrongdoing or suffer consequences (two things that usually don’t happen when someone is acquitted), he wasn’t really “exonerated.”
Yes, I know this is annoying, but it’s also entirely predictable. Remember, these are the same people who’ve been insisting for three years that Trump didn’t really win the 2016 election, that he’s not the legitimate President (and certainly “not THEIR President”), and that the Mueller report didn’t exonerate him (fun fact: prosecutors don’t “exonerate” anyone; they look for evidence of a crime and then decide whether to charge or not; and Mueller found no evidence of any collusion with Russia, so there were no charges; and without charges, there can be no “exoneration” on the charges.)
I suppose we could play their game and point out that since an impeachment inquiry must be launched by the House, not just the Speaker; the inquiry lacked due process; the vote was purely partisan; and the “articles” cited no high crimes or misdemeanors, then they’re right. Trump couldn’t be “acquitted” because he was never legitimately “impeached” in the first place.
It must be fun going around creating your own reality, but the Democrats are living proof that it’s ultimately frustrating and leads to madness when your self-delusions start colliding too hard with actual reality.
