Republicans in Alabama voted their consciences Tuesday, and the result is that, for the first time in 25 years, Alabama has a Democrat in a Republican Senate seat that should have been the safest safe space this side of UC-Berkeley.

Despite the crowing from the media and the national party, this doesn’t represent any great realignment or rising wave support for liberal policies in Alabama. If Luther Strange or Mo Brooks had been the candidate, this would’ve been a rubber-stamp footnote of a story. Instead, it represented a “bridge too far” uneasiness with a particular candidate that caused many Republicans to stay home and just enough (nearly 23,000, or 1.7% of the vote) to write in a different candidate, and hand a squeaker victory to Doug Jones over Roy Moore by 49.9% to 48.4%. Even with an Obama-level turnout of black voters for Jones in urban areas, he was unable to top 50% and would have lost handily if so many Republicans hadn’t rejected their own candidate and stayed home.

Uranium One update

By Mike Huckabee

So many revelations came out this past week involving the investigations of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump’s campaign that one important piece of news got lost in the shuffle.  During a Congressional hearing Wednesday into the Uranium One issue, in which the Obama Administration agreed to let one-fifth of the US uranium supply be sold to a Russian company, current Nuclear Regulatory Commission chairwoman Kristine Svinicki revealed that her predecessor hadn’t been straightforward in replying to Congressional concerns in 2011 about Russia possibly exporting our uranium to nations that would threaten us with it.  He assured Congress it was no big deal because they didn’t have an export license.  Which is sort of like thinking that a criminal won’t rob a liquor store if you deny him a gun permit.

To put it in movie terms, “License?  They don’t need no stinkin’ license!”

First Lady's popularity is rising

By Mike Huckabee

A new Gallup poll found that First Lady Melania Trump’s favorability rating has climbed 17 points since the Inauguration and is now at 54%.  The fact that it isn’t 100% is testament to the bias of the media and the absolutely mindless hostility of the diehard Never-Trumpers.  Okay, we get it: you’re still having an emotional meltdown because Hillary lost the election.  But why are you taking it out on the family of the man who beat her?

Melania Trump is a kind, beautiful, gracious woman who was very successful on her own before she even met Donald.  She’s sharp as a tack and speaks five languages.  She’s a great example of an immigrant who came to the US, earned success, and pays it back over and over again in her charity work.  She’s even incredibly fashionable and looks stunning, which isn’t supposed to matter but really is a lot more important than being kind and charitable to many New York and L.A. media people.  If she were a liberal with a different last name, she’d be on the cover of every women’s magazine and worshiped like Princess Di. Yet it’s big news that her approval rating is all the way up to 54%?  Since the negative attacks haven’t let up, I have to assume it’s just due to Americans gradually figuring out on their own, like the kids who met her at the Houston shelters or the White House Christmas tour, that the nasty things the media say about her have no basis in reality.

This should make us all ask two questions:  Why are people who claim to be more tolerant than thou and  opposed to bullying so filled with unwarranted hatred toward someone who’s done nothing to deserve it?  And if someone as admirable as her can have her approval rating knocked down so low by a constant media drumbeat of negativism, why should we listen when they point to her husband’s low approval rating as proof that his Administration is failing?

Stop shaming the experts

By Mike Huckabee

Teenagers (and a lot of adults who should know better) refuse to listen to the handful of brave doctors who warn that it’s child abuse to subject kids to surgery and dangerous chemicals just because they think they’re a different gender.  There are all sorts of underlying psychological problems and passing physical or personal issues that could be the cause.  We might be inflicting permanent damage on kids in response to a temporary problem.  But it’s not PC to question anything with the word “transgender” attached, so even medical experts are shamed and shouted down if they dare question the narrative.

Call in the Marines

By Mike Huckabee

A big holiday Huck’s Hero salute to Marine 1st Lt. John Dixon, stationed in Okinawa, Japan.  When the Japanese police needed help rescuing five people who were caught in a riptide and about to drown, they knew just what to do: Call the Marines!  Or in this case, call just one Marine, to save all five.  And that he did, while the cops were calling for backup.

Your new TBN Show, "Huckabee", is absolutely amazing! My wife and I are in awe of how you explain our country's political situations in a manner that non-political folks can understand. Also, the respect you treat everyone with is appreciated by my family. If you haven't tuned into Governor Huckabee's new show, you're missing out!!!

I read your perspective about Melania Trump. To be honest, I have not seen this viciousness towards her that you discuss. But, what comment did you have when Michelle Obama was called "the great ape" by several Republican office holders. Your apparent disdain for First Lady attacks seems quite selective. When you look at the vicious hate-filled remarks, any against Mrs. Trump (against whom I hold no animosity) pales in comparison with what was said - by leading Republican mouthpieces - against Mrs. Obama (I have many of them saved if you doubt me). I guess in your eyes it is better to be a "good immigrant" than a Black American female.

Mike, I hope that you will consider doing a TV show again. We loved your program and never missed it. It was informative but still positive; unlike so many of the other programs these days. Thank you for all that you do and we hope to see you on TV again soon.
