“I think it’s very important that we show the world that America cares,” said Melania Trump, speaking while in Africa for last week’s ABC “20/20” profile, “Being Melania: The First Lady.” She continued: “And that this administration cares. And I care. When other people have more opportunities, then the world is more free.” (Well, actually, she said “more freer,” but I cut her some slack, not only because English is her fifth language but also because she was right.)

Melania was treated mostly decently this time, as the object of the show was very obviously to contrast her thoughtfulness and compassion with Trump’s seeming lack of same and, in doing so, make the President look as bad as they possibly could. Still, in general, from the moment Donald Trump announced his candidacy for President, Melania has been treated shabbily by the media, most pointedly by the fashion world. Though I don’t spend much time with “women’s” magazines, I see them at the hair salon often enough to know what’s going on with the fashion industry. At a time when magazines are struggling to stay alive, those publishers insist on trafficking in liberal politics so often that I and approximately half of the potential market can hardly stomach them.

Your Monday Dose of Fake News:

By Mike Huckabee

No, despite the hysterical reporting from numerous media outlets last week, President Trump did not praise Southern Gen. Robert E. Lee as “incredible” and by implication, endorse the Confederacy.  He said Lee was a “great general” (which everyone who ever took a real American history course knows is true: Lincoln had wanted him to command the Union forces, but he was loyal to Virginia; and he kept the Union on its heels for a long time with far fewer, poorly-equipped troops).  But Trump went on (the part of the video the media cut out) to say that Lincoln had a lot of West Point-trained generals who couldn’t beat him until he found Ulysses S. Grant, who drank too much and had other problems, but was an “incredible” general who knew how to win.

Trump might have been a little fast and loose with historical facts, but the point of his story wasn’t to praise the Confederacy, it was to point out that having an establishment pedigree doesn’t mean you necessary know how to do something.  Just like having a journalism degree no longer means that you know what journalism is.

But say, do you know which President really did praise Robert E. Lee as “one of our greatest American gentlemen”?

Today’s Must-Read:

By Mike Huckabee

An article about a certain web giant that’s systemically purging and silencing conservative news outlets.  I won’t use their name because I don’t want to get purged myself, but you’ll find it at the link. And remember, just in case I do disappear suddenly one day, you can always find my commentaries at MikeHuckabee.com, my independently-owned website.  It’s the way things used to be before social media swallowed up all the bloggers, and I urge all conservatives to return to that model. Good news for the news media:

By Mike Huckabee

We’ve finally found somebody more biased than they are.  The latest Media Research Center study found that media coverage of President Trump is currently running at 92% negative.  But they’re practically bipartisan compared to Hollywood.

A Hollywood Reporter analysis of 2018 political donation records shows that 99.7% of donations from top movie and TV executives and celebrities went to Democrats or liberal groups. As one GOP consultant put it, celebrities are predicable: “They don’t just preach to the choir, they kind of rant to the choir.”

Still, the 0.3% of Hollywood donations to Republicans does include $5000 to Maine Sen. Susan Collins from a surprising donor.  I’ll bet the money was given before she stood up for the rule of law and presumption of innocence on behalf of Brett Kavanaugh. I wonder if he'll demand a refund for that apostasy.

Women's rights gets moved to the back of the line

By Mike Huckabee

In case women really needed another reminder of this: when you let the identity politics left take over, women’s rights get moved to the end of the line.  Latest example:

Meet Rachel McKinnon, a biological male who identifies as a transgender woman and who just won the gold in the 35-39 age bracket in 2018 UCI Masters Track Cycling World Championships in Los Angeles.  McKinnon beat Carolien Van Herrikhuyzen of the Netherlands and American cyclist Jennifer Wagner, who are biological women, or as they used to be known, “women.”

https://www.westernjournal.com/biological-male-womens-cycling/

As in many other women’s sports, it doesn’t sit too well with women who’ve spent years training to win the gold to be beaten by biological males who are allowed to compete against them because they “identify as women.”  I bet there were would be many more who would protest the blatant unfairness of it if they weren’t afraid of being branded as transphobes by the Twitter mobs.  (I don’t even care if they get upset when I call them a “mob.”)

McKinnon, however, has no patience with the argument that just because you’re naturally endowed with male strength and stamina, that should keep you from competing against females, because sports isn’t about performance (note: it is 100% about performance), it’s about “human rights.”

McKinnon told USA Today, “We cannot have a woman legally recognized as a trans woman in society and not be recognized that way in sports… Focusing on performance advantage is largely irrelevant because this is a rights issue. We shouldn’t be worried about trans people taking over the Olympics. We should be worried about their fairness and human rights instead.”

McKinnon also compared transgender rights in sports to racial discrimination, an apples-and-oranges argument that’s never gone over too well with African-Americans, but that’s another issue.  Let’s concentrate on the claim that blocking biological men who identify as women from competing against women in sports is oppression.  If sports are all about "human rights," then why should only men who identify as women be allowed to compete against women?  Isn’t that oppression against men who identify as men?  If you’re going to blur the gender lines that much, how can you defend segregating the sexes at all?

Let’s make female swimmers, runners and wrestlers compete against men at the Olympics.  Female tennis players can play against Roger Federer, and female boxers can get in the ring with male fighters such as Anthony Joshua or Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder.  Sure, it would probably spell the end of women’s sports, and a few women boxers might die in the ring, but isn’t that a small price to pay to keep transgender athletes from feeling oppressed?

Women who vote for this sort of social justice warrior insanity should realize that when they pull that "D" lever in the polls, they are flushing their own rights down the toilet.  This denial of reality not only oppresses women, it oppresses common sense.

Incidentally, if you think I’m exaggerating, let me remind you of this:

First let me say I am a 76 year old Canadian conservative and have been all me life. I have tried to apply the principles taught by my parents to my whole life, including business. This was very simple - You need Financial Responsibility.- Show respect to all even though they may have differing views.- compromise when ever you can- look for a win/win solution ( A win/lose does not last). We currently have a Liberal Government and there is lots that they do that I disagree with, but I still respect them.

Over the years through Business and Travelling we have developed a lot of friends in USA. My Major concern is now that you have a booming economy how do you survive when it appears that Love has been somewhat replaced by hatred and there has to be winners and losers.

That's all you see on Social Media and Television. You seem to be fading away from a country that use to pride its self on Human Rights and Fairness. It will be a Tremendous challenge to get back to that and I wish you all the best

The transgender males, who have not had any hormone therapy, still have too much testosterone. I guess they could have taken stilbesterone to suppress the testosterone. But, if they choose to compete, they should have hormone levels identical to biological females. Otherwise, they are just men competing against women, using an unfair, testosterone fueled, advantage.
