I’m disgusted with a small and selfish group of Republicans who probably feel they are “Spartacus” but the movie best fitting them is “The Gang Who Couldn’t Shoot Straight.”

Several of these hold-outs (I should say “hold-ups”) are friends and I supported and campaigned for many.  I won’t be in the future.  The simple of rule of politics is that you take your stand, but if you don’t have enough following to lead, then recognize that you simply didn’t sell your ideas very well.  Less than 20 GOP members of Congress are stopping 200 of their fellow Republicans from getting about the business of investigating corruption in the White House, FBI, DOJ, and in Congress itself.  Instead, without being able to articulate a specific reason for their objections, they have blocked the election of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker and in so doing making the Republicans look like a bunch of 6 year olds who refuse to play unless the majority surrenders to the tantrums of the few.

Is Kevin McCarthy perfect?  Of course not.  But he has faithfully worked to recruit candidates, help fund them, and get them elected.  The ultimate outrage is that some he helped win and raised funds for now have shown they really DO think it’s about them and not the bigger principles of the conservative movement.

Dr. E. V. Hill, longtime CA pastor used to say “If you think you’re a leader and you look behind you and no one is following, you aren’t a leader—you’re just out for a walk.”  The actions of the petulant circle of “Never-Kevins” don’t amount to enough votes to get close to winning.  But they may have enough to make sure their own team loses.  These guys are setting fire to their own hosue, but they are arsonists who didn’t even have fire insurance.  The mission is just “burn it down.”  And in so doing, empowering the very Democrats some of us worked very hard to put in the minority.

We did NOT work to blow up our own opportunity to take on the Pelosi, Schiff, Nadler, and Squad team, but that’s the effect of the actions of the camera hungry Congress members who may deep down believe they are more “principled” than everyone else, but have shown a startling level of political immaturity.

If the tiny crowd of political tots can’t convince a majority of their peers to follow them off the cliff, they should have the self-awareness to admit they fired their best shot and simply missed the target.  Now it’s time to fight for the American people.  If after taking leadership, Kevin and company don’t deliver, you might be able to make a better case for lighting the fuse to the bomb to blow up the place.

I disagree with you about the "tots" who defied California Republican "darling" McCarthy. They deserve more respect in my view than for you to name call them. Many in the pro-life, conservative, fund the border patrol, stop gross immigration, side of the GOP, are applauding their courage for calling out the carnal, back biting, back room dealing, corrupt Omnibus-Bill-pork-loving sell-out side.

I am kind of shocked at your recent comment which reads, "I’m disgusted with a small and selfish group of Republicans who probably feel they are “Spartacus” but the movie best fitting them is “The Gang Who Couldn’t Shoot Straight.” You had better remember why Donald Trump was elected President, because the Republican voters were disgusted and fed up with voting for Republicans who, once they were in power, rolled over to slow walk Democrat policies. You had better do a better job of explaining yourself, or you will start to look like a Republican establishment supporter and you will lose all credibility with Republican voters. I'm not sure what Matt Gaetz' points were, but I only heard something about not letting Republicans continue to support huge Democrat spending bills. This kind of makes Matt sound like a hero to Republican voters. So why are you so disgusted and why are you hurling insults at a man who is finally fighting for what sounds like conservative values? I think you owe Matt and all the others an apology. And you owe all the rest of us an explanation.

I disagree on Mccarthy Gov.. He should've stepped aside. He's sided with the Democrat s and hurt me and my fellow Americans many times. I don't see him helping anyone but him and his cronies.

I was VERY thrilled with those who pushed back against McCarthy for House Speaker as he has shown himself to be a swamp dwelling RINO. I would have been fine if it had lasted longer as at least the representatives were actually DISCUSSING an issue instead of talking to an empty room. There were other I thought who would have done a better job as leader, but in the end, McCarthy was voted in, BUT not without making some concessions that will make a positive change in how the House is run!

I wanted Kevin McCarthy elected because he promised to investigate that boob Merrick Garland. I hope he follows through.

I totally agree with you regarding Biden’s visit to the visit. But I don’t agree with you in regards to the 20 in congress who fought for conservative values the best way they could … withholding votes until there were concessions they deemed essential. I’m proud of them and thank them that McCarthy’s feet will be held to the fire which perhaps will be a step toward saving us from Marxism, liberal Democrats and Republicans. Wait and see! You may end up thanking God these courageous ones stood for us, the people.

I'm curious if your thoughts about this may have changed in light of the changes brought about in House Rules that were pushed through by this small group of Republicans.

When you wrote this on January 4th, much less was known about motives. At least much less known by me. What I've learned since then has made me re-think this article.

    Sure do appreciate your newsletters!

I can understand how you might feel about some Republicans, wanting a change in procedures and other aspects of doing business there. My feeling is at 80+ years old I’ve seen too much dog and pony show in both political parties they promise you that they will do blah blah blah blah And guess what they never follow through on the blah blah. Then come election time please vote for me. I did this blah blah. Here in Indianapolis where I live Andre Carson quote represents us” I’m still trying to find out what he’s doing for us here. His website sucks you send him an email and if it’s not in the correct form, you will get a phone call from some female office staff member telling you you don’t know what you’re doing. Maybe with some of these changes, some of the dog and pony show will go away , you can cross your fingers that people might be held accountable for their actions. I’ll bet you a dollar to a hole in a donut it’ll never happen I do read your newsletters completely thank you in advance.

I'm disappointed in you, Mr Huckabee. You're almost always insightful. McCarthy may be a good speaker, but he's still old-guard establishment in my view.

I am surprised that you object to McCarthy being required to earn the support of Republican Congressmen. This is the way the system should work. Establishment Republicans failed to deliver the promised Red Wave. The Republican "holdouts" faithfully represented their constituents!
