The Olympic gymnast who was expected to dominate the Tokyo Games pulled out of all team events and has now dropped out of individual events as well and will not defend her title.

Without her, the US women’s gym team lost the gold for the first time in 13 years, coming in second to Russia.

Ms Biles explained that she was not physically injured, but was feeling too emotionally shaky to go on. She said, “Once I came out here (to compete), I was like, ‘No, mental is not there so I just need to let the girls do it and focus on myself.’”

Her last-minute withdrawal drew harsh criticism from some analysts, who accused her of being self-centered and said if she couldn’t compete, she should have let someone else take her place rather than leaving her team in the lurch. Kylee Zempel at the Federalist took that view.

Others took Biles’ side, noting that she had been one of former team doctor Larry Nassar’s sexual assault victims, and people shouldn’t judge her if they don’t know what she’s going through.

One of the best commentaries was from radio host Mark Davis, who didn’t rebuke Ms Biles but considered what this says about how attitudes have softened and how the value of exhibiting mental toughness when the going gets tough is slipping away.

As for me, I will pray for Ms Biles to achieve her peace, and also root for the US Women’s Team to call on their mental toughness to succeed without her.

    Well said, as always.
I as surprised that she waited until she got there to withdraw from the competition. Did anything happen there????

It was a bit late that Ms Biles decided towithdraw from the Olympic Games.
Like this nobody had the time to take her place.
Was that the purpose? In theses woke days, you nevr know.

Mike I read that the Olympic “0fficials” changed the rules. They said they did not want any athlete to injure herself trying to be as good as Simone so they made the requirements easier! I will try to find this and send it to you. There’s more to this than is being reported by the sorry main stream media!!!

Bless her heart. Her health is much more important than a medal.

I am no psychologist, but I believe that any personal demons an individual battles can unexpectedly jump up and debilitate them physically, mentally and emotionally, at any time. None of us have any idea what demon Simone Biles is fighting. She does need to take care if herself and she needs support, encouragement and prayers to deal with her current situation.
    Wishing her all the best.

God Bless this girl for all she has given us—- if our team does not place higher because of her loss, they are all competitors and understand her more that we can.

I can't imagine the pressure that has been placed on this young woman. From the time she was @ 10 it was impressed on her that she had to exhibit America's greatness through her skills at gymnastics. The constant pressure to win and keep winning to say nothing of the pain incurred in constant training! I suspect she just had an Atlas Shrugged moment and realized life might go on, that time takes its toll, and she probably would not always be able to fly as she once could.

It is too bad Ms Biles waited til the last minute to have these feelings. I guess it shows her teammates that they should place their confidence in themselves and not rely on team members to pull you through. Praying for those involved to not let disappointments prevent them from doing their best! Good luck.

What kind of feminists are we raising these day? And we’re going to draft these modern day feminists. What a prima-donna.

Biles put herself out there. She was here and there making lots of commercials and money. Then when it came down to it she knew she had put herself in a bide and if she done poorly people would talk. She is 24 yrs old and her 2nd time around and many other contest so I don't know why this was any different. I think she knew the Russians had her beat. Sorry for her and hope she does well in life. Time for her to move on as an adult.
