DAILY BIBLE VERSE

13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

John 15:13

Well, here’s something you don’t see every day, Chauncey

The major and the entire city council of East Hanover, New Jersey, just switched from Democrat to Republican all at once.

https://redstate.com/mike_miller/2023/02/09/veteran-mayor-and-entire-new-jersey-township-council-switch-parties-from-democrat-to-republican-n700985

The mayor said all their decisions are about putting East Hanover first, and nastiness, rhetoric and social media vitriol are filtering down and infiltrating local governments. He said, “Municipal leaders have a responsibility to best represent their constituents, and it is our belief this change of party is in the best interest of the community.”

Or as a very wise political leader once said, it’s no longer a question of right vs. left, it’s a question of normal vs. crazy. Who was it who said that again?

Senator Fetterman is hospitalized

Freshman Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman was hospitalized Wednesday after experiencing lightheadedness at a Senate Democratic retreat.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/sen-john-fetterman-hospitalized-feeling-lightheaded-senate-democratic-retreat

He’s reportedly in good spirits, talking to family and staff, and doctors say it doesn’t appear to be related to his previous stroke. But frankly, I don’t know whether to believe that. Doctors warned the Party that someone with his health conditions needed to be recovering, not enduring a high-stress political campaign and a Senate job that he was clearly unprepared for. But party leaders and even some people in Fetterman’s inner circle valued grabbing that Senate seat over protecting his health and finding another candidate. I said shame on them then, and now, I’m genuinely worried that we’re starting to see the human toll from their lust for power.

Putting all political differences aside, I urge you to pray for Sen. Fetterman’s full recovery. He obviously needs more people who care about his health.

Surprise announcement

In a surprise announcement, Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe has been put on a few weeks of paid leave by the undercover news organization’s board.

https://townhall.com/tipsheet/juliorosas/2023/02/09/project-veritas-issues-statement-amid-reports-of-james-okeefe-being-ousted-n2619374

While the reason for it was not disclosed, various sources claim that some employees complained of O’Keefe’s tyrannical management style, and that he bullies and berates them. Frankly, I find it hard to believe that he actually runs Project Veritas as if it’s “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” but I have no idea. I do know that PV just released its biggest bombshell ever, the Pfizer expose, and a lot of liberal media outlets are desperately trying to either ignore it or defame the source, so I am taking all the stories about his alleged wrongdoings with a grain of salt until we know more.

Twitchy.com reports that according to an anonymous whistleblower, there’s a possible alternate version of this story involving an attempted hostile takeover of PV by certain elements of the board. Details here, and I warn you, this is unverified.

https://twitchy.com/samj-3930/2023/02/09/hostile-takeover-if-thread-from-whistleblower-about-james-okeefe-project-veritas-is-true-wow

In the meantime, to bring you up to speed on what Project Veritas does and why I think it’s so vital that its work continue, here’s my interview with James O’Keefe from last weekend’s “Huckabee” on TBN.

Reparations in the name of "justice"

A number of Democrat-run cities are debating paying slavery reparations to black residents, with the most generous, of course, being San Francisco, where the uber-liberal leaders think that $5 million sounds like a reasonable amount to pay people who never were slaves in a state that never allowed slavery, paid for by taxpayers who never owned slaves, all in the name of “justice.”

But Matt Lamb at the Washington Examiner reports that it’s not so simple to right the wrongs of history by giving away free money. The city of Evanston, Illinois, launched a reparations program for victims of housing discrimination between 1919 and 1969 and their descendants. It’s turned into a confusing, underfunded nightmare, and it only pays a limited number of people $25,000 each.

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/restoring-america/fairness-justice/reparations-flopped-in-this-city-do-democrats-still-think-theyre-a-good-idea

Determining who qualifies became a major headache. Some residents rejected it, claiming it’s not nearly enough money. Others are afraid to take it because it’s just enough money to disqualify them for state aid programs that they’re already on. Meanwhile, it was supposed to be paid for by a tax on legal cannabis, but that didn’t work out as expected, so they’re having to take the money out of other needed city funds.

(And if you think a cannabis tax couldn’t possibly fail in California, check this out. Leftist policies and taxes can destroy any business, even selling pot named after Jerry Garcia in San Francisco!)

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/jerry-garcia-marijuana-brand-pulls-013311260.html

Lamb writes that the functional flaw in any reparations program is that no matter how much money it gives away, someone will always complain that it’s not enough or that they’re left out. This is why it’s better for cities and states to address the wrongs of the past by looking to the future and making sure they aren’t repeated, not trying to undo history with “free money” and new government programs.

It all goes to show that both running cities and rewriting history are very complicated jobs. They should only be entrusted to smart people. And on that note, Kurt Schlichter has a reparations proposal a lot of us can get behind: the stupid people who have ruined our cities and country should have to pay reparations to the rest of us for the damage they’ve caused.

Disney's hard lesson

Disney continues to be taught the lesson of “Get woke, go broke” the hard way, with 7,000 jobs about to be slashed in an attempt to cut costs by $5.5 billion…

https://redstate.com/bobhoge/2023/02/09/mouse-house-loses-the-magic-disney-ceo-bob-iger-slashes-7000-jobs-in-bid-to-cut-costs-by-5-5-billion-n700905

The layoffs and restructuring may have been forced by a proxy war by trust fund manager Nelson Pelz, who called off his battle to get onto Disney’s board and force changes after CEO Bob Iger announced the layoffs and restructuring…

https://nypost.com/2023/02/09/nelson-peltz-says-disney-proxy-fight-over-after-iger-unveils-restructuring-plans/

It also can’t help Disney’s image that they just caved to Beijing on censoring “The Simpsons” for telling the truth about Chinese forced labor camps…

https://www.breitbart.com/news/disney-cuts-simpsons-forced-labor-episode-in-hong-kong/

Plus, the details have just been released on how Disney is about to lose its longtime control of the area where its theme parks are located to the government, the price of the corporation wading into politics to attack the new parental protection law and misrepresent it as the “Don’t Say Gay” law.

https://www.breitbart.com/entertainment/2023/02/08/ron-desantis-is-about-to-end-disneys-unprecedented-power-over-the-magic-kingdom/

Time will tell whether all this signals a real turnaround at Disney. It’s a good sign that they’re bringing back conservative Tim Allen to voice Buzz Lightyear in a new “Toy Story” movie.

https://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/films/1732722/Tim-Allen-Buzz-Lightyear-movie-Toy-Story-5

But if you think cutting 7,000 jobs is bad, Stephen Green of PJ Media notes that they’ve already “laid off” 2.4 million subscribers of Disney Plus because they refuse to fire the employees who’ve caused all this: the radical activists who keep spending them into bankruptcy by producing “woke” shows full of anti-American, racial and LGBTQ propaganda that’s unfit for children and that nobody wants to see.

https://pjmedia.com/vodkapundit/2023/02/09/disney-actually-just-laid-off-2-4-million-people-including-me-n1669278

I dearly hope that Disney has learned its lesson and will return to creating wholesome, non-political family entertainment. But they get rid of all the Mickey Mouse revolutionaries in the company, I fear that this may be like the famous warning from the movie, “Citizen Kane”:

“You're the greatest fool I've ever known, Kane. If it was anybody else, I'd say what's going to happen to you would be a lesson to you. Only you're going to need more than one lesson. And you're going to get more than one lesson."

The State of the Union speech was this bad…

How bad was President Biden’s State of the Union speech? It inspired Stephen Kruiser of PJ Media to write a serious argument for doing away with State of the Union Addresses entirely.

https://pjmedia.com/columns/stephen-kruiser/2023/02/08/the-morning-briefing-hear-me-out-lets-scrap-the-state-of-the-union-address-n1668735

Another good idea at that link: check out the video from Zimbabwe of grandmothers who volunteer to stake out park benches and offer a sympathetic ear and advice to anyone who needs it.
